Wow.
I loved it. Most of the time, the behavior of drug addicts in stories is described with violence but in Gradation it is described differently. It just showed that some are willing to go to extremes just to get their fix of the drug. The atmosphere is very flat and indifferent, like the character in the story who does not seem to care about anything except getting high immediately.
