Benyamin (born 1971, Benny Daniel) is an Indian novelist and short story writer in Malayalam language from Nhettur, Kulanada, Pattanamtitta district of the south Indian state of Kerala. He is residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain since 1992, from the age of twenty, and his works appear regularly on Malayalam publications in Kerala.

Seriously I think the rating should have provision to mark 1/2. I wanted to give only 3.5 stars. I should say the book is a real thriller and a page turner for the first 95%. It took me only two nights to cover up this much. But in the last 5% author takes the novel to somewhere, and he leaves us with lots of unanswered questions and mysteries. The main thread of the book, which is a sort of investigation itself is left unanswered, so that readers can guess. But the first half is really really thrilling. Only thing lacking is a good climax.

ഞാൻ വായിച്ചതിൽ വച്ച് ഏറ്റവും നല്ലൊരു ത്രില്ലെർ തന്നെയാണ് "മഞ്ഞവെയിൽ മരണങ്ങൾ"....ദീഗൊ ഗർസിയ -യെ കുറിച്ച് നല്ലൊരു ചിത്രം മനസ്സില് വരച്ചു തന്നതിന് ഒത്തിരി നന്ദിയുണ്ട്....എങ്കിലും ഒന് പറയാതിരിക്കാൻ വയ്യ അവസാനം ക്രിസ്ടി അന്ത്രപ്പെറിന്‌ എന്ത് സംഭവിച്ചു എന്നു അറിയാൻ കഴിയാത്തതിൽ ഒത്തിരി ദുഃഖം ഉണ്ട്...

There is nothing more frustrating than a work of art in the form of a book or a movie which fizzles out in the end. All that it leaves is a very bad taste in the palate of my mind and a rather inexplicable feeling of being cheated ! Hours and hours of walking down an alley way which finally leads to a dead end and so forth are other possible explanations of this phenomena. These will sum up this book. The author is best known for one of the most poignant works of late but fails to deliver with this one. Not that I have a habit of comparing two works by an author, but this was an unavoidable line in this review.

The name of the novel in my words translates to Deaths in the yellow sunlight which I do admit is a somewhat lame translation. But that was the best I could think of. The plot is fragmented into two : The first is the story of Christy Anthraper and of the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and of the unfolding of a murder mystery. Interleaved with this story is a plot line where the author himself is a character and along with a bunch of like minded friends, embarks upon a journey to unravel the mysteries of the character of Christy. As befits a mystery, the buildup is very effective with not many clues dropped anywhere and of the vehicle of the plot being steadily on track for the first 60% of the story line. It is from here that the plot steadily deteriorates and then crashes into some thickets by the way side. The story meanders into tales of the history of the island, myths of early Christianity and from there on it travels to terrains which have absolutely nothing to do with the main story. The outcome of all this is that as the story neared its end, I had stopped caring for the characters or the circumstances. And as far as my intuitions went, there were no surprises in store for me either in the form of revelations or plot twists.

Started with a bang and ended with a whimper. Amen !

ഫ്രാൻസിസ് ഇട്ടിക്കോരയും, ഡാവിഞ്ചി കോഡും ഒക്കെ നേരത്തെ വായിച്ചത് കാരണം മഞ്ഞവെയിൽ മരണങ്ങളിൽ ഒരു വ്യത്യസ്തത അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടില്ല. കാരണം ആ രണ്ട് പുസ്തകങ്ങളിലേയും പല സന്ദർഭങ്ങളുമായി ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിന് സാമ്യം തോന്നുന്നു.
1. മറിയം സേവ - കോരക്ക് കൊടുപ്പ് - ഫ്രാൻസിസ് ഇട്ടിക്കോര
2. വല്യേടത്ത് വീട് - പതിനെട്ടാം കൂറ്റുകാർ - ഫ്രാൻസിസ് ഇട്ടിക്കോര
3. തോമാരാജാവിന്റെ അനന്തരവകാശികൾ ഇപ്പോഴും ജീവിക്കുന്നു = യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പരമ്പര ഇപ്പോഴും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. - ഡാവിഞ്ചി കോഡ്

ഇതൊന്നും പോരാണ്ട് പരിണാമത്തിലുള്ള പോലെ ലേഖകനും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളും ചേർന്നൊരു കുറ്റാന്വേഷണവും. ആകെ മൊത്തത്തിൽ ഒരു സസ്പെൻസ് ത്രില്ലർ ഫീൽ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും, പറഞ്ഞ് കേട്ട് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചതിന്റെ അടുത്ത് പോലും എത്തിയിട്ടില്ലെന്നാണ് എന്റെ അഭിപ്രായം.

