Best friends Mac and Cheese are back--and this time, Mac wants Cheese to spend a day at the beach with him. But oh, no, Cheese doesn't like the beach at all! Mac finally convinces Cheese that the sea is the place to be. Original.

For early elementary readers, this easy reader book has short, rhyming lines that are great for promoting early literacy. The story also uses many sight words that may be new to the reader, but the illustrated objects and actions will help the child learn the meaning of the words. The back and forth between two cat friends planning for a day at the beach has plenty of dialogue and even a repeated little song that is fun to sing aloud. The colorful pictures and twists in the plan will keep young readers interested and wanting to keep reading.
Mac wants to go to the beach, but Cheese wants to stay home. So Mac badgers and bullies Cheese until he finally agrees to go with him.
My Hubby and I are introverts and I have had "friends" before who would always try to push me into getting their way, so this did not seem like a charming book about friendship to me. It seemed like a book about giving in to a narcissistic bully in an attempt to make them stop giving you hell.
Not how I want to teach my daughter to deal with pushy "friends." Got rid of this one.
This silly rhyming book took compromising to a whole new level. We all have to do things we don’t want to do and my son struggles with that. But with tools to help him conquer his reluctance, things become easier. Sometimes that can come at the cost of me losing out on something. This book shows him that even though things didn’t go as planned, there are ways to reach a middle ground. It introduces problem solving skills in a fun way
Cheese, the grumpy mouse and Mac, the happy cat are together again. This time, Mac wants Cheese to go to the beach with him. To convince Cheese, Mac sings a song until Cheese gives in. But in their hustle to get packed and ready (and Mac's need to take way more than is necessary), they miss the bus. This time, Cheese smooths things over.
This book is a great early reader thanks to predictable rhyming text and engaging illustrations. As advertised, it is a book that will have your youngest readers exclaiming "I can read!" It is humorous and features two characters who are good friends to one another.
Unlike Grumpy Cat books, even though Cheese is grumpy in the book, it doesn't bring down the entire story because Mac, his best friend is so upbeat. Then at the end when Mac's plans for the day are ruined, Cheese steps in a saves the day. A nice friendship story.
This is a good teaching book for kids. You can tie behavior and how we treat people together. My kids enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend this book to others.
Mac and Cheese and the Perfect Plan by Sarah Weeks, illustrated by Jane Manning is the story of two alley cats with opposite personalities who decide to catch the bus to the beach to cool off, but miss their bus. Can they still have a beach day?
Manning's colorful watercolor illustrations highlight the urban alley environment, using one and two page spreads, with a couple two and six panel pages. My favorite images are sleeping, frowns, fleas, plugs his ears, no milk, Oh, NO!, and last two pictures.
Odd-couple friends Mac and Cheese argue but co-exist, as many friends do, in a humorous way. This sequel to Mac and Cheese is an effective beginning reader, with lots of repetition, rhyming, and short sentences. The bad singing can be a hit when reading aloud, as well as the plugging your ears. I love disreputable-looking Mac. Hanging out with Mac and Cheese is no trip to the beach: it's much funnier. I recommend this for school and public library collections.
For ages 3 to 7, friendship, beach, beginning readers, read-aloud, humor, rhymes and fans of Sarah Weeks and Jane Manning.
This easy reader is a fabulous follow-up to the hit sensation Mac and Cheese. Mac and Cheese are cats who are friends. Mac is very active and Cheese is a more laid-back kind of cat. In this book, Cheese reluctantly agrees to go to the beach with Mac. Things turn hairy when Cheese, hilariously, wants to bring lots of gear to the beach. Mac is downhearted about transporting all this stuff so Cheese devises a happy solution. Just like in the first book, Cheese proves beyond a doubt that he really does care about Mac. We hope that there are my stories in the works for this series!
Mac and Cheese are two alley cats, who can't agree on anything. Mac wants to go to the beach, but Cheese doesn't like the beach. After a little -- make that a LOT of persuasion, Cheese agrees to go -- with a few stipulations....
The second adventure of two funny street cats, told in a swinging rhyme that is sure to entertain an early reader or younger. Ages 3-7.
Mac and Cheese are back for a second adventure. I like the rhyming and I think Sarah Weeks does an excellent job of giving her characters personality with only a few lines per page in a 32-page book. Jane Manning's illustrations round the book out making this a must give to kids who like quirky friendship books. Give to readers of Elephant and Piggie, Frog and Toad, Houndsley and Catina, etc.
This is a Level 1 Book in the I Can Read Series. Young Readers will delight in the rhythmic and rhyming tale of two cats, one named Mac and the other Cheese. Mac wants to go to the sea and he is trying to get grumpy Cheese to come along but Cheese would rather stay in bed.
The humor and the storyline in this book remind me of two other animal friends . . . the infamous Frog and Toad.
A fun story and lovely illustrations make this a cut-above for an early reader. The short sentences with repeated words and phrases is sure to have chilren reading on their own in no time. Recommended.
The two alley cat friends, Mac an d Cheese plan a trip to the beach, but do they arrive or must Cheese save the situation with a "city" verison of the beach. Fun easy reader. Mac and Cheese have great personalities.
In silly rhyme, two alleycats argue over whether they should go to the beach or not. (Mac is in favor, Cheese is against.) When they miss the bus, they have to settle for the pool. Colorful watercolor illustrations were probably my favorite part of this odd couple series.
one wants to go to the beach, the other doesn't. nice rhyme and story twist. fun to read because of having to sing awfully. though it is reader size, so not great for large groups.
