In this final installment of the thrilling, edgy Personal Demons series, the battle between Heaven and Hell has become critical, and Frannie Cavanaugh is right at the center of it.
With the help of the powerful angel Gabe and demon-turned-mortal Luc, Frannie has been able to stay one step ahead of the forces of Hell. But when the demons killed Frannie's best friend and destroyed her brother, they raised the stakes. If Frannie wants to keep her family and friends safe, she knows she has no choice but to go on the run.
Their best defense is the power Frannie has been struggling to master, but her attempts to hone her skill go horribly awry. If Frannie doesn't learn fast, the consequences could be devastating--even apocalyptic.

She lives in central California with her husband and two very busy daughters. There is never a time that she can be found without a book in her hand, and she adores stories that take her to new places, and then take her by surprise.
Frannie Cavanaugh’s life hasn’t been the same since millennia old demon, Luc walked into her life – she’s since found out that her father’s a fallen angel making her a Nephilim, she discovered that she has the power to Sway demons, angels and humans to do whatever she wants and she fell in love for the first time. Luc was sent by Lucifer to seduce Frannie in order to send her to hell, he failed to follow through with Lucifer’s orders after falling in love with Frannie. Frannie’s powers and love for Luc turned him human and thus powerless to protect her from demons. Lucifer and his demons are hell-bent on getting Frannie on hell’s side and set out to claim her by any means necessary. Newly human Luc and Frannie’s guardian angel, Gabe try and protect Frannie from Lucifer’s clutches by hiding her in Florida. Unsurprisingly, it’s not very long though before Lucifer and his demons track Frannie down and attempt to manipulate her to their own endgame. The first half of the book is utterly boring (though the second half’s not much better) – Frannie, Luc and Gabriel just lounge around doing nothing apart from angsting over their love life, complaining about their uselessness, moaning about their lack of power, giving each other mixed signals, having childish nightmares, feeling sorry for themselves and occasionally forming half baked plans to defeat Lucifer and his demons. You’d think that a millennia old demon and an angel would get their priorities straight, they know time is running out and that Lucifer’s closing in on them so you’d think they’d spend all their time dedicated to coming up with a plan but oh no they instead spend most of their time thinking about Frannie and longing for her. It’s just ridiculous, what’s the point of bothering to write about characters being in danger from all of hell and its minions only to have the characters forget about their impending doom and instead have them whinge nonstop about their feelings for each other, the author might as well have written a contemporary novel. By far the biggest problem I had with this book was the idiocy that is Frannie Cavanaugh. Frannie is a self pitying, dull, pathetic idiot. She blames herself for every little thing. She acts like Luc is an innocent child and blames herself for putting him in the middle of the war between heaven and hell. The girl is stupid, she conveniently forgets that Luc was the one that dragged her into the whole mess, if it wasn’t for him she would never have been in danger in the first place. She doesn’t take into consideration that Luc’s no innocent bystander and that he was in actual fact a millennia old demon who did terrible things and hurt countless people. The idiot even blames herself for him sleeping with someone else – when he only had himself to blame, he was a powerful old demon and lived his years surrounded by demons and other immoral, evil creatures so he should have been able to spot a succubus and be able to see through Lilith’s disguise, but like Frannie he was too stupid to notice anything untoward. Frannie really has no common sense whatsoever, knowing that demons are after her and that she and the rest of humanity are in danger, she says nothing when she sees her demon brother in her bedroom. The dolt just writes it off as her mind playing tricks on her, it’s utterly absurd she knows that all of hell’s after her and she also knows her brother hates her yet instead of thinking that the demons have found her she just thinks she’s dreaming and imagining things. Her idiocy doesn’t stop there, she keeps important things from Gabe and Luc, things that could put them all in danger - when another demon finds her, does she tell them -hell no, she just foolishly thinks that the demon won’t hurt her even though he’s hurt her in the past. Her stupidity carries on when she doesn’t think to mention that she’s dreaming about a weird angel that she’s inexplicably drawn to or that a demonic necklace keeps appearing on her neck. Any non stupid person would have divulged that tidbit of information to her protectors especially if the legions of hell were hunting them and if they were specifically told that the