Although I have written Book 2 in the series to be able to be read in its own right... It will be far more enjoyable if you have read the first book. Legends of Marithia 1 (Prophecies Awakening) was an adrenaline rush journey of events, that set the stage for the entire series.
It is only fair that I make yet another important note here to all new readers:
*Content warning* Legends of Marithia : Darkness Rising is a book written for an adult audience. It contains themes and scenes that some readers *may* find confronting, or difficult to handle.
Also, if you are looking for a standard fantasy read with a happy-go-lucky storyline, that is predictable, and hides the darker sides of characters... This is not the book for you, neither are any in the series.
For those who have read the first book, prepare for a very different journey in a familiar place. You will get many answers that may surprise you, twists and turns that you will not see coming, and carefully wrapped secrets revealed.
You will meet some new characters and get to know some familiar characters much better. You thought that the prophecies were black and white and simple? Think again!
Enjoy the second installment in my series, and may the gods be with you.

"Darkness Rising" is the second book in the "Legends of Marithia" series, and I am delighted to say that it's even better than its prequel.
One of the best things about it is that we get to know the background stories of different characters. For instance, we are presented with Shindar's past, and his life before he had become the "Lord of Darkness", and what his motives behind his evil actions are.
The battle between good and evil continues with Vartan training for the next confrontation with the Forces of Darkness. The huge loss of lives in the Battle of the Elven Woods brings new souls to Shindar, strengthening his power. Veldrenn is destroyed and is being reconstructed, Greenhaven is the territory of a powerful, sly demon, and Talonsphere, the object fated to destroy darkness, is still nowhere to be found.
The book still manages to be full of surprises and unexpected turns of events, like its prequel, but this time in a greater number.
"I can only show you the doors, you must choose one to walk through and discover what you find on the other side."
I have found myself smiling at times, laughing or getting worried for the characters that I have grown to love.
" "These waters are sacred to us and for you to be allowed to swim in these waters is a rare honour. What are you waiting for?"
Vartan turned to look at Trisa.
She winked at him and whispered, "Don't worry young man, I've seen it all before. You have nothing to be shy around me for."
"I wasn't..." began Vartan, his cheeks reddening, "Never mind." "
It made me happy to find out that, like in "Prophecies Awakening", the chapters were preceded by figments of thoughts and feelings of different characters.
"Our destinies are riddled with challenges that have a tendency to ruin well laid plans. Many have attempted to take fate into their own hands and have been unsuccessful in changing it.
Others find that their paths differ from what they have dreamed for themselves. We must be aware that our choices may come back to haunt us later in life, but to trust that is is all part of fate's desing."
The action takes place in pretty much the same places as in the first book of the series, but this time we get an insight into Zhendur, a very interesting location that vampires call "home", a place where they retreat to rest and recover their forces.
It happens rarely to me, but I can say that I liked all the characters. Vartan will get to learn some "new tricks" and will be stronger that ever before, but I'll leave you to discover how by yourselves. In my previous review, I stated that the first book left a bitter taste in my mouth due to certain characters' deaths. To my surprise, not everything was what it seemed to have been. I don't want to spoil this book for you if you haven't read it yet, but I will tell you this: some of them will come back... in a way or another. Not only do they come back, but there are also new characters introduced to us, both good and bad ones, all very important to the story's development. I, for one, hold very dear to my heart two of them: a certain sorceress who is more than what she seemes to be at first, and a demon hunter, both women. In the book, we will be present when they first meet and will witness the development of a special bond between them.
Something that I liked in these books and that I have forgotten to mention in the previous review, was the spells, who have been written in Latin, a language that, though dead, I find to be perfect in this situation.
There really was nothing I can complain about in this book. Everything that was happening felt natural, I felt no events to be "forced" by the author. The characters were great, and their development was clear. I recommend this series to any adult who loves fantasy.

