This encyclopedia of Symbolist painters and illustrators was subsequently reprinted in English, but the fantastic thing about this edition is the tipped in color plates and the lack of binding. The "signatures" are actually single folded sheets of heavy stock contained in a hardcover folio and slipcase. This allows the reader to remove any page and contemplate the plates in isolation, with no distortion from a bound edge. The color is excellent and there are some unusual choices for full page reproductions. Still glad I lugged this home from Paris ages ago.