necklace and dreams could attract the attentions of hell…but the alarm bells don’t seem to go off in Frannie’s head – she just keeps her mouth shut because she thinks that the necklace, the demons and dreams won’t harm her. With demons hunting her, you’d think she’d stay with her protectors but she stupidly runs off with her demon brother without telling Luc or Gabe. She also fails to notice that every time her brother wants her to do something she suddenly feels gut wrenching pain and guilt, again she doesn’t put 2 and 2 together and realize that he’s making her feel that way so he can get her to do whatever he wants. Her idiocy just doesn’t stop, when she stays with her grandfather she notices that he smells like a demon and that he’s acting strangely – again, knowing demons are after her she doesn’t even think to consider that her grandfather could be possessed by a demon instead she just thinks it’s her bloody imagination. My hatred of Frannie increased tenfold when it’s revealed that Frannie’s no ordinary speshul snowflake she’s the speshulest snowflake in all the land…ugh...Frannie was truly sickening. I was further sickened when God assigns Frannie to be the diplomat between heaven and hell…WTF?? How does it make any sense that the dumbest dumbo that ever was, is the intermediary between heaven and hell...No, just no. The worst thing about Frannie is how she lets Luc treat her like dirt, he talks down to her and is emotionally abuses her for days and then when he deigns to treat her like a human being for all of a minute she’s just oh so grateful that he still wants her. Er hello Frannie...the guy treated like crap and you didn’t even have the dignity and self respect to walk away from him or at the very least demand an apology and warn him never to treat you like dirt again. Luc is an absolute douche, he does what every effing YA hero does – treat the girl he loves with utter contempt and emotionally abuse her because that’s the only way to protect her. Fair enough, if that’s the only way he feels he can protect, by all means do it, but what does the douche end up doing… he turns around and confuses her by giving her hope that he still has feelings for her. What’s the point of giving mixed signals?? his objective was to make Frannie hate him so he proceeds to show her how little she means to him by acting like a bast**rd but then he spoils his own ‘genius’ plan by later acting like he still has feelings for her - so what was the bloody point of him acting like a bast**rd – it just makes me think that he enjoyed emotionally abusing her. What sort of message does this send out to impressionable young girls, that if a guy demeans them and is cruel, that it’s all ok and forgotten as soon as he shows that he’s mildly interested in them. I think a lot of authors make their love interests jerks and make them act hot and cold because that’s the only way they can make them seem dark, tortured and brooding. A good author can create a swoon-worthy love interest without resorting to cheap measures, just look at Tod in the Soul Screamers series, Terrible in the Downside Ghosts series or Clay and Lucas from the Women of the Otherworld series. On a different note, Luc's constant use of the words unholy hell bugged me no end, I hate when characters use repetitive phrases. I abhor Frannie and Luc’s relationship. The relationship seemed largely based on Frannie’s Sway. I honestly don’t think that Luc would be all that interested in Frannie if not for her Sway compelling him to feel things for her. Luc and Frannie have zero chemistry or charm. I couldn’t understand why everyone loved Frannie, she was so blah. I actually wanted Faith to end up with Gabe or Luc, she had more personality and charisma than Frannie. I was disappointed that Gabe thought so little of Faith after she sacrificed herself for him, she deserved a better ending than she got. I’m relieved the series is finally over, I honestly don’t know why I read the whole trilogy – I didn’t like the storyline, the characters or the weak writing. Admittedly, I sometimes find myself wanting to read a rubbish book, I think it’s a bit like a car crash – I just can’t look away. Thankfully my friend lent me the last 2 books, so I didn’t waste much money on this rubbish. I think there are readers that will enjoy this but since I read a lot of YA, it takes more than a cookie cutter blah heroine, a crappy love triangle and a couple of ‘super hawt’ love interests to impress me. I strongly suspect that the author might write a spin off series about one of Frannie’s sisters. God help us all if she does.
BOOK 1 = 3 STARS. BOOK 2 = 4 STARS. BOOK 3.....= AN OVER-WHELMING 5 STARS! 'NOUGH SAID!
PREMISE: This is it, the final battle is approaching. Though she hasn't had long to prepare Frannie better be ready for the ultimate battle between Heaven and Hell. But when she's given an opportunity to change her mind and fight for the other side - which path will she take? Who will win the ultimate battle and what, pray tell, will become of Gabe and dear Luc? All these questions and more answered in this thrilling conclusion.