„Darkness Rising e a doua carte din seria „Legends of Marithia”, şi sunt încântată să vă spun că e chiar mai bună decât prima.
Una din cele mai bune calităţi ale ei este faptul că aflăm poveştile din spatele diferitelor personaje. De exemplu, ne este prezentat trecutul lui Shindar şi viaţa lui înainte de a deveni „Lordul Întunericului”, şi care sunt motivele din spatele actelor sale malefice.
Bătălia dintre bine şi rău continuă, Vartan antrenându-se pentru următoarea confruntare cu Forţele Întunericului. Enorma pierdere de vieţi din bătălia din Pădurile Elfilor îi aduce noi suflete lui Shindar, întărindu-i puterile. Veldrenn este distrus şi trebuie reconstruit, Greenhaven e teritoriul unui demon puternic şi viclean, iar Talonsfera, obiectul destinat să distrugă întunericul, nu e de găsit.
Cartea reuşeşte să fie plină de surprize şi răsturnări neaşteptate de evenimente, ca şi volumul precedent, doar că de data aceasta în număr mai mare.
„Îţi pot arăta doar uşile, tu trebuie să alegi una prin care să păşeşti şi să descoperi ce se găseşte de cealaltă parte.”
M-am trezit zâmbind, râzând sau îngrijorându-mă pentru personajele pe care am ajuns să le îndrăgesc.
„Aceste ape sunt sacre poentru noi, şi e o rară onoare să îţi fie permis să înoţi în ele. Ce mai aştepţi?
Vartan s-a întors să o privească pe Trisa.
Ea i-a făcut cu ochiul şi i-a şoptit: „Nu-ţi face griji, tinere, am mai văzut şi altă dată. Nu ai de ce să te ruşinezi faţă de mine.”
„Nu m-am...”, a început Vartan, obrajii îmbujorându-i-se, „Las-o baltă!”
M-am bucurat să văd că, la fel ca în „Prophecies Awakening”, capitolele erau precedate de fragmente din gândurile şi sentimentele diferitelor personaje.
„Destinele noastre sunt presărate de provocări care au tendinţa de a strica planurile bine făcute. Mulţi au încercat să-şi ia soarta în mâini şi au eşuat în a o schimba.
Alţii găsesc că drumurile lor diferă de ceea ce au visat pentru ei. Trebuie să fim conştienţi că alegerile noastre ne pot tortura mai târziu în viaţă, dar să avem încredere că totul face parte din planul destinului.”
Acţiunea are loc în cam aceleaşi locuri ca în prima carte a seriei, doar că, de data asta, vom pătrunde în esenţa Zhendurului, o locaţie foarte interesantă pe care vampirii o numesc „casă”, un loc în care se retrag pentru a se odihni şi a-şi reface forţele.
Mi se întâmplă asta rar, dar pot să spun că mi-au plăcut toate personajele. Vartan va învăţa nişte „trucuri noi” şi va fi mai puternic ca niciodată, dar vă las să descoperiţi asta singuri. În recenzia precedentă, am scris că prima carte mi-a lăsat un gust amar din cauza morţii anumitor personaje. Spre surpriza mea, nu totul a fost cum a părut. Nu vreau să vă stric surpriza, dar vă spun că unele din personaje se vor întoarce... într-un fel sau altul. Şi nu numai că se întorc, dar ne sunt introduse şi noi personaje, atât bune cât şi rele, toate importante la dezvoltarea poveştii. Mie, uneia, mi-au căzut dragi la inimă două din aceste personaje: o anumită vrăjitoare care e mai mult decât ceea ce pare la început, şi o vânătoare de demoni. În carte, vom fi prezenţi în momentul în care cele două se întâlnesc şi vom fi martorii formării unei legături speciale între ele.
Ceva ce mi-a plăcut în aceste cărţi şi am uitat să menţionez în recenzia precedentă, este faptul că vrăjile sunt scrise în latină, o limbă care, deşi moartă, mi se pare că se potriveşte perfect.
Chiar nu e nimic de care să mă plâng în legătură cu această carte. Tot ceea ce s-a întâmplat în carte a fost natural, nu am simţit ca anumite evenimente să fie „forţate” de către autor. Personajele sunt grozave, iar evoluţia lor e clară. Recomand această serie tuturor adulţilor iubitori ai genului fantasy.