ബെന്യാമിന്റെ 'ആടുജീവിതം' വായിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞ് കയ്യിൽ കിട്ടിയ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഒന്ന് രണ്ടു ബുക്കുകളിൽ അനുഭവപ്പെട്ട വിരസത, ആ എഴുത്തുകാരനെ തുടർന്നു വായിക്കാൻ ഒരു താൽപര്യക്കുറവുണ്ടാക്കിയിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഒരു പരീക്ഷണാർഥമാണ്‌ 'മഞ്ഞവെയിൽ മരണങ്ങൾ' വായിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങുന്നത്‌. എന്റെ മുൻവിധികളെയെല്ലാം മാറ്റിമറിച്ച്‌, നിലത്തുവയ്ക്കാതെന്നവണ്ണമാണ് ഞാൻ അത് വായിച്ചവസാനിപ്പിച്ചത്. ആദ്യന്തം തുടർന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്ന ജിജ്ഞാസയാണ് ഇൗ നോവലിനെ വേറിട്ടു നിർത്തുന്നത്. മലയാളത്തിലെ പല അപസർപ്പക നോവലുകളിൽ നിന്നും വ്യത്യസ്തമായി അധികം നാടകീയത ഒഴിവാക്കിയാണ് ബെന്യാമിൻ ഇത് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും. എന്നാൽ അസംഭവ്യമെന്ന് തോന്നാവുന്ന പലയിടങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടു കൂടി, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ എഴുത്തിന്റെ മിടുക്ക് അതിനെ തീർത്തും വിശ്വാസനീയമായ ഒന്നാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നു.

ബെന്യാമിനും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളും ചേർന്ന് നടത്തുന്ന അന്വേഷണങ്ങളും ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേരിന്റെ കഥയും ഒന്നിച്ച് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒരിടത്തു പോലും വായന തടഞ്ഞില്ല. അല്ല, രണ്ടും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോകാൻ ബെന്യാമിന്‌ അനായാസം കഴിഞ്ഞു എന്നു തന്നെയാണ് പറയേണ്ടത്. ഒരു പക്ഷെ സങ്കീർണ്ണമാവേണ്ടിയിരുന്ന ഒരു സ്റ്റോറി ലൈൻ വളരെ ലാഘവത്തോടെയാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. ഇത്തരമൊരു വിഷയം ഇത്ര ലളിതമായി, ആസ്വാദ്യമായി പറയാൻ കഴിയുന്ന എഴുത്തുകാർ മലയാളത്തിൽ കുറവാണെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു.

ടി. ഡി. രാമകൃഷ്ണന്റെ 'ഫ്രാൻസിസ് ഇട്ടിക്കോര'യോട് ഇൗ കഥയിലെ ചില മിത്തുകളുമായി സാമ്യം തോന്നിയെങ്കിലും സംശയം കൂടാതെ പറയാം, 'മഞ്ഞവെയിൽ മരണങ്ങൾ' തീർച്ചയായും അതിലും ഏറെ മുന്നിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകം തന്നെ.
അവതരണത്തിലും ഭാഷയിലും കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ സംഭാഷണ ശൈലിയിലും ഒക്കെ വല്ലാത്ത റിയലിസ്റ്റിക് സ്വഭാവം ഇതിനുണ്ട്.
വായിച്ചു തീർത്ത് ഉടനെ സെർച്ച് ചെയ്തതും ഇൗ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ യാഥാർത്ഥ്യമാണോ എന്നാണ്. ഫിക്‌ഷൻ എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്ത വിധം അത്ര സ്വാഭാവികതയാണ് ഇതിനുള്ളത്.