THOUGHTS: Oh my word wow!!!! This series has literally been the single longest journey of my reading life! I began book 1 in January of 2020 and here I sit have finished the series on January 7, 2023! It's been a 3 year read for me. So what did I think of the conclusion?!? Man! IT COULDN'T HAVE GONE ANY BETTER! It was WAY beyond what I expected and was fully wrapped up by the end of the book with no lingering questions!!!!! (always a plus!). Just a massive Thank you Lisa Desrochers for such an entertaining series!
Just one question....why can't we have a second series where we continue to follow these characters?!?!?
So there were numerous reasons why I didn't like this final book. I never thought I would give this book a three star--well here you go.
In this whole series, Gabe has been my favorite. I fell in love with him the second he came into the picture, and this book ruined everything, every love (or lust) I had for this character. His relationship with Frannie meant more to me than Luc ever did--and Lisa Desrochers blew this up in my face.
Ever since the first book, Frannie has been in love with Luc way more than Gabe. Only problem was, Luc was a demon and Gabe was an angel.
And I have the hots for angels.
Luc was sent to claim Frannie's soul for Hell, and when God found out, She (and yes, I said she!) sent Gabriel to find Frannie and claim her soul for Heaven. But then Luc falls deeply in love with her (YAK!) and Gabe does, too. I figured the whole thing would be with Luc in the end but this book bothered me beyond belief.
Lucifer is trying to convince Frannie to get God to allow him back into Heaven after thousands and thousands of years. Did I believe this? Yes. Was I stupid to? Yes.
Lots of wishful thinking.
And now, Frannie's human-turned-guardian-angel-turned-demon brother, Matt, has totally and completelty evil, and that was never supposed to happen in my opinion.
So in the end, what happened?
Armageddon.
Yes, the Apocalypse.
And when Gabe realizes that Matt traded in Frannie, he goes and beats this sh!t out of Matt. And Gabe was all bloodied, and beaten as well, and...I almost cried. Gabe was my hero until I found out what he was turning into. And you know what that is?
Human.
And he sinned.
And now, my whole picture is ruined. Gabe earned his wings back but will never, and I mean NEVER, be able to see Frannie again, because she is the center of his lust. And he needs to keep his wings. This was what disappointed me the most. I figured even if she doesn't get to be with Gabe and ends up with Luc, I thought they'd make a way for all of them to be happy.
And there wasn't.

Mind-blowing! Gabe is just so damn cute not too mention hot, loveable, sweet, funny.... Well you get the picture!! I can't believe what happened to him there at the end!! Pity! He changed for the best throughut all these books and you watch him get to grips with all of these new emotions and experiences and he ends up fit back to where he was at the beginning! Wow yeah brilliant ending though-not perfect- but yeah.
We finally get to see some 'magic?' and a taste if the gods and goddesses and their powers etc! Everything is kinda revealed and all unanswered questions were finally answered. Good ending-but brilliant series. Sad to see ear story end. It could definitley have gone in for another book or two!
When I read Personal Demons, I had to write a letter to Luc because, well a) I’m a Mundie Mom and b) Demon Boys usually spell trouble. But, Luc was lovely and conflicted and oh, Frannie, I know you know exactly what I’m talking about. And yes, he still spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e.
Katie wrote a letter to your author, Lisa Desrochers, after she finished Original Sin, because let’s face it, Katie was in still in shock at the ending.
I decided to write this letter to you because you are no longer the naïve, young girl we met in Personal Demons. Oh no, Frannie, you are mature and apprehensive and fiercely protective of the ones you love. And Mundie Moms have to love that.
When all Hell, literally breaks loose, you hold your own. Okay quick aside, kiddo. Gabe? Gabe? Gabe! I didn’t expect he’d cause me to tear up. I know why you love him – his protection and safety (okay, and hotness) made me understand the sacrifice he made to stay with you. He spells trouble in an entirely different way.
I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s a Really Bad Guy in the story and the way Lisa presented him quickly made him one of my very favorite antagonists. I have a long list, trust me on this, and he remains near the top. He was untrustworthy and seductive and OMHeavens funny. Yes, in the middle of a holy-heck-what-is-going-to-happen-here scene, I found myself giggling out loud. Be sure to tell Lisa that part because her comic timing was pitch-perfect.