This book has it all: prophecies, dragons, elves, royality, gods, magic truth pendant, sorceresses, vampires, demons, a dark lord, a demon hunter and so much more. You seriously cant ask for anything better. Dont let the cover deceive you this is an amazing series. Im glad I took a chance with this indie series because it quickly become one of my favorites. I took my time before reading the sequel because Im not sure what Im going to do with myself once its all over. Where else am I going to find all my favorite fantasy elements in one series.
I have to say the author really knows how to create an incredibly vivid and imaginative fantasy world. Ive never read anything quite like it. We're introduced to the Vampire City in this novel and we revisited some of my old favorites. My favorite setting is probably the Trade City where people from different worlds use a portal to enter the city to buy and sell weapons and other goods. The Elven City is a close second with trees magically grown into houses. We also get to see a bit more of the Underworld and the Dragon Island in this novel.
I loved how all the different character threads are woven into this epic story. We get to see the old cast of fascinating characters with the addition of a few new characters. Two of which Ive taken a huge liking to. Kari and Yuski were cute together and I cant wait to see more of their relationship in the next book. Its great to see some diversity from two very strong female characters. I also liked that we got more of the main character Vartan and Helenas relationship in this novel. The trader Makya was also a very interesting character.
I really appreciated how the antagonists were well developped. I think its important to understand why antagonists do the things they do. Wanting power simply to have power doesnt cut it. Its a lot more believable when an antagonist wants revenge or power in order not to feel vulnerable again because of something tragic thats happened in the past. I felt for the Lord of the Underworld when I read his backstory in this book just like I felt for the Vampire Sorceress when I read her backstory in the first book. They're some of the best antagonists Ive read about.
The writing needs a bit more editing but its barely noticeable and it doesnt take away from the flow of the story. It took me a few chapters to get back into the sequel but the pace picked up quickly. I found a few things confusing like why we didnt get to know if Karis Master found her. Im not sure why Helena had to go with them into Greenhaven but it was still entertaining. I think skipping the conversation between the Queen and Karven would have made a better surprise ending but it was still a great revelation. If you love fantasy and dont mind some adult content then you should give this series a try.

Oh Peter... why do you leave me hanging?!

So, after reading and writing my review for Prophecies Awakening, I was surprised to have Peter send me a copy of its sequel. If you know me, you’ll guess how my reaction was:
However, I’ve been a terrible reviewer and I apologise to Peter for delaying this book for quite a long time. It wasn’t my intention. But, I have to admit that as soon as I picked it up, it was hard to resist the pull it had on me. It was addictive from the very beginning.
This was an amazing continuation of Prophecies Awakening. I felt it was more coherent, and more crafted (so to speak) and it brought us a new dimension to the already-known world of Marithia. It flew better, like a piece of a puzzle put together in a more artful way. I absolutely loved this book and I dare say this is my favourite of the two volumes.
In this book, we get a deeper perspective of the previous characters. I had mentioned in my previous review that I wished there was more of Helenia and Peter didn’t let me down. He kept his promise when he told me she would appear more. She did; she appeared as a war apprentice and then as a warrior and a wife. But still, there could be much more about her.
The background story of Vartan’s journey to becoming a knight was a really nice touch. I understand why Peter didn’t tell us that bit of his past in book one.
All background stories that are told in the books are a way for us to get deeper into the character’s personalities and emotions. And having small bits of it told throughout the story, not straightforward, creates a connection with them in a profound way that otherwise would not exist. And that happens with Vartan’s past.
Tusdar was such a surprise which I did not see coming. But then again, there were several things in this book I didn’t see coming at all! And Tusdar was the first of several shocks I had while reading this. Having him turned into a vampire was something I had to read twice because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. And then, when Kassina orders him to kill Aidan to prove his loyalty to Shindar, I was beyond words to the horror. Really, I wasn’t expecting it.
Neither was I expecting that discovery at the end of the book which had me gaping for several minutes. Kassina is Karven and Nymiria’s granddaughter?! And she could also be the chosen to fulfil the prophecy?! God, that came out of the blue and I felt like I was falling with that knowledge.
Yes, Kassina still lives and she still scares the hell out of me. But she showed us a different side to her in this book. I felt she was more… innocent. It’s hard to explain but, despite the fact that she still freaked me out at times with her bloodlust, there was also this new feeling of sympathy I couldn’t help but sense for her.
And then, we are presented with a brand new character: Anakari (or just Kari) is a sorceress elf and she was a really good new character to appear in the book. There is something about her, perhaps her aura of mystery and her naivety that makes you want to know more about her origins. And then you find out she has this major role in saving Marithia alongside Vartan just makes you eager to know more about her. Yes, I do confess that Kari became my favourite character in the book. Her relationship with Yuski was a tender surprise even though I felt it was slightly rushed. Both of them were so adorable I wished there were chapters with them journeying through the woods.
If I had enjoyed the first book, this one had me over the moon. Peter promised me that this book would have so much more going on and he kept his promise. There was action, romance, some sex scenes (not too explicit) and new characters. Secrets were told and others were found. Shocks had me breathing hard, and sweet moments had me grinning. This book had all I love in a book and a bit more.
There was only one thing I didn’t like. And what was that you wonder?! The last chapter when I read “to be continued” after this mega cliffhanger.
My reaction, exactly, Mr Fox!!!
I wish to thank Peter once again for the opportunity to read and review his books. Again, I was overwhelmed by his request and I’m beyond happy to admit that his books are amazing.
Now, can I just ask you to hurry up with the third volume?!