കഥാന്ത്യം നിരാശപ്പെടുത്തി എങ്കിലും നല്ലൊരു ത്രില്ലെർ വായിച്ചതിന്റെ സന്തോഷം അവസാന പേജുകളിൽ ബാക്കിയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അനുബന്ധത്തിലോ അതിനു ശേഷമുള്ള ഒന്നു രണ്ടു പേജുകളിലോ എങ്കിലും ഇതിന്റെ അവസാനമുണ്ടാകാണേ എന്ന ആഗ്രഹത്തോടെയാണ്‌ പേജ്‌ മറിച്ചത്. പക്ഷെ, ഉത്തരം കിട്ടാത്ത ഒരുപാട് നിഗൂഢതകളുടെ നടുവിലാണ് ഇൗ പുസ്തകം ഒടുവിലത്തെ വരികൾക്ക് ശേഷവും വായനക്കാരനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് നിർത്തുന്നത്. കഥ തുടങ്ങുമ്പോൾ ഉള്ള ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇരട്ടി മറു ചോദ്യങ്ങളുമായാണ് ബെന്യാമിൻ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും.

എന്നാൽ,
" നോവലിലുള്ള ഒരു കഥാ പാത്രത്തെ നോവലിന് വെളിയിൽ പോയി അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതും പിന്നീടയാൾക്ക് എന്ത് സംഭവിച്ചു എന്ന് ആധി പിടിക്കുന്നതും ശുദ്ധ ഭോഷ്‌കത്തരമാണ്. ഫിക്‌ഷന്റെ പൂർത്തീകരണത്തിന് വേണ്ടി നിർമിക്കപ്പെടുന്നവരാണ് കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ. അത് കൊണ്ട് അവർ റിയൽ ആണെങ്കിൽ പോലും ഫിക്‌ഷന്‌ വെളിയിൽ കടന്ന് റിയലിനെ അന്വേഷിക്കണ്ട കാര്യമില്ല. അതിന് ചിലവ് വഹിക്കേണ്ട ബാധ്യതയും എഴുത്തുകാരനില്ല."
എന്ന നിക്ഷ്പക്ഷ നിലപാടിലാണ് ബെന്യാമിൻ.

പക്ഷെ എന്തുകൊണ്ടോ, ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേർ എന്ന കഥാപാത്രം വായനക്കാരുമായി ഉണ്ടാക്കിയെടുത്ത മാനസിക അടുപ്പം കൊണ്ടാവാം, അയാളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വ്യഥ അവസാന പേജുകൾക്കിപ്പുറവും കേൾവിക്കാരനെ അലട്ടുന്നത്. അതാണ് ബെന്യാമിന്റെ വിജയവും.

Still confused about what really, happened to our protagonist and to all the main characters in the book!!! Feels like an incomplete story.

Manjaveyil Maranangal is a suspense thriller from Benyamin, and I picked it up after getting thoroughly hooked by aadu jeevitham. It follows two tracks- the first one of a group of literary enthusiasts when benyamin receives a manuscript copy of an intriguing story from a stranger through mail, and the second one, the story itself..

The manuscript contains an autobiographical narrative of the strange incidents that occur in the life or Christy Andrapper, the youngest member of the Andrapper family in Diego Garcia. He finds his old classmate shot dead in the middle of the street, and a day later, the public security, doctors, newspapers - everything seem to ignore the news. The boy's parents are informed that he died of a cardiac arrest. The manuscript ends after sparking intrigue in the hearts of the group, and they start following the clues in it to get the rest of the manuscript. The story switches between the narrative in the manuscript and the attempts of the group to get hold of the subsequent parts, which have been distributed to multiple people and can be located by only following the clues left in the previous part.

There has been significant amount of research that has gone into Deigo Garcia, Ancient Christianity in Kerala and Mariam Seva- something that can be likened to black magic. Manjaveyil Maranangal starts off getting you interested, throws you into a thick fog of confusion, keeps you a little too long there to run the risk of generating disinterest, and then gathers insane pace in the last 150 pages to such an extent that the book becomes unputdownable.

And where the book scores to me is the way the author doesn't insult the intelligence of the reader by providing a fairy tale ending. Benyamin proves his class by not providing a celluloid style hunky dory or tragic ending in this book.

Highly recommended.

My dad gave me this after his read with a smile saying he got a friend by title characters surname. I opened the book to see the story happening at Udayemperoor, a place nearby and familiar. With this reading premise, I found the book a clever and intriguing thriller, where facts and places were delightfully muddled into a fever dream of words.