Frannie, may I mention your family? You know how much I love them (and particularly, Grandpa) and there’s a lovely back-story that made everything make so much sense. Again, I have to thank Lisa because she revealed pieces of a puzzle in the midst of an action sequence that didn’t let up, and I got to have that amazing feeling of “OOOOOOH, I get it.”
I need to end this before I give up spoilers (I’ve already edited out a few). I only have one question left – who was the better kisser, Luc or Gabe? Oh, never mind, I think a little demon may have whispered the answer in my ear.
(Aside to MMs: If you love angel-demon mythology (and I know you do), go pick up the Personal Demons series. You guys need to meet Luc, Gabe and Frannie. This summer, turn up the air conditioning and enjoy one hell of a ride.)
I can’t believe I’m actually giving this one less than five stars. After enjoying Personal Demons and Original Sin so much, I was expecting the final book in this series to be amazing. But Last Rite was a let down for me. Almost nothing happened in the first half of the book. Pretty much all Frannie, Luc and Gabe did was obsess over their tragic love lives, which annoyed me. You’d think that with the army of hell after them, they’d have more pressing things to worry about, but nope.
Another let down was Frannie, which I wasn’t expecting. Since the first book, she’s always come off as a pretty strong, intelligent girl and I rarely got annoyed with her. But in Last Rite, the things I liked about her were gone. When she wasn’t obsessing about her love life, she was feeling guilty over everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING! Even things that were not her fault) and making decisions that were ridiculous.
The second half of the book did start to pick up, but then fell flat. Once again, Frannie makes choices that aren’t very wise and trusts people that she should never be trusting. The ending was okay, but not as epic as it could’ve been. Frannie finally makes a choice between Gabe and Luc and I was pretty happy with who she chose, even though I still felt bad for the other guy. That’s what sucks about liking both men.
Last Rite was an okay book, but I felt there could’ve been so much more done with it.

My Thoughts: Just when you think you know where a story is going, BAM, Lisa DesRochers throws ya a curve ball.
We always knew it was going to come down to a battle with King Lucifer…all the revelations leading up to that battle and then what goes down during that “battle” were surprising and “edge of your seat”. There is still so much we don’t know about Frannie…a lot Frannie doesn’t know about herself as we start “Last Rite”. I thought we would see more of Matt and Gabe’s transformation made for some compelling reading. A couple of new characters are introduced to add tension and will become pivotal. And all the talk of King Lucifer and his motivations was really interesting and thought provoking. Ultimately Frannie has to follow her heart and figure out what and who to believe. Which isn’t as easy for her to do as you might think.
From beginning to end, this was a very compelling and enjoyable series. I loved all the characters, especially Luc, Gabe, and Grampa Ed. I’m a sucker for stories of redemption. And while I’m sorry to see it end, just like all really good series, I’m emotionally invested in the characters and look forward to revisiting the books in the future.
I'm not sure how I feel about this finale. I'm really quite torn. I was so freaking frustrated while reading this book. Luc wouldn't open up, but at least he was the only one of the MCs not doing anything overly stupid. Frannie kept lying and hiding things and Gabe didn't even try to keep himself from being changed mortal. I really wanted to throttle Frannie and Gabe. Eventually, I wanted something bad to happen so that they would stop being such idiots.
There's really not too much to say without spoilers other than everyone was really just running around like chickens with their heads cut off and Frannie was influenced by Lucifer so easily it wasn't even funny. I have no idea how Gabe thought his plan would have worked considering how everything played out. I was rooting for Luc the most and when Gabe blamed him for the Mage, I want to slap him. It felt so weird not rooting for the angel because I'm usually Team Angel all the way, but the angels in this book kept pissing me off and most of that was Gabe's fault. I know Frannie's Sway is powerful and all, but he let himself get so tempted that everything went to shit in the last book and basically stayed that w
Not clear on how I feel about the ending except that I'm glad that Gabe ended up where he did in the end. That, at least, was for the best. I suppose Luc and Frannie ended up where they needed to be, too. I don't see how that could have gone any other way. In the end, this wasn't my favorite in the series. I've read some frustrating books where I wanted to practically kill the heroine and still love them, but something about this one didn't really click with me.
