✨Review time✨ - The Essential Dog Book
I've had this book for quite some time, I bought it when I was younger and just adopted a puppy. Now I just went through it to look at cute dogs, and among many, many, many mistakes there are some good boys here.
This is a guide book for how you should train a puppy, as well as what breed should suit you the best. I find some fault with both of these. Some of the treatment in this book I would consider inhumane, but even then much of this is so focused on pure bread dogs it's kind of hard to read sometimes. Like the book specifically tells you not to pick puppies based on which one you find the most charismatic or which one you prefer, but based on which one fits the best within some prescribed nature of that breed, so it can be shown off at competitions.
The book seems too focused on raising dogs just to go on competitions with them. The descriptions aren't the best as they seem to repeat the same things for many dogs, and fail to really give you enough detail to select the one best suited for you. Some of the descriptors are even pretty weird, like calling dogs attractive, or submissive as a plus for the dog in the picture provided.
Lastly, I'd like to talk about the translation, as I've read this in Slovak.

The person translating this had a very surface level understanding of english. Some words are incorrectly translated, or rather directly translated ignoring the semantic meaning of the word. Some words are longer in Slovak and the translator or editor does nothing to prevent them ending up inside the pictures. Some words are just straight up missing, for example the Miniature Pinscher, only has the word miniature in the title. Some breeds are translated on the top of the page, but then the original english word is used in the rest of the text. I cannot imagine how confused someone who doesn't speak both languages would be reading some parts of this book.
So, nice dog pictures but this is hardly worth buying. I'm sure there are better guidebooks out there at this point and I would strongly recommend against getting this one.