OK, I liked this book better than Prophecies Awakening.
First of all, I love it when authors add a characters' list at the beginning of a book. My memory is quite bad when it comes to remember names from previous books. Yeah, I read Prophecies Awakening back in June and most of the secondary characters' names were long forgotten and I had to get back to the beginning a fair amount of times. But yeah, my bad.
As in the first book, I loved the opening of each chapter in which different characters tell their feelings about the situation they're in. It makes them more real, if this may be possible. ^__^
In addition, I don't think that the first chapter is useful in explaining why Shindar turns bad so suddenly. And I wrote the same thing for the first chapter in Prophecies Awakening as well. Really, the explanation was a bit weak in my opinion: not everyone who's seen their parents tortured and murdered or their spouse raped and killed turn into monsters. Apart from that, I still dislike Kassina and I think that Shindar makes a better villain. Don't ask me why, though.
Maybe I liked this better because I was already familiar with the characters and this book helps the readers to get to know them better. I adored the scene in which Vartan fights against Dryer (don't know if I spell it correctly, sorry): the newbie against the best warrior in the realm. It was so funny.

OK, I liked this book better than Prophecies Awakening.
First of all, I love it when authors add a characters' list at the beginning of a book. My memory is quite bad when it comes to remember names from previous books. Yeah, I read Prophecies Awakening back in June and most of the secondary characters' names were long forgotten and I had to get back to the beginning a fair amount of times. But yeah, my bad.
As in the first book, I loved the opening of each chapter in which different characters tell their feelings about the situation they're in. It makes them more real, if this may be possible. ^__^
In addition, I don't think that the first chapter is useful in explaining why Shindar turns bad so suddenly. And I wrote the same thing for the first chapter in Prophecies Awakening as well. Really, the explanation was a bit weak in my opinion: not everyone who's seen their parents tortured and murdered or their spouse raped and killed turn into monsters. Apart from that, I still dislike Kassina and I think that Shindar makes a better villain. Don't ask me why, though.
Maybe I liked this better because I was already familiar with the characters and this book helps the readers to get to know them better. I adored the scene in which Vartan fights against Dryer (don't know if I spell it correctly, sorry): the newbie against the best warrior in the realm. It was so funny.

A great continuation of the story begun in Prophecies Awakening, Darkness Rising is book two of the Legends of Marithia series. I actually enjoyed Darkness more than Prophecies, because the story seemed to flow a bit more coherently. It is clear that Mr. Koevari took into account the feedback from the first book and used it to his advantage in crafting a much more put-together story.
In Darkness, most of the book revolves around the characters getting ready for the upcoming mega-battle between Shindar and his vampires and skeleton warriors, and Vartan and the forces of elves, dragons and humans. While that can sound boring, it was actually done pretty well. The war was always in the back of my mind, because everything that was happening was based solely on that war. Vartan's training, and all of the information he received from the dragons, helped the reader see why and how this war is being fought.
I had only one major problem with this book: there were a LOT of grammatical errors. They were made the same way throughout, however, which suggests that it is just a misunderstanding of how exactly punctuation plays a major role in the structure of a sentence. I would suggest having a proofer go over and correct the manuscript, just for the sake of continuity and clarity.
After reading this book, I am definitely looking forward to seeing how the war ends, whether Vartan activates Talonsphere or someone else does, what happens to his marriage with Helenia, and the fate of the Marithian people and the world.

This is book 2 of Legends of Marithia series.So far the series is making me think of a chess match.The first novel was a flurry of moves as the opponents test each others defenses.The second was more along the lines of setting up strategies to defeat their opponents.While it might not have quite as much action as the first, there is more intrigue and character development.You get to learn more about characters from both sides of the war.New characters are also introduced and old characters change direction.
This series is getting better all the time.It takes elements that we are all familiar with and gives them a new twist.It starts with classic fantasy,heavily influenced with those great fantasies of the 1980's, adds a dash of sci-fi and wraps it up with the author's own vision.
While you probably won't like the villians in the novel, you will find them intriguing.It is fairly rare to find a story that develops the bad guys as well as the good guys.This is especially nice when some characters walk the line between being good and bad.

Enjoyed this read immensely!
Peter did receive some feedback regarding character depth in book 1. Book 2 eats this feedback for breakfast. It's as though book 1 was a 'teaser'... a fast paced fantasy thriller to get you hooked. Book 2 goes on to explain many beginnings for many characters. Not to give anything away, but we now know why Shindar is Shindar (and I don't really blame him)!
There are some extreme twists throughout, but especially toward the end. You are left guessing at many points, with answers being thrown at you when you least expect them. There were chapters that had me at the edge of my reading seat (literally!). There were chapters that provided some other types of thrills (will leave that to the imagination).
This is a book for the adults amongst us... having said that, Peter details these parts very well without the feeling of 'trashy' reading. It's all class.
I am thoroughly enjoying this saga, and look foward to book 3 and beyond. Peter has a way of writing that drags you in and allows you to create wonderful visuals of the story. You can become part of Marithia very easily.

