Although written for an American college audience, this short guide has some useful and pertinent points for anyone undertaking a research paper. The primary focus is on how to develop a question and situate it in relation to the other scholarship within a particular field, with various examples given along the way. I would have liked some detail about the use of primary research (methodologies and methods), although the text is clearly focused on writing papers where no primary data collection occurs. For an audience outside of the American college system, it should be read as a guide that highlights some key general principles and some useful strategies for academic reading, synthesis and writing. The language is clear and accessible for a more general audience that the title would suggest, and it is structured effectively for quick reference.
