The circus is in town, and all the citizens are eager to attend the show. But as with most things that happen in Acorn Hill, events at the circus do not run smoothly. When the baby elephant runs away, the calliope player is injured and the circus is on the verge of closing, it is up to the Howard Sisters to save the day. In their small town, life is a three-ring circus with enough excitement for all.
Louise doesn’t present herself very well in this book, not wanting the circus and thinking a man on a motorcycle is no good. This part seemed odd since she said she had never seen anyone on a motorcycle except in movies and the book was set in 2006. Aunt Ethel and her friend Florence are very upset about a circus being in town and someone on a motorcycle staying at the inn. Alice and Jane are excited about the circus and Louise does change her mind and become friends with the man on the motorcycle. The circus is a family run business and is having money problems.
This series about three sisters who turn their Victorian family home into a B&B after the death of their father is one of my favorite series and I enjoy all the books. This book, though, was not one of my favorites.
The featured sister in this one is Louise, the oldest. She interacts with her aging Aunt Ethyl and Ethyl's friend, Florence as they want to take a self-defense course. I must admit that I did not understand Louise's reaction to this and thought it a bit short-sighted.
Another story line involves a circus that comes to town, an event of which the town is not totally supportive. As problems hit the circus threatening its existence, the sisters get involved to see how they can help.
All in all, the book is still a nice story with uplifting themes but just not one of my favorites in this series.
the only thing I liked about this book was a lot of the history facts. other than that I didn't feel like I was reading a grace chapel inn book, the characters we not "themselves" such things like calling ethel aunt instead of auntie, idiosyncrasies existed through out the whole book which just threw the whole tone and setting off.
The circus theme gave this one a different flavor from others in the series I've read. A light read with unfortunately several instances of the Lord's name taken in vain and a pastor who seemed to regard self-help books as a viable alternative to the Christian life.
In this tale from Grace Chapel Inn a circus comes to town. Some of the people of Acorn Hill are prejudice and make false judgements and generalizations about "all circus people." The circus owners are getting older and having physical difficulties, but they don't want to close the circus, all their friends would be out of work. Can the three sisters do anything to help? This was a fun read and it was great to see the older 2 sisters having fun and getting involved in things that would normally be outside their "comfort zone."
Definately not my favorite out of the 18 I have read. I am not a circus fan to begin with but felt the need to read this one just because it is part of the series. The story line was a little to hokey for me, but like all of the others in this series, I do like the scripture verses as they relate to the situations taking place in the story. I will continue on to book 19.