I was thinking that nothing can suprise me after book 1. I was soo wrong! This book is fuckin' amazing!
Full with soo much intresting twists and caracters. When you start to read you just can't stop untill you read all of it. On every page you discover something new and intresting.
Peter did great job creating the world of Maritha, beautiful but terrifying at the same time. Full with creatures that you can't imagine.
This book have everything. Kingdom, Hero, Knight, Princess, Queen, Sorcerers, Dragons, Vampires, Demons...
You just need to love this.
I still can't believe what I discovered at the end of this book. Peter found a lot of ways to suprise every person who read his book.

The story continues where the first book finished. In the second book it's all about getting prepared for the final battle between good and evil. Also we meet a new characters both good and bad and also I'm happy with returning some of the old ones, the ones who I thought they will stay dead for good. Love the story about why Shindar turned to the evil side. The author did a great job with creating this world of Marithia, love the places in the book.
Recommend to everyone who wants to read a awesome fantasy story.

Characters were more solidified which is characteristic in a series of books. Peter followed through with previous characters from Book 1 and tied up any loose connections. More suspense is created in 'Darkness Rising' and excellent foreshadowing kept the readers engaged throughout.

Peter Koevari does a fantastic job of world building in this novel. We learned about Marithia in the first book, and yet I find that I am still being immersed in another side of it in this second installment. This story has it all : noble dragons, loyal elves, fragile humans, and fierce vampires. Yes! I just said vampires! That is what initially brought me to this series-the concept of having a high fantasy with all your classic characters but then vampires were added to the mix. It definitely gives fantasy a new twist.
I really liked this idea but I noticed I had a hard time getting into the second novel. There were parts that seemed to drag on and on without really getting to the point. This was in the beginning but towards the middle and definitely the end, I found myself going, "Oh my goodness, didn't see that coming!"
Vartan is a strong male lead who is noble and always thinking of his country, his people, and his freedom. It is filling watching Vartan make the choices he makes and the way he puts himself in the path of danger to save one person. It was also crushing to see his reaction to Tusdar.
Speaking of Tusdar...wow! He has been crucial to the story; much more than I thought he would. I really liked him in the first book and so it is nice to see him still around in the second book. I can't really talk about him that much because I don't want to give anything away, but he is in love just as much as Vartan is with his love.
In fact, we get to see the concept of love from both sides: good and evil. It is a nice touch to a story that likes to blur the lines between good and evil. I feel like there is a lot of the gray area in this story.
We also meet some new characters in the story and we finally get a small but explosive peek into what the gods really are doing.
I still find myself confused by the whole concept of the Talonsphere. I understand what it will do, who needs to activate it (and who doesn't), and the reason it was made; but I guess I am just anxious for it to be brought to the front.
Nevertheless, there are so many surprising twists in the story you will literally be shaking your head, never seeing it coming.
Darkness Rising is a high fantasy story that takes many different elements into consideration to take us on an imaginative journey through a land that is on the brink of falling apart without its hero finding his true potential.
I give it four hearts.

I received a free ebook copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This book is as enjoyable, if not more so, than the first book in the series, "Prophecies Awakening." In "Darkness Rising," the reader learns more about Vartan's past, as well as Kassina's and Shindar's. I liked how Shindar's fall into evil parallels Kassina's own fall. It explains his fatherly feelings for her and his desire to use her for his own revenge. The blood magic used throughout the book by these characters is quite appropriate, both because of the presence of vampires and because blood magic is potent and associated with black magic.
I did notice several grammatical mistakes throughout the story (mostly in the form of comma splices, although I spotted a few misplaced modifiers and weirdly formatted apostrophes as well), but this did not overly detract from my enjoyment of the book. I also missed the gorgeous artwork that came with the ebook of the first novel (although my eyes were spoiled because most books usually only have cover art).
In my previous review, I stated that the prophecies seemed obvious and cheesy. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was not the case.
Ankari is an interesting character. Her naivety is well-done, as are her interactions with Yuski. She reminds me of a Snow White/Sleeping Beauty figure when she is about to play her role.
Tusdar's story interested me most, moreso than Vartan's (although the magic that he acquires has beautiful description), and I hope that his conflict becomes more present in the next instalment.
I look forward to seeing how the storylines intertwine and interact, particularly Tusdar's mingling with Vartan's.