Benyamin might be a fan of weird fiction, the story inside a story, open ending and unreliable account makes the reader question the fictional reality in this uncanny fiction, while trying to extract the actual one. For example, the surname is a real one, so is Diego Garcia, the supposedly fictional Island/atoll on which author made his story on, and the premises of the church and practices similar to the ones mentioned. Author smartly slips himself and his friends group into the periphery story as the ones who search and unfolds the inner one. And even during that, he upholds full deniability till the end, the explanation to which can only involve spoilers. This makes the narrative a bit fever dream-ish, where the fictional embellishments given to real things makes you question the line between both. There are some lingering issues as well, questions unanswered, too easy and convenient coincidences, overly friendly and helping fellows. At least he isn't running away from them like King in 11.22.63 saying 'some coincidences in real life are stranger than that in fiction'. Not an exact quote, but more or less.

Hope this book gets more love, hopefully some translated love among International readers. This soft detective speculative fiction is definitely a reco from me, but be prepared to ignore some open ends.

ಕತೆಯೊಳಗೊಂದು ಕತೆ ,ಇತಿಹಾಸ.. ಅಪರಿಚಿತನೊಬ್ಬನ ಕೊಲೆಗೆ ಅವ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ... ಇನ್ನೂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಆದರೆ ಹುಡುಕಿ ಹೋದರೆ ಹಾಗೊಂದು ಘಟನೆ ನಡೆದದ್ದೇ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಎಂದು ಅವರ ವಾದ.. ಅವ ಸತ್ತಿದ್ದು ಹೃದಯಾಘಾತದಿಂದ ಎಂಬುದು‌ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮಾತು. ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸತ್ತವ ಇವನ ಕ್ಲಾಸ್‌ಮೇಟ್. ಎಷ್ಟೋ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಮೊದಲು.
ಅವನ ಕೊಲೆಗೂ ಇವನ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೂ ಏನು ಸಂಬಂಧ? ಇವನ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೂ ಕೇರಳದ ಮೊದಲ ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ತಲೆಮಾರಿಗೂ ಏನು ಸಂಬಂಧ? ಇದಕ್ಕೂ ವಾಸ್ಕೋಡಗಾಮನಿಗೂ ಏನು ಸಂಬಂಧ?
ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಕಾದಂಬರಿಕಾರನಾಗಲು ಹೊರಟ ಇವ ಲೇಖಕನ ಜೊತೆ ಯಾಕೆ ಕಣ್ಣಾಮುಚ್ಚಾಲೆ ಆಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ?

ಆರಂಭ ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ನಂತರ ಬಸವಳಿಯುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಮುಗಿಸಿದಾಗಲೂ ಪಝಲ್‌ನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪೀಸ್‌ಗಳು ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಿಗಬೇಕೂ ಅಂತ ಏನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
ಬಹುಶಃ ಅನುವಾದದ ಗುಣವೊ ಏನೋ ಪದಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಚದುರಿಕೊಂಡಿವೆ.

ಓದಬಹುದು.
ಒಂದು ದ್ವೀಪಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೋದ ಅನುಭವ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ದಣಿವೂ ಕೂಡ!

വായിച്ചു തീരുമ്പോൾ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഒരുപാട് ബാക്കിയാണെങ്കിലും ഡീഗോയും അന്ത്രപ്പേരും സെന്തിലും അൻപും മെറിനും കുറച്ചു ദിവസത്തേക്കെങ്കിലും ചിന്തയിൽ കൂടെ കൂടും .

അതിലുപരി ഡീഗോ യിലുള്ളവർ എങ്ങനെ വൻകര കാണാൻ കൊതിക്കുന്നുവോ , അതിനപ്പുറം വൻകരയിലുള്ളവരെ ഡീഗോ ഗാർഷ്യ കാണാൻ കൊതിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തരം മാന്ത്രികത വാക്കുകളിലൂടെ എഴുത്തു കാരൻ നിറച്ചു വച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു!