Wow this book was crazy, there was so much going on! The beginning was super emo especially with Luc & Frannie, I actually kind of wanted to smack them both for the way they were acting! And it was also super annoying how dependent Frannie was on Gabe. And the worst part is she knew what she was doing to him and she felt bad, but yet she did it anyway! Frannie is quite a frustrating character in this book, but she does some pretty BA things to be honest. She made me really nervous and I thought what she did in the end was really brave. I was satisfied with how everything ended and there were definitely a few things I didn't see coming. I also loved how this book brought in all of the characters in the series and they all played an important part. I felt bad for Frannie becasue she so badly wanted to believe Matt, even though that was clearly a bad idea. I really enjoyed seeing Frannie's sisters come into play, that was a pretty cool reveal. As much angsting as there was in the love triangle I am glad that things worked out. As I have already mentioned I liked the ending and thought it was interesting to think about what may happen in the future with the way things ended up.
I have really enjoyed this series and I would definitely recommend it! Frannie is generally a strong character and the relationship between her & Luc is pretty steamy :)
It's over....and there is a big hole in my heart because of it. The ending couldn't be any more perfect, however, the fact that Daniel is Frannie's guardian angel-ew....it's intriguing. I love the fact that Luc and Frannie get MORTAL bodies, but are IMMORTAL-Meaning that they will be forever and ever, in the same bodies that they fell in love with-that is like the icing of my double chocolate cake! And Gabe, I feel sorry for him because he is a Dominion, yet, I was kinda glad that he was out of the pic-I am 100% going for Luc in this series, and I am glad that Frannie cut the crap and got everything under control on who she actually loves and who she really needs to give up. (Did I mention that I love Luc?) I loved the scenes in this book. Original Sin, book 2 was like sinful...I was like "woah" and y'know what I mean? And in this book...there was barely any sin, no it was all about butt kicking and the story line took another different perspective to it.
Lisa, your writing is in my heart, and I am waiting for your other series. Please tell me you're writing more, because if you leave me like this, I'll cave in.
Thanks for delivering such a BEAUTIFUL-AWESOME-BREATHTAKING-AND-TOTALLY-SPICY-AND-SEXY-ANBD-INTRIGUING-LOVESTORY!

5 stars out of 5 Oh my god! This book just left me speechless, like for real. Okay, so this is the end of one of the best series I've ever read. It made me feel everything, I laughed, cried, gasped, went all crazy and even felt lust lol. So in this last book of Personal Demons; Frannie, Luc and Gabe go on this journey where they have to run away from everything because they are being chased by Hell. I'm gonna be honest, I didn't quite remember what happened in the second book but the more I read the more I remembered what had happened. I can't believe what happened to Matt and then Gabe sorta turning into human and then leaving in the end, it totally broke my heart because I'd fallen for him, he was just beautiful, caring and perfect but he didn't belong with Frannie and we knew it all along. Luc, what can I say? Demon boy, reckless but willing to give everything for his reason of life, Frannie. He's caring but got that vibe of bad boy that make Frannie, and every other girl want him. I really loved this story and even though it left me wanting more to read I liked how things ended. Lisa did such a great job with this trilogy.
Great finale for an a very very very very good series!!
Frannie just kicks some major ass and everything works out in the end. Amazingly well written, I couldn´t put it down, this one is seriously a page turner.
If you haven´t read this series, shame on you...you´re missing on a great story, a unique female lead and of course ubber yummy bad and good boys. You can start the Personal Demons roller coaster with Personal Demons and continue with Original Sin and end this thrilling ride with Last Rite.
Lisa D. did such an amazing job with the last book in the PD series. I was moved to tears with the agonizing exchanges between Frannie and Luc, and every moment they spent apart was like a waste of a second in hell. There were moments where I just wanted to look the other way when Frannie and Gabe got close; he's my pure angel. :) I didn't want him tainted.
Fans of this series will not be disappointed as we come to understand Frannie's power of Sway and what she can do with it. Lucifer bites the dust in the end. Oh the evil! Good shall always prevail!!!