I received Legends of Marithia: Book 2- Dark Rising by Peter Koevari for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Dark Rising is the second book in the Legends of Marithia Series. In this book, more background was given on the characters own personal stories. These back stories of the characters were not given in the first book. Though, in the case of Vartan, I understand why his backstory of becoming a knight was not told until the beginning of book two. These back stories that were given gave the characters more of a real feeling to them, because you got to understand the characters more and understand the choices they make throughout the story based upon things that occurred in the past.
Besides the growth of the characters from the first book and a better understanding of who they are, some new characters were introduced in this book which I totally fell in love with. AnaKari was probably my favorite character in this series. She comes with a mystery that really makes you want to know more and as the book goes on, you learn more about her, you find yourself with more questions and dying to know more of her origins just as she wonders about them herself. You are really following her along on her own journey of self-discovery and I loved that about this character that you are learning about her just as she is learning about herself.
Along with the growth of characters and the introduction of others, a different side of Kassina is shown. In my review of the first book, I said, Kassina is really hard to feel sympathy for; based on what I read in that book I still agree with that statement. Though based on this book she isn't seen as such a blood thirsty murderous character she is shown more in the light of an innocent child who was hurt and led astray by another person who was hurt and seeking revenge.
I found that in the first book you leave with a sense of what side is right and wrong. This book makes you question which side is truly good and which side is truly evil. I found myself leaving this book with the ideas of good and evil is a matter of perspective. When you have the full story from both sides, the idea of one being right and one being wrong is based on perspective. There is a lot of gray areas and not to take things as face value. The first book lays out the one thing giving you one perspective while I found the second to make you question what was learned from the first book told you.

I need to start this review by stating that I love Peter’s writing. I don’t know how to put it exactly, but it’s perfect… it has an incredible melodic and poetry-vibe; everything fits perfectly together and makes sense. Legends of Marithia trilogy is a medieval fantasy world and every word written by Peter feels like it belongs in a medieval fantasy world.
That being said, let’s jump into Darkness Rising, the second instalment of Legends of Marithia trilogy. In this book, we continue to keep up with Vartan’s story, and it includes Kassina, Helenia, Humans, Dragons, Elves, Vampires, and souls.
In my opinion Darkness Rising is as good as Prophecies Awakening, it can maintain the quality of the previous book, but I found some points not as good as I hoped for; it didn’t live up to my expectations, since I loved the first book. First of all, I couldn’t connect with the characters as easily as I did with Prophecies Awakening. Vartan and Kassina (who I loved from the previous book) weren’t so appealing as they were before. And I never exactly liked Helenia – despite the fact that she actually surprised me at the end of Prophecies Awakening, but here she went back to being just meh. I’m not even going to talk about that marriage – way too abrupt and that wedding night just… empty.
Darkness Rising had less action than Prophecies Awakening, except the last part, but everything that happens needed to happen. We’ve learned a lot about Marithia; about some of the characters’ background, and we had the introduction of new important characters as well; about the prophecies and so many other things.

Darkness Rising book 2 of Legends of Marithia by Peter Koevari is a fast paced fantasy thriller. Peter Koevari does an excellent job pulling readers in with all the twists and turns throughout and thrills readers with one final twist at the end. Peter Koevari uses Darkness Rising book 2 of Legends of Marithia to go into detailing the beginning of many of the characters. Here we will find Shindar was not always as he is now, once he was a better man and we learn what caused his fall. Peter Koevari gives more details of Vartan's past and how Shindar's own fall into evil parallels Kassina's own fall. In doing so he gives explaination to Shindar's fatherly feelings for her and his desire to use her for his own revenge. In Darkness Rising the use of blood magic throughout the book by characters is quite appropriate, because blood magic is potent and associated with black magic. While readers probably won't like the villians of Darkness Rising, Peter Koevari has done what is rarely done, he has given life to even the villians of the story. By doing this readers will get to learn more about characters from both sides of the war and allow readers to develop feelings for the villians as well as the heros. This is a rare find when a story develops the bad guys as well as the good guys, as most authors cannot pull it off. Peter Koevari doing this was especially nice because some characters walk the line between being good and evil. Darkness Rising book 2 of Legends of Marithia does have one section containing "adult content". Though the sceen is detailed, in no way is this sceen rude, crude, cheap or volgar. Peter Koevari once again has done what most authors seem to strugle to accomplish, gives the sceen class and is able to portray to readers the feelings of intimacey that is being shared between the characters. Peter Koevari reached for the stars when he wrote Prophecies Awakening book 1 of Legends of Marithia and with Darkness Rising book 2 of Legends of Marithia Peter Koevari proves he is already well beyond their reach. I am anxious for the continuation of Legends of Marithia.

