If your golf game has been plagued by inconsistency and less-than-peak performance, you may be going against your "natural swing". But you can improve your golf game dramatically and you can beat bad habits by drawing on talents you already possess.
The Natural Golf Swing - introduce you to your natural balance and rhythm - let you play consistently to your potential - allow you to enjoy a repeating swing - help you increase power and control with every swing
According to champion golfer George Knudson, your swing is governed by laws of nature, and is subject to logical, physical fundamentals that are all too often ignored. By learning the simple principles outlined in this book, you will generate more powerful, accurate swings, reduce your score, and gain control over your game. Take advantage of Knudson''s more than 30 years experience on the pro circuit as he guides you step-by-step through the mechanics of the natural swing, from the important first step of maintaining proper balance through the backswing, down-swing, and finishing form. Extensive illustrations and drills help to clarify each step. Knudsen also shares his experience as a golfer on the tour, offering valuable insights into the roles that temperament and concentration play in winning.
More and more you are seeing old instruction videos from people like Johnny Miller and Sam Snead and more current YouTube instructors like Erica Larkin and Paul Wilson who are promoting the same basics, I.e., passive hands and arms with the swing controlled by the larger muscles of the body that Mr. Knudsen has put forth in this book. He was a man ahead of his time.
If you truly want to improve your golf game you should give this book a try.
Great golf approach, very much in the Ernest Jones (also see Jimmy Ballard) school of golf. The focus is on the “feel” of the swing as opposed to hitting pre-determined positions. Especially good for those with a limited backswing.
It's best to ignore all golf instruction as 80% of the game is the mind, or, to be precise, 80% of the game is understanding how to empty your mind, to not think at all. George leaves us with one the best quotes in golf "don't play golf to relax, but relax to play golf". This can be applied to Life, and when you decide to quit golf, which is the natural conclusion if, like me, you are incapable of finding a way to 'relax' when faced with the irrelevant and pointless task of knocking a small ball around a large field, in an insignificant corner of a lonesome planet spinning limply around a tiny sun, in the vast void of the Universe(s) - then Life, becomes much easier "don't play golf, but relax!". Thus freed from the pointless escapism of golf, you can return to your innermost thoughts, the thoughts that matter - or drink yourself to death, somewhere secluded, in peace and quiet.
Very entertaining book about authors adventures with golf swing. Concentrates more on swing thoughts and methodology than detailed analysis of golf swing techniques. Knudsen followed in footsteps of Mr. Hogan and writes about once forgotten and now so popular "passive arms" swing. Absolutely worth reading, but be careful when following the instructions unless you know what you're doing :)
I used to recommend Ben Hogan's Five Lessons book but I think I will start recommending this one. I love the concentration on fundamental and natural motions.
