This was a good story but to be honest I had some problems rating it. I gave it 3 stars but since I'm not typically in to reading about Dommes (I had to read something "out of my comfort zone" for a challenge) I wondered if I rated too harshly. Maybe I should have gone with 4 stars but I had to go with what felt right for me...others might feel it should have been higher.
Montana is a Domme who owns a bull breeding ranch. She used to ba married to a rodeo cowboy (who was her sub) but he cheated on her (frequently) and she dumped him when she couldn't deal with his infidelity any more. Now she's joining a BDSM club local to her but only wants temporary subs and isn't looking for an emotional connection that may get her hurt.
Clint is the manager of a BDSM club and he's a natural sub. Clint was involved with a Domme years before and was serious about her but when she left him for another sub he was heartbroken. The fact that the other sub was a woman caused Clint to doubt his masculinity on top of the heartbreak. Since then Clint has only had physical encounters with strange Dommes at out-of-town clubs (to ensure he doesn't make a connection).
Montana comes to the BDSM club as a possible member. She was referred by another club owner (from before she bought her ranch and moved here) that Reese (one of the club owners) knows so she has a pretty easy time getting a membership. Montana and Clint meet right off the bat and there's a sizzling attraction between them but both are wary due to their past experiences and avoid getting too close. Montana can tell that Clint's a sub and she wants to approach him in that manner but he quite clearly has raised walls against Montana so she doesn't push. She ends up taking a sub from the club that looks like Clint and tries to accept him as a replacement. Meanwhile, Clint wants Montana badly but keeps his distance because he's unwilling to take a chance. This goes on for a few weeks until they're both invited to a friends for a BBQ. The attraction between them is intense but they're both still fighting it. Clint ends up giving Montana a ride home and they end up having a "session" that night but it doesn't go to far and the walls are definitely still up. They decide to try night together the next week and it goes very well between them but it also cements the budding emotions between them but sends Clint running for the hills. This causes some drama but fortunately Clint is too hung up on Montana to be able to stay away and they manage to work things out and start a HEA together.
This was a good story but wasn't quite my thing. Outside of the Domme thing, my only real complaint was the ending. It ended up being an insta-love thing and the story's conclusion seemed a bit rushed to me. I liked Montana, she was a pretty good character. I liked Clint too but got a bit frustrated with him letting fear rule him as much as he did. Outside of that it was a good story and would probably be very good if you're in to Dommes.

Bite the Bullet is the third novella in Holt’s Rawhide series. It was a very interesting read for me in that the erotica I have read previously the males are always the Dominant ones in the Dom/Sub relationship.
In Bite the Bullet, Clint Chavez is the co-owner of Rawhide and has a secret that most don’t know. He is a submissive male. From looking at him you would never guess that he is a natural submissive. He was hurt badly by a former mistress and has not opened himself to anyone since then. Montana, is a striking independent woman who recently divorced her cheating husband. Neither one want or are ready for a permanent relationship. Little do they know fate has a surprise in mind for them.
There was less sex in this novella than the previous one in the series. However, the sex that did happen was super hot and very believable. I really like how the author is able to mix hot sex scenes with sweet human emotion scenes. It is more than straight BDSM erotica, it is a story with romance as well. I would totally recommend these books to anyone.

Clint and Montana find their way to a start. But is it enough for these two hurt people to find healing in their need for each other... and their acceptance of that need? The sex is amazing and as hot as it gets. The passion is intense and undeniable...but will it overcome the fear that threatens to drive them apart?
I like the way that this couple's only chance for happiness depends on breaking through their walls of protection to a place of trust. It's plain that this is a difficult struggle, especially for Clint, but one worth the risk. Bite the Bullet is aptly named in my opinion because the characters, each in their own way, had to face their pain and take up the fearful challenge to open their hearts fully and surrender to their love.
I wanted this story to be longer. I wanted to see more of the mental (and physical) action going on before Clint and Montana got together the first time...and a little more background about their sexual roles. But this was still a complete story that is not to be missed.
Desiree Holt's work keeps getting better and better! I recommend that you pick up a copy of Bite the Bullet today.

We as readers are very rarely treated to the other side of the Dom/Domme persona.
While I have read many BDSM books where the Domme/Sub relationship is mentioned, it rarely goes into detail and the Sub is usually soft and compliant in nature.
Enter one very masculine Alpha male who just happens to prefer to be the bottom, not the top!! And what hot blooded woman wouldn’t want to have the pleasure of running her hands (and many other things) all over Clint Chavez.
But both Domme and Sub have past relationships issues that will make this paring one of denial and angst.

What do you get when two individuals, one a Dom & one a Sub, both have damaged pasts? The answer is a simple one. A great erotica romance with an interesting storyline and BDSM erotica elements...