So, after reading the first one, I didn't have to high hopes for this second one in the trilogy. I'm proved mostely wrong.
I feel like there are still some issues, so I'll start with that.
- It really felt strange that the necklace and our main character were acting like such close friends. Did I miss something? It was like they only just met in the first book? And after introducing them like such good friends... you like rarely hear about the necklace again....
- The story about the elves and humans is lacking a lot of background. The writer tells us how extra ordinary it is for them to work along, that it hasn't been always that way. But we don't have a clue what happend in the past, what the struggle was... so I can not see or feel the grandness for them to work together. (or I really missed something again?)
Also some troubles with interaction between people. Actually, that's the thing that bugs me the most...
It always feels so fake and childish. When you have a joke between people.... I'm like 'really?!!'
So for what I liked.
I liked that we were in for some surprises.
I liked it to be pulled again into liking the characters of the darker side. I think it will be interesting to see what happens with good/evil in the next book.
There were also some new interesting characters. Really liked Ananari with some great detail about how she looks!
And the thing that improved the most in this book is the way of describing things.
There is way better description of fights and surroundings, they look and feel realistic now.
So overall... I gave it 3 stars because of the improvement and because I even feel interested for the 3th book.
I feel like there are still some issues, so I'll start with that.
- It really felt strange that the necklace and our main character were acting like such close friends. Did I miss something? It was like they only just met in the first book? And after introducing them like such good friends... you like rarely hear about the necklace again....
- The story about the elves and humans is lacking a lot of background. The writer tells us how extra ordinary it is for them to work along, that it hasn't been always that way. But we don't have a clue what happend in the past, what the struggle was... so I can not see or feel the grandness for them to work together. (or I really missed something again?)
Also some troubles with interaction between people. Actually, that's the thing that bugs me the most...

This is a second book in Legends of Marithia series. The story picks up where it finished in first book. This series is about world Marithia and all its creatures which are fighting against forces of darkness. There is a war and the story follows how both sides prepare for it and also we found out the history of characters and world.
I liked this book, though I had some issues with it. It had good amount of action and also I liked that I've learned more about characters and how they reached the point in which they're now.
Main character Vartan has grown so much since first book and i was really pleased with his change. He got some new powers and became better sorcerer.
We are introduced to some new characters Yuski and Anakari who transformed this book to whole new level. They brought some things to story that i have never expected to happen. We learn a lot about them and their life until they met Vartan.
Also there are a lot more characters that are important for story. Some of them are new and some of them will leave story at the end.
Again i liked the theme and this epic fantasy. First book from this series has introduced me to this genre and i am so grateful to it.

Darkness Rising is the second book of the Legends of Marithia series. The book begins where the first leaves off. If you never read the first book, this review might contain spoilers. You have been warned! Now back to the review. After the attack in the Elven Woods, both sides are nursing their wounds. Vartan was left near dead, but eventually heals to be reunited with Helenia and the Marithians. Kassina was in a similar fate as Vartan. Both sides need to boost up their armies and prep for another war, but a few things happen along the way. There is betrayal, magic, and gods/goddesses.
The story is written in third person, following multiple characters with opening chapter quotes like the first book. Old characters are reintroduced. If you haven’t read the first book in while, you should be fine. There is usually a brief summary of who (and what happened) from the first book to jog your memory. There are also some new characters to meet. Compared to the first book, the second one provides more background to the characters. It helps the reader to relate better to the characters and what drives them. I would, however, liked to see a little more background with Vartan and Helenia’s relationship

There was a lot of prep for the ending battle of the book – such as training and securing resources. The dragons are still my favorite “species” (if this is PC for these groups) in the book. If you like fantasy novels with vampires, dragons, and elves, then you might want to read this book. (But, I suggest reading book 1: Prophecies Awakening first)

Yet another great story from the lands of Marithia. Again we can read about adventures of some interesting characters - old and new (and some renewed).
This book went on with a bit slower pace then the first. It felt like peace before the storm though. There's still plenty of things going on around Marithia. You will never get bored reading this. Each chapter brings something new, surprising and sometimes - they leave you want more. Which obviously means that I can't wait for the next book :) And I keep on wondering who's going to die next :P. Yes, I know it's strange and I would like for all of them to live happily ever after, but there's enough books like that. In this story - we can never be sure who's going to die and when.

