While trouble brews, a ring is placed— But evil may have hidden its face. A perfect prince and love's true tale... Show the secrets; we must not fail!
Paige has finally met her Prince Charming. Funny, smart, sweet, and beyond good-looking, Colin is fantastic. By the time he's gotten her phone number, Paige is completely smitten. And he isn't evil, which is definitely a plus. In fact, he seems pretty much perfect. After just a few dates, Colin asks Paige to marry him—and she accepts. The last thing she expects to find out is that not only is Colin really a prince—of a magical kingdom no less—but he's already engaged!
So what else is Prince Perfect hiding? Apparently that there are major dark forces gathering to overtake his kingdom, Tarsina, thereby upsetting the balance of good and evil in the world. The only way Colin can save his realm is to marry a magical being by his twenty-fifth birthday. Which is next week. Enter Paige—and exit Corrine, Colin's real true love. When Leo confirms all this with the Elders, the Charmed Ones kick into high gear. It's off to Tarsina, but will there be a royal wedding...or a royal disaster?
The Charmed ones are put to the moral test. Usually they just have to find the evil demon or witch, etc and vanquish them. This time it’s “Paige, you either get married or hundreds of innocents will die.” It’s not even as simple as just marrying the prince and then fixing everything. No, Prince Colin is in love with another woman who he can’t marry because all the non-magical people in his kingdom will die if he does. Paige will be treated as first, but will always be second in his heart. No woman wants that.
Prince Colin begs Paige and the Charmed ones to at least come with him to his magical kingdom Tarsina and check it out before Paige makes her final decision. They agree and are surprised at what a wonderful place it is. It’s absolutely beautiful and perfect. Piper is dead set against staying because she doesn’t want the Power of Three to be split up. Leo and Phoebe are focused on keeping Paige safe and finding a way around the curse. If the curse plays out the balance of power between good and evil will not be balanced anymore.
Paige is in danger from the Loyalists. The Loyalists believe that the ancient queen’s curse should play out. They want the non-magical beings gone so Tarsina can be pure again. Phoebe and Leo go undercover to find out the leader Sinjin’s plans to hurt Paige.
Paige is living a literal fairytale. She has maidens at the ready, is treated like royalty and is welcomed by the community wholeheartedly. She starts to feel bad because part of her doesn’t want to stay. Another part of her is tempted to stay because in Tarsina the Charmed Ones don’t have to hide their powers. Here they are free to be themselves.
I really liked how this was a moral test. There are still lots of times the Charmed Ones have to use their powers. I really felt for Paige in this story. She had to make several hard decisions that really weren’t fair.
The joys of being a mom impede my getting around to reviewing these books so no it did not take me six days to read this one.
It is probably the first time in quite a while that I have given one of these Charmed tie-in books a rating this high!
A book like this was right up my alley because it had magic and romance and intrigue and curses and princes as well as very snarky Piper. We are in season six territory because Phoebe has her empath powers and it has made her even more of a badass.
This might have been centered around Paige but it showed how close the sisters have become to their half-sister and also Leo getting to be his wonderful optimistic self with a dash of snark he must have picked up from his wife.
Paige is working one of her temp jobs for an eccentric artist who makes sculptures out of things like Ping Pong balls. Knowing that most of the jobs in the past have had a magical reasoning underneath, Paige can't seem to find one until she drops the box of balls and a young man offers to help her.
He is incredibly handsome, charming, funny and sweet. Paige refuses his help but gives the young man, named Colin, her phone number. They go out on a date and then another one once Paige and her sisters are able to make sure Colin isn't a warlock or a demon and even Leo can't help but notice that Paige is crazy about him.
Three dates in, Colin asks Paige to marry him. WOW!!
He does this in a crowded restaurant and Paige believes this is moving just a little too fast despite how wonderful Colin is but that isn't the biggest shock. A young blonde woman comes up to the table and asks how Colin could propose...without telling her. Paige finds out this is Corrine, Colin's...girlfriend!
It grows more complicated than that when Paige flees the restaurant, embarrassed and angry, to have the couple follow her outside before she can orb home. Colin tells Paige that he had to ask a magical being for her hand in marriage to save his kingdom from a curse set to fall on his twenty-fifth birthday.
Colin is not only a prince but a witch and even though he loves Corrine...she is a mortal. One of his ancestors was a queen who did not approve of pure blood magical families marrying mortals so she put a curse on her own family, the ruling family of Tarsina. If the royal heir does not marry someone magical, the mortals of the kingdom will all...die.
Taking the couple to the manor, Paige finds out from Leo that all of this is true. The Elders have informed him that the balance between good and evil magic are in danger and all of that is settling over Tarsina, cloaked to mortals but still very visible in Europe as storms and floods are devastating the continent over Switzerland.
Colin informs them that some of the magical people are still loyal to the old ways and are surely looking forward to Colin not being able to find a bride by then which means the death of many men, women and children which doesn't sit right with any of them. Piper and Phoebe and Leo, however, don't think that Paige should agree to a loveless, arranged marriage.
It is clear that he loves Corrine but Colin is putting his royal duty to his people above their happiness so of course it would be a sore spot for Piper as she and Leo had to fight tooth sand nail to be together despite being a Charmed One and a Whitelighter, respectively. Paige is torn between saving lives and standing in true love's way so Colin asks her and the family to come to Tarsina.
Leaving Wyatt with The Elders, they orb to Tarsina and find it a kingdom of the medieval tradition but modern technology of cable TV and video games where those with magic can use their powers openly. They also meet Colin's parents and while the king is very welcoming, the queen is a little more strict but accommodating. Everyone in the kingdom already believes Paige has accepted the proposal so a ball is thrown to celebrate.
Piper and Phoebe skip it to go about the kingdom since Phoebe can still feel that some are not happy about the curse being broken. They uncover that the loyalists have plans to keep Paige from marrying Colin that may put their sister's life in danger. At the ball, in private, Paige does accept Colin's proposal the second time around.
Orbing home, Paige is determined to find a way to completely remove the old queen's curse so that Colin can be with Corrine by consulting the Book of Shadows. She knows that even if she saves the kingdom now in another twenty-five years, any heir she and Colin may have will have to go through this all over again.
The Charmed Ones and Leo not only have to find a way to completely stop the curse but Piper and Phoebe have to make sure no one hurts their baby half-sister while Paige sees that true love can conquer all.
There are some revelations that may not seem too surprising but a couple of them were actually enough to make my jaw drop while reading. The Queen's Curse is a good balance of light-hearted with a dash of intrigue worth reading and could have been a good episode of the show proper.
I enjoyed this story, it was nice to see them go into a different location and the fairytale aspect was good too. Always like it when outside characters are almost brought in as mains for the story but I did think the antagonists as people weren’t really ‘big’ enough, but then I guess the whole idea here was that the antagonist was the curse rather than a person. But maybe the making of that curse could have been explored.

Pretty good. If you liked the show, you'll like this. There's not much suspense, but it's a quick well written read. I did like the prince and Paige both being willing to put the greater good first.
