a collection of three short stories from Michael K. Rose. This review won't go into much detail to avoid spoilers. I will say that this collection of short stories runs the gamut from historical fiction to science fiction. For me "If I Profane with My Unworthiest Hand" is the best story in the collection with "Inner Lives" coming in a close second. "Mahler's Tenth" was an engaging read and well done but just wasn't my cup of tea.
Overall the collection is definitely worth the price, especially if you liked Rose's previous work "Sleep"
I first discovered Michael Rose when I downloaded his short story SLEEP for free. With my Kindle, I am eating up short stories. When I found Inner Lives, I immediately downloaded it. This is a collection of three shorts, all dealing with the “inner lives” of the characters. All are superbly written, but the title story “Inner Life” is what truly stood out. My favorite of the three, it goes into one man’s dreams and what he encounters is truly fascinating. I liked the idea of “Mahler’s Tenth,” incorporating real people into a fictional setting. "If I Profane with My Unworthiest Hand" is a story of marriage, and what can really happen inside a man’s head. Check out Inner Lives, I highly recommend it.
As a fan of Michael K. Rose, I expect tight and intelligent writing. Inner Lives delivers exactly that, and it does do in a way that further solidifies his place as one of my favorite writers.
This short collection is both smart and thought provoking to the point I was chewing on Rose`s words for a few days after. There are very few writers today who can write in such a way.
Potential here, a bit stiffly written butmthemlast one waste strongest, thes style sounded a bit too much like the Shack or 5 people you meet in heaven but the plots and the mindset were much saner and endearing.
I found a new author to follow. Great book of three well put together short stories. The flow of the stories made it a very quick read. I look forward to reading more from Mr. Rose.