This book was given to me by the author in return for a fair and honest review.
Darkness Rising takes up where Prophecies Awakening finished off and it to gallops along at a good pace making it an easy and entertaining read. This novel brings a little depth and back story to the characters and is all the better for it. In true fantasy tradition I have started to care for these characters and look forward to finding out what happens next.
Peter Koevari has added some new characters to the mix, some of whom have some wonderful twists in their tales. My favourite is Anakari but you'll just have to read the book to find out why!
All in all I think this is an author I'll be keeping an eye on, I sense and hope there are great things comng from him, and I'm looking forward to the third installment in this series!

Darkness Rising, the second book in the Legends of Marithia series, has greatly improved upon the writing style and character development from the previous title. I really enjoyed the look into Shindar's background, which actually made me a bit sympathetic towards him. Vartan finally gets to marry the love of his life and I found the relationship between Anakari and Yuski to be rather sweet.
Some interesting plot developments that I was intrigued (and shocked) by were Tusdar being given a choice to kill Aidan and he goes through with it and discovering that Kassina is actually Karven's and Nyamira's granddaughter.
The story ends again with a cliffhanger (with Vartan finding out about Kassina being part dragon) and I am left looking forward to the release of the next book.

If you enjoy Dragons, Vampires, and a magical world this is the book for you.
I was given an ARC copy of the book for participating in proofreading for the author whom I met on Goodreads. Actually read the book twice, was getting a chapter a week for a few months to provide feedback, but then reread it in it's entirety because it was just that good.
This was an amazing sequel. The author breaks the traditional fantasy genre by going to many graphic extremes which as a reader I find very enjoyable, because many books are toned down. There are a handful of main characters that you grow to love, unfortunately not all have a happy ending.
The sequel picks up a few months after the events in the original. We get to see some of our old favorites and a few new faces. Everyone is setting up to take back the old kingdom and the epic battle is the conclusion.
Can't wait for the next installment, a must read for any true fantasy fan.

Book 2 in the Legends of Marithia series is every bit as good as Book 1. I actually enjoyed this portion of the story even more, thanks to the additional details about the characters and events prior to the start of Book 1. The picture becomes more complete for the reader, however you can certainly still enjoy each book as a stand alone novel.
I loved the world the author created...especially Trahoterra, the Island of Dragons. (I know humans aren't allowed there, but maybe an exception could be made?) The characters were still just as intriguing as in the first book and somehow you almost feel empathy towards Shindar and Kassina. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a good fantasy story!

I love that it lived up to the predecessor's story!! It is still as well-written and exciting as the first one. By the way, the uncut and expanded version of this second book will be available soon.
The journey to find the Talonsphere and defeat Shindar and Kassina continues. There are some interesting characters that are added in this book. Like Anakari and Yuski which will pretty much beat Buffy the vampire slayer in the badass department.
Shindar's past gutted me so much since I felt that he had something that he's keeping. It didnt justify everything that he did but this will give us some idea about Why he did it.
The twist in the end will make any reader desperately need the third book just like a person stranded in the desert needs water.

This is a fantastic follow-up to book one. More characters are introduced and I feel deeply for all of them. I’m desperate to find out how each character handles the coming events.
There are even more unexpected twists in this than in book one and I have to say there were some things that I thought there was NO WAY would happen… and then they did.
Excellent fantasy tropes are mixed with originality to create a fun and entertaining read.
You could read this book as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading book one first.
Overall, a great adventure and I’m looking forward to book three.

it'd seem the always old story of evil vs good (and who is who stands to uand how u see the world),but it's kind of a more complex storyline... look at the character of Kassina, yes she's a ruthless sorceress, vampire, who finds pleasure in others' sorrows... but at the same time she fights for her life, for her right to live in Marithia, for her people to have what they deserve... and look, at the the end of the book we even find out that she and Vartan are no different... they both have dragon's blood flowing in their veins! should be this an hint to put aside their old grudges and move on?! it's seems too much a metaphor of today conflicts between two world apparently irreconcilable.

This book is the second in the series and picks up right where the first book left off. The book introduces us to a few new characters and intertwines them with the fates of the original characters. We learn more about the original characters in this book, as some secrets that were kept from them are now revealed.
This is another book that will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next. There are interesting twists and turns and things you didn't see coming which will make you want to read on.

Much better than the first book, although everything seems to happen way to quickly. I don't like how the marriage happened & I didn't find anything more special than a traditional wedding and an elven wedding. Although everything was meant to be fast paced in the midst of a war, it would of been nice if some parts had more bits to it.
I enjoyed reading about Shindar & was actually rooting for him almost.. He has a good character background story. The Wumvarn was pretty badass too, in my opinion.