The gripping, suspense packed story line is certain to hold every readers attention. Every chapter ends with additional suspense and the story never loses the pace. There are moments of love, sorrow, loss, action, mystery and darkness that leaves the reader craving for more, and turn the pages anticipating answers. The story however ends leaving a lot of questions unanswered in the readers mind, the prime one being, was Christy Antraper a real or fictional character, what really happened to Melvin, who was really behind the murder of Christy’s classmate and what finally happened to Christy and his family. While Christy and his story continues to haunt me with these questions days after finishing the book, I am not yet done researching for more information on the much fabled ancient Christian practice of “Mariam Seva” – Myth or real – only time will tell.

മലയാളത്തിൽ ഒരു അപസർപ്പക കഥ വായിക്കണമെന്ന വളരേ നാളത്തെ മോഹമാണ് ഈ നോവൽ വായിച്ചപ്പോൾ പൂവണിഞത്.

സെന്തിൽ എന്ന ഒരാളുടെ മരണത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് കഥയുടെ തുടക്കം. സെന്തിലിന്റെ മരണം അന്വേഷിച്ചു തുടങ്ങുന്ന ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേർ.

അന്വേഷണങ്ങളും, കണ്ടുപിടിക്കലും വളരെ രസകരമായിട്ടുതന്നെ കഥാകാരൻ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പക്ഷെ കഥ തീർന്നുകഴിയുമ്പോൾ, ���ഹസ്യം അറിഞ്ഞുകഴിയുമ്പോൾ, ഒരു നൈരാശ്യം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നുറപ്പാണ്. മലയാളത്തിൽ നല്ലൊരു ഡിറ്റക്‌ടീവ് കഥ വായിക്കണമെന്ന മോഹം തീരാമോഹമായിട്ടുതന്നെ അവശേഷിക്കുന്നു.

ഒരുപാട് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ബാക്കി വച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ് നോവൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്. അത് ഒരു പോരായ്മ ആയി എനിക്ക് തോന്നുന്നു. നല്ല ഒരു സസ്പെൻസ് ത്രില്ലർ ആണെങ്കിലും ചില്ല ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ ഇട്ടികോരയും ആയി സാമ്യം തോന്നി. മൊത്തത്തിൽ ഒരു നല്ല page turner എന്ന് വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാം.

This is a clever whodunnit plot written as a novel within a novel, with Benyamin himself playing one of the principal characters driving the plot, in search of a mysterious person who keeps giving him various links of his novel. There are hidden histories covering the place, Christianity in India, cryptic clues and numerous plots regarding a missing man and his murder investigation. A quick breezy read but not a very satisfying one.

കഥക്കുള്ളിൽ കഥകളുള്ള നോവലാണ് 2011 ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച 'മഞ്ഞവെയിൽ മരണങ്ങൾ'. ഇന്ത്യൻ മഹാസമുദ്രത്തിലെ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഇന്ത്യൻ ഓഷ്യൻ ടെറിട്ടറി (BIOT) യുടെ ഭാഗമായ ഡീഗോ ഗാർഷ്യ എന്ന ദ്വീപ് ആണ് കഥയുടെ പ്രധാന പ്ലോട്ട് .കൂടാതെ കേരളവും ചെന്നൈയും പോണ്ടിച്ചേരിയും കഥയുടെ ഭാഗമായി വരുന്നുണ്ട്.

ഇപ്പോൾ നാലായിരത്തോളം മാത്രം ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള ചെറിയ ഒരു ദ്വീപാണ് ഡീഗോ. അവിടത്തെ പ്രധാനകുടുംബമായ അന്ത്രപ്പേർ കുടുംബം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്കു മുൻപ് ഇന്ത്യൻ വൻകരയിലെ പോണ്ടിച്ചേരിയിൽ നിന്നും കുടിയേറിയവരാണ് . പോർച്ചുഗീസുകാരും ഫ്രഞ്ചുകാരും അവസാനം ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരും ഭരണം കയ്യാളുന്ന ദ്വീപ് ഭരിക്കുന്നത് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട ചാൻസലറാണ് .