I never thought I could forgive Luc for what he did to Frannie in Original Sin, but his redemption in this final installment is Frannie's saving grace. How their love makes me yearn for a fourth book...the end makes me sad.
All I can say is Lisa D. went out with a bang on this trilogy! Absolute five stars!
OMFGGG SHAME ON ME FOR HAVING BOUGHT THE BOOK OVER A YEAR & A HALF AGO & NOT READING IT OMGGGG THIS ENDING WAS CRAZY AWESOME!! Frannie, Luc & Gabe leave Haden, fighting their way out & Frannie's broken up over Taylor's death as well as Luc's accidental betrayal with Lilith & they're all blaming themselves for something & feel at fault - and now that Luc's mortal & not a demon, he's also powerless. THey go to this beach house place where they meet a friend of Gabe's - Faith - & she's Grigori & she'll help Frannie train & stuff - they've gotta lay low because Hell's going to find them sooner or later. Frannie's also gotta learn how to master her Sway & Gabe's gonna help her with that. Luc thinks he can help Frannie by getting his powers back & the only way to do that is to make her hate him so he'll turn demon again. Frannie has these visions/dreams of a green-eyed boy, ethereal & beautiful & doesn't tell Gabe or Luc. Meanwhile, Gabe's having issues because Frannie's turning him into a human, too - he's got a heart & he feels human emotion & he'll start losing his powers like Luc did. Gabe goes to the Collective & they determine that Lucifer's gonna use Matt & the Mage to find Frannie - Matt's her brother & Gabe's student turned evil - so Mages go into dreams & are black shadowy things & Frannie's seen it in her dreams - she's also still hopelessly in love with Luc, who wants to push her away but can't - in her dream, Frannie sees the green-eyed angel again & he puts a leather strap around her neck with some kind of pendant which is actually an Udjat, the mark of Lucifer himself & it has a part of his essence in it & Gabe wants to use Frannie to lure Lucifer to them & Luc thinks he's insane & wants to get her away from Gabe - Faith takes her to a judo studio & Rhen's there & she fights him & he wants to have an uprising in Hell & he wants her to turn him human but she can't. At the beach house, MAtt shows up, saying MAggie;s in danger from Marchosias & that Lilith's helping him & she freaks the fuck out & thought Gabe had sent someone to protect her family & watch over them & when she confronts him & admits that she's the priority, really, she goes with Matt & he says he's taking her home. Gabe & Luc freak & Frannie had used her Sway on Faith to get past her & they go to her house where they figure is the only place she can show up & everyone's worried - Luc visits Frannie's grandfather Ed & sees a picture of Ed's father & OMGGG it's Gringus, a demon, which explains Frannie's family's gene pool - Grace can repel demons, MAggie's a human Shield, & that makes Frannie half-angel, part human & 1/8th demon - all her siblings are unique because of their parentage OMG - Faith finally tells Gabe that she loves him & that he's the reason she fell & he apologizes, saying he can't love her - Luc encounter Lilith again & she says she'll help him because King Lucifer's obsessed with Frannie & won't want her anymore - Frannie arrives at Ed's house & she thinks she smells brimstone on him for a second & freaks, but chalks it up to nothing - Matt attacks Gabe & Grace repels Matt but then Aaron shows up (& he's always wanted Gabe's job & thought he deserved it & has been holding a grudge) & AARON ATTACK GABE TOO OMG!!! 5 stelle - Recensione qui: http://sparklefrombooks.blogspot.it/2...
Every time a series comes to an end, I feel a bit of sadness. This book had so much in it. It felt like a journey had ended. I mean it utterly made me feel so many emotions. My emotions were pulled in every direction as I was reading this book. Excitement, happiness, OMG moments, sadness and tears at times, surprises that were unexpected.
Books that are truly awesome do this. They make you feel something. What each character does in this book is really fantastic as it is the grand finale so to speak. There are things that make this book special to me.
I really love how both Gabe and Luc both realize that they do love Frannie. Love how Gabe is back in this book and starts to realize that things are not always black and white. He also seems much more powerful and determined than he was in the first two books. I think Gabe even begins to realize that he’s not perfect or completely noble. Somehow he’s made mistakes. He feels like he has to do something.
