Light From Within

Rate this book
"Linda McCartney's last completed photographic project, Light from Within reveals her mastery of the medium. Documenting thirty years of her life, the photographs are witty, lyrical, and warmly personal." The images of Light from Within reflect Linda's wide range of passions and interests. The photographs chosen include portraits taken during her years as the Fillmore East photographer in the 1960s; more recent portraits of her family and illustrious friends; landscapes - some quietly lovely, some revealing a sense of irony - and finally, photographs from every era of her life that seize the passing moment and convey a spare beauty as well as Linda's own unique brand of surrealism. This personal collection is intuitive, poetic, and resonant with meaning. As Paul McCartney writes in his foreword, "the light from within shines out of every image."

Linda Louise, Lady McCartney (née Eastman, previously See) was an American photographer, musician, and animal rights activist. She married Paul McCartney of The Beatles on 12 March 1969, and was a member of Wings. The McCartneys had four children together: Heather Louise (from her previous marriage, whom McCartney adopted in 1969), Mary Anna, Stella Nina, and James Louis McCartney. Linda became Lady McCartney when her husband was knighted in 1997.

The McCartneys shared an Oscar nomination for the song "Live and Let Die", which they co-wrote, and she authored several vegetarian cookbooks, became a business entrepreneur (starting the Linda McCartney Foods company) and was a professional photographer, publishing Linda McCartney's Sixties: Portrait of an Era.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995, and died at the age of 56 on 17 April 1998, at the McCartney family ranch in Tucson, Arizona. She left her entire estate to McCartney through a Qualified Domestic Trust Fund.

One of the world's most talented photographers. A brilliant summary of her work. Great introduction by Paul McCartney and except text by Linda.

I don't know why this is listed as Paul McCartney, but it's a Linda McCartney book. He did write an awesome foreword and it solidifies my thought that they were just about the perfect couple. This book has the full 60's-70's vibe with a few cool poems thrown in. The mixture of rock-n-roll and life on the farm gives it some depth. And the little haikus have a hippy-dippy mother earth feeling. This is great book for the collection, especially for women. I got it as a gift and it's been out on my table for a long time.

I have been taking photos since High School when I started with B&W film, now it's easier to document life with a camera in your cell phone. I still love film but the convenience of digital photos is wonderful.....I rarely miss an important moment. Linda McCartney's eye for capturing life's special moments is amazing, her photos conjure memories of days gone by, and her life allowed for many great photos.....I enjoy all her books both photography and vegetarian recipes.

Great selection of grainy photos from the cultural 60s ... and a few real winners of rural/domestic life. A sensitive and loving vision comes through - photographs that speak of a life well lived.