എഴുത്തുകാരനാവാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു വൻകരയിൽ വന്നു മലയാളത്തിൽ ഗ്രാജുവേഷൻ എടുത്ത ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേർ, തൻ്റെ സുഹൃത്തായിരുന്ന സെന്തിലിന്റെ കൊലപാതകത്തിൻറെ ചുരുളഴിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങളും അതിനെത്തുടർന്നുണ്ടാവുന്ന സംഭവവികാസങ്ങളുമാണ് നോവലിൻറെ ഇതിവൃത്തം. കാലങ്ങൾക്കു ശേഷം അവിചാരിതമായി കണ്ടുമുട്ടുന്ന ജസീന്ത എന്ന സ്ക്കൂൾ സുഹൃത്തിനോട് കോഫീഷോപ്പിൽ സംസാരിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ കാണുന്ന ഒരു വെടിവെപ്പും ആ വെടിവെപ്പിൽ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടത് അവരുടെ തന്നെ ക്ലാസ്മേറ്റായിരുന്ന സെന്തിലാണെന്നു അറിയുന്നതുമാണ് ക്രിസ്റ്റിയുടെ ജീവിതം വഴിതിരിക്കുന്നത്. അതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് ക്രിസ്റ്റി നടത്തുന്ന അന്വേഷണങ്ങൾ ഫലം കണ്ടുവോ എന്നു വായനക്കാർക്ക് നിശ്ചയിക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ലെങ്കിലും ഉടനീളം സംഭ്രമജനകമായ കുറ്റാന്വേഷണരൂപത്തിലാണ് കഥയുടെ ഗതി .

തനിക്ക് ഇഷ്ട്ടപ്പെട്ട എഴുത്തുകാരനായ നോവലിസ്റ്റിനു email ആയി അയച്ചു കൊടുത്ത സ്വാനുഭാവങ്ങളുടെ ആദ്യഭാഗത്തിൽ നിന്നും എഴുത്തുകാരനും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളും അടുത്ത ഭാഗങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതിലും അത്യന്തം അവിചാരിതകളും ആശ്ചര്യതകളും വൈചിത്ര്യങ്ങളുമുണ്ട്.കഥാന്ത്യം നോവലിസ്റ്റും സംഘവും ആ ഭാഗികാനുഭവങ്ങളുടെ തുടർച്ചയ്ക്കു ശ്രമിക്കുന്നുമുണ്ട് .

ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ സഭകളിലെ വൈവിദ്ധ്യങ്ങളും ആചാരങ്ങളിലെ പ്രാദേശികമായ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കലുകളും അതിൻറെ ചരിത്രപശ്ചാത്തലവും കഥയുടെ ഭാഗമായി വരുന്നുണ്ട്.

സെന്തിലിനെ കൊന്നതാര്, അതിനുള്ള കാരണം,ക്രിസ്റ്റിയുടെ പപ്പയുടെ അദൃശ്യ ജീവിതം, അദ്ദേഹം അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യപ്പെടാനുള്ള കാരണം, മെൽവിൻറെ മരണം കൊലപാതകമായിരുന്നോ, ക്രിസ്റ്റിക്കു എന്ത് സംഭവിച്ചു? അന്ത്രപ്പേർ കുടുംബത്തിന് എന്ത് സംഭവിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്കു വ്യക്തമായ ഉത്തരം വായനക്കാർക്കു ലഭിക്കില്ലെങ്കിലും ഉടനീളം ദുരൂഹതകൾ നിറഞ്ഞതും ആകാംക്ഷാഭരിതവുമാണ് നോവൽ. എട്ടാം ഭാഗം മുതൽ നോവലിൻറെ അവസാനം വരെ ഒരു ഇൻവെസ്റ്റിഗേഷൻ നോവലിന്റെ ക്ലൈമാക്സ് അനുഭവം നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്.

അങ്ങനെ ഡീഗോ ഗാർഷ്യയിലൂടെ വീണ്ടും ഒരു യാത്ര പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയിരുന്നു. ഏകദേശം ഒരു വര്ഷം മുൻപാണ് ബെന്യാമിന്റെ “മഞ്ഞവെയിൽ മരണങ്ങൾ”എന്ന പുസ്തകം എന്നിലേക്കെത്തുന്നത്. ഒറ്റ ഇരുപ്പിന് തന്നെ വായിച്ചു തീർത്ത ഈ നോവലിനെ കുറിച്ച് ഒരു ആമുഖം പോലും ഇവിടെ ഉള്ളവർക്ക് ആവശ്യമില്ല എന്നറിയാം.