Also love the conflict that Luc and Frannie have to deal with it in their relationship since the last book just ripped them apart. They both love each other and can’t see it. Luc and Frannie are both noble characters in their own ways. What I love about their relationship is that both of them are hurt and you can see these are two people who care about each other. It’s very evident.
The use of the other angels and Grigori, were excellent. I love how they all help Frannie train in different ways. Like these scenes because Frannie will need it later on in the book. Frannie takes these lessons to heart and starts to practice them. Also like how she worries about her family.
Her family dynamic was interesting. I was so torn about my feelings about her brother, Matt. Liked that he was trying to earn forgiveness and did something really mean and underhanded, yet it was understandable. Also liked the surprised regarding her sisters. I didn’t see that coming. Other characters also made the last 50 or so pages fly by because you were like…what was that or why did you do that.
Overall a great ending to a great series. Maybe there will be a spin off series.
SPOILER ALERT: If you haven't read the first two books in this trilogy this review will contain spoilers.
Last Rite is the perfect ending to the Personal Demons trilogy. Lisa Desrochers tied everything up nicely and I was left with a smile on my face. While I'm sad to say goodbye to the great characters I'm completely satisfied with the way things ended.
Frannie is just as kick-ass as ever but she isn't quite as spunky as she was in the previous books. A lot has happened and grief has made her a more somber person. Seeing her upset so much was a very different side of her. She finally realized that not everything was in her control and it changed her a lot. However she still managed to retain her spark, she just was a bit more mature.
For the first half of the book Luc was a very different guy than he'd been in the past, at least on the outside. He was mean, hurtful, and just didn't seem to care. However that's not what he felt on the inside. It was clear how much Luc loved Frannie and at times I felt so sad for him. He just couldn't figure out what was best for both him and Frannie. Gabe didn't help matters. He is a very different Gabe from the first two books. He's still kind and caring but he's become more interested in beating Lucifer than in protecting Frannie. Also, his feelings for Frannie really came out in this book. I like Gabe but, no matter what, I've always been and always will be Team Luc.
Now there were some cliffhangers from the previous two books but I'm happy to say they were all tied up. Readers get to find out more about Frannie's family, including Matt, as well as what Frannie's true purpose really is. Some things didn't come as huge surprises but there were definitely some things I didn't see coming.
As for the plot, it's a little slow to pick up but the second half of the book is non-stop surprises and action. It definitely made up for the first half which was more talk and build-up. Honestly, it's impossible to be bored with these books.
Overall, Last Rite is everything readers could want. I can't wait to see what Lisa Desrochers does next.
I was incredibly lucky to win the last ARC of Last Rite from Lisa Desrochers herself many months ago now and I immediately devoured the book in one sitting. I’m a HUGE fan of this book series and it goes without saying that if you haven’t read Personal Demons or Original Sin, please go no further as you will encounter spoilers.
If you’re still with me, you’ll know that this is the last book in the trilogy which makes it a bittersweet reading experience. I mean, I was dying to know what happened but desperate for it not to end at the same time. Luc had me from his very first line in Personal Demons and I’ve loved him ever since.
Last Rite picks up exactly where Original Sin left off with Frannie, Luc and Gabe on the run from Lucifer and his minions. Lucifer wants Frannie and will stop at nothing until he has her so that he can use her sway to his own end. Everyone is lying in order to save each other and at times, you’ll want to knock their heads together. Gabe is becoming human, Luc is frustrated at still being human as it renders him helpless and Frannie would probably like to be just human at this point! In the midst of everything, Lucifer manages to trick Frannie into going home and then the mother of all showdowns comes into play. A lot of authors joke about killing off their characters and how “everyone dies in the end”. It’s kind of not far from the truth but in a book about heaven and hell, it’s not necessarily being dead that matters but what side you’re on ;)
Prepare to laugh, cry and generally be a mess by the end of this book. Last Rite if full of angst and incredible tension with nonstop action and a sense of profoundness. With one of the best endings I’ve ever read, this book will give you ALL THE FEELS and then some. I’m gutted to see the end of this series and I’m still hoping that Lisa might revisit it one day but in the meantime, I want to say thank you to her for writing the story as I’ve loved every minute of it.
I read the first two books in this trilogy last year, in fairly quick succession. I read the first book a week or two before BEA and was full of hope that I'd be able to get book two at BEA, saving me from having to wait a few extra weeks to read it. (I was not that lucky.) Fast forward to now, a year later. I still love this series, one of the most fun paranormal YA offerings in recent memory. I love Frannie and her two potential boyfriends, Luc (short for "Lucifer," a guy who used to be a demon but who was redeemed by his love for Frannie) and Gabe (as in "Gabriel," an angel who also has feelings for Frannie...and whose feelings are also returned). This is one of those love triangles where either guy is a good one and without telling you who she ultimately chooses, it was a good decision on her part.
And while I love Frannie, wow, she was stupid in this book. Any time there was a decision to be made, if one was smart and the other dumb, she would always pick the dumb one. Every time. But even so, it's hard not to love Frannie.
I'm not entirely sure I think the ending for the trilogy (as in the actual ending, not the resolution for the love triangle) was a good one; it seems a little bit unlikely. But it also didn't dampen any of my enthusiasm for this book in particular or the series in general. (And I really want people to read it so I can discuss that.)
This is a ridiculously fun series and I'm incredibly sorry that it's over. Recommended.
My dislikes (said briefly): 1. I find Frannie acting like an idiot throughout a large chunk in the middle. 2. Luc goes back and forth from being lovley and charming to trying to get Frannie to hate him (make up your mind please). 3.A random character who I was starting to like and wanted to get to learn more about dies. The sisters are both helpful and not really. By this I mean they have potential but hardly ever get to use it. I would have loved to lear more about them as well. 4. Gabes ending. Which once you read the book speaks for itself. 5. Matt & Lilith's endings which I don't really know. I'm not positive what happens to them. *message me if you do, please*
My Likes (also said briefly): 1. The action is great. 2. Drama is wonderful. 3. The romance is endearing. 4. Luc and Gabe are Awesome. 5. Frannie's family is amazing in a sticking up for one another and generally being magical way. 6. The twist and turns, wording, and rotating POVs are all super fabulous and fantastically done. 7. Frannie & Luc's ending.
Good book, Amazing trilogy.

Atlast...i got a chance to read and finish this book and i enjoyed the last series fully..
Frannie is with Luc and Gabe away from family in a safe place...is it?Nope bcoz who they all want to avoid the most is messing with Fannie's mind and is confusing her more than ever... Luc is determined to save Frannie even if costs hating her and Gabe wants to save her even though that means him turning mortal.. And Frannie is sucked in the mysterious nightmares,a green eyed angel who promises her to keep safe, luc's hate-love,gabes need, her family and friends safety and to all above how the hell can she use her 'Sway' and whose side is she Heaven or Hell?Or both? I totally loved reading it..it has all the twists and turns, adventure and a conclusion i soo wanted for all of them though it means a loss of some life's and changes in others life..(Gabe...!!Aww...i was so sad for him but happy for Luc and Frannie!)
Lisa Desrochers ...Excellent series and i am so gonna miss Frannie,Luc n Gabe :( Sri.
Last Rite picks up immediately following the events of Original Sin, sparing us barely a moment to take a deep breath before we’re launched into the middle of the ongoing battle between Heaven and Hell. Those who may be a little foggy on the details of book two may want to consider rereading the concluding chapters at the very least, as Ms. Desrochers spends very little time reintroducing characters and events, instead focusing on moving things forward at a lightning-quick speed that leaves us floundering a bit to catch up. The extremely quick pace stems not simply from physical action, but from constant emotional upheaval as well, things with both Gabe and Luc on extraordinarily unstable ground that proves only to get rockier as Frannie’s predicament becomes more dire, and though we may stumble at times when temporary confusion plagues us, we can’t deny being riveted to the pages wondering how things will play out...
The characters didn't really evolve for my liking. It actually felt like they moved backwards instead of forward. The love triangle, turned into, a love disaster, really. And I was extremly unhappy about it. I also kept rolling my eyes at so much "It's all my fault, I have to stay away from everyone" coming from all the characters and I mostly kept reading, cause I wanted this to be over already. I thought there was gonna be some growth in this book. That something was gonna change and WOW me like I was hoping in the previews books. But instead, I liked this one even less. Pitty really. Maybe I'll give the authors next book a try to see if there's hope for me ain liking more her stories =)