ഒരുപാട് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള ഉത്തരങ്ങൾ ബാക്കിയാക്കികൊണ്ടാണ് ബെന്യാമിൻ ഈ കഥ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കാതെ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ വായനക്കാരനായ ഓരോത്തർക്കും അവരുടേതായ ഭാവനയിൽ ഇതിന്റെ ബാക്കി ഭാഗം പൂർത്തിയാക്കാനുള്ള അവസരമുണ്ട്. വീണ്ടും ഒരു “ഓപ്പറേഷൻ ഡീഗോഗാർഷ്യ ഭാഗം 3” ന് വേണ്ടി നമ്മളെല്ലാവരും കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.....

പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ പുസ്തകം ഇറങ്ങി പ്രശസ്തിയിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന എനിക്കും വ്യാഴചന്തയിലേക്കും ഇടയിലേക്ക് അപ്രതീക്ഷമെന്നോണം ഒരിക്കൽ ഒരു ഫേസ്ബുക് മെസ്സെഞ്ചർ സന്ദേശം വരുന്നു.

“I dont believe for a moment that creativity is a neurotic symptom(Aldous Huxley)” എന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വാചകം ചേർത്തുവെച്ച ഒരു pdf ഫയൽ.

രണ്ടാമതൊന്ന് ആലോചിക്കേണ്ട ആവശ്യം എനിക്ക് വന്നില്ല. ഞാൻ ഒരുപാട് കാത്തിരുന്ന എന്നാൽ ഇനിയൊരിക്കലും കാണാൻ സാധിക്കിലെന്ന് മനസ്സിൽ പറഞ്ഞു പഠിപ്പിച്ച ഒരാളുടെ അക്ഷരങ്ങൾ. താനിന്ന് ഒരുപാടുപേരുടെ അഭിനന്ദന വാക്കുകൾ കേൾക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അതിനു കാരണക്കാരനായ ആ ഒരാൾ. അതെ സാക്ഷാൽ ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേരുടെ മെസ്സേജ്. പക്ഷെ ഇത്തവണ അവൻ അവന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ അടുത്തഭാഗവുമായിട്ടല്ല എന്നിലേക്ക് എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. അന്ന് നാടുവീട്ടുവെന്നും കാണാതായെന്നും കരുതിയിരുന്ന ക്രിസ്റ്റി ഇന്ന് എവിടെയാണെന്നും എന്താണെന്നും പറയുന്ന ഒരു എഴുതായിരുന്നു അത്. അത് തീർത്തും എനിക്ക് മാത്രം അവകാശപ്പെട്ടതായിരുന്നു. അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അതങ്ങനെ ആവണമെന്ന് ഞാൻ സ്വയം തീരുമാനിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അതിന് തികച്ചും വ്യക്തമായതും വ്യക്തിപരമായതും ആയ ചില കാരണങ്ങളുണ്ട്.. കാരണം ഒന്നാണ്. ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേർ ഇന്നും ജീവനോടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതുതന്നെ..

എന്നാൽ ഇന്ന് എനിക്കൊരു പ്രതീക്ഷ അവൻ തരുന്നുണ്ട്. ഒരിക്കൽ ഒരു നല്ല എഴുത്തുകാരൻ എന്ന ഖ്യാതിയിൽ അവൻ എന്നിലേക്ക് തിരികെ വരും എന്ന്. ഈ വ്യാഴാചന്തയിലേക്കും ഡീഗോഗാർഷ്യ എന്ന അവന്റെ ലോകത്തേക്കും അന്പിലേക്കും വല്യേടത്ത് വീട്ടിലേക്കും പിന്നെ എല്ലാമെല്ലാമായ അവന്റെ മെൽവിന്റെ ഓര്മകളിലേക്കും.....

ആടുജീവിതത്തിനും അബീശഗിനും ശേഷം ഞാൻ വായിക്കുന്ന ബെന്യാമിൻ്റെ മൂന്നാമത്തെ നോവൽ. ആടുജീവിതത്തിൽ നജീബും അബീശഗിൻ എന്ന നോവലിൽ അബീശഗിനും ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ ഇവിടെ ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേറും മെൽവിനും ആയിരിക്കും നമ്മുടെ ഉറക്കം കെടുത്തുക. ഈ നോവലിനെപ്പറ്റി വെറുതെ net - ൽ പരതിയപ്പോൾ ക��്ട ഒരു വാചകം ഞാനിവിടെ കടമെടുക്കുകയാണ്.. "ഫിക്ഷൻ റിയാലിറ്റിയെ കല്യാണം കഴിച്ച ജാതി ഐറ്റം". ഒറ്റ വാക്കിൽ പറഞ്ഞാൽ അതാണ് "മഞ്ഞവെയിൽ മരണങ്ങൾ".. വളരെ മികച്ച ഒരു അതിഗംഭീര സസ്പെൻസ് ത്രില്ലർ.

വായിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ മനസ്സ് ഡീഗോ ഗാർഷ്യയിലും ഉദയംപേരൂരിലും വല്യേടത്തു വീട്ടിലും ഒക്കെ കറങ്ങി നടക്കുകയാണ്. ഉത്തരം കിട്ടാത്ത ഒരുപാട് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ അവശേഷിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് അവസാനിക്കുന്ന ഈ നോവൽ ബെന്യാമിൻ്റെ ഒരു മാന്ത്രികത തന്നെയാണ്.

ബെന്യാമിനും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളും തന്നെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളായി വരുന്ന ഈ നോവൽ ക്രിസ്റ്റി അന്ത്രപ്പേർ ബെന്യാമിന് അയച്ചു കൊടുക്കുന്ന കഥയുടെ തുടർ ഭാഗങ്ങൾ തേടിയുള്ള യാത്രയാണ്. ഡീഗോ ഗാർഷ്യ എന്ന രാജ്യവും അന്ത്രപ്പേർ കുടുംബത്തിൻ്റെ ചരിത്രവും മുതൽ കേരളത്തിലെ ക്രിസ്റ്റ്യാനിറ്റിയുടെ വളർച്ചയും ചരിത്രവും വരെ ഇതിൽ പറഞ്ഞു പോകുന്നു. പലയിടങ്ങളിലും ഫിക്ഷനാണോ റിയാലിറ്റിയാണോ ചരിത്രമാണോ എന്നൊരു പിടിയും തരാത്ത രീതിയിലുള്ള എഴുത്ത്. കേരളത്തിലെ ചില പ്രത്യേക സമൂഹങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും കുടുംബങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും ചില പ്രത്യേക പ്രാർത്ഥനകളെക്കുറിച്ചും ഒക്കെ പറഞ്ഞു പോവുന്ന ഈ നോവൽ ആകാംക്ഷയുടെ മുൾമുനയിൽ നിർത്തുന്ന വളരെ വ്യത്യസ്തമായൊരു വായനാനുഭവം സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നു. മെൽവിൻ്റെയും സെന്തിലിൻ്റെയും മരണവും അന്ത്രപ്പേറിൻ്റെ തിരോധാനവും ഉൾപ്പെടെ ഉത്തരം കിട്ടാതെ കുറേ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഓരോ വായനക്കാരൻ്റെയും ഉള്ളിൽ ബാക്കിയാക്കിക്കൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ നോവൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്..👌👌❤❤🔥🔥

Its from the author Of 'Aadujeevitham', and the best thing is that its entirely different from it. Its a thriller , which is not common in malayalam and the writer himself is an important character.You can see the experimentation Benyamin have done in this and in m view , its a success.
The story is of finding the missing pieces of a completed novel , with help of hints given in the first part.So it develops in new routes into new people and it ends with a big twist.Try this one for the difference in approach.Its a page turner.

After reading the book I'm speechless.
My mind is still struck in deigo gracia. I'm still not able to digest it as a fiction. Benyamin, you're truly genius. You played with the reader's mind brilliantly. I couldn't resist myself in search of deigo gracia and Christie in Google. Got some information about deigo and Christie. I'm sure today I can't have a sleep without thinking about Christie for sure .

Finished reading yesterday at 3:00AM. And now I just started research on Diego Garcia, Cheraman perumtheru and the very next thing planned is to go to Orkut and search for those faces there. Novels which ends with lots of open question is always a pain for the reader. But I do enjoy that pain.

I was not a fan of Malayalam novels. But this book changed it. Excellent writing from Benyamin!! Felt like I was reading a suspense thriller from Dan Brown written in Malayalam. A good book to go, if you are a fan of fiction mixed with mysterious historical facts.

This book has a gripping start and I like the way mystery builts around the story.However,I had to rate it down to 4 stars because of the way the author handled the ending.
