I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.
Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!
I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.
I gave it four stars because Regan made me want to shake the crap out of her. Poor Jagr didn't he live through enough but to have a stupid mate that pushed him away but other then her chicken ways making me wanna slap her the story was great
I love stories with loner/recluse heroes because there is always an element of healing and forming new relationships that take place.
In this book, the ornery Jagr was sent by his Anasso (Vampire King) Styx to find Darcy's missing sister Regan, and bring her back to Chicago in one piece. Darcy is the queen and wife to the Anasso Styx (see Book 3). The rest is the adventure of confronting one's demons, and deciding how they wanted to live their present and future. It was a tad angsty but full of action. I enjoyed this story a lot on audio and never felt bored. I can't wait to read the next one.

4,5 stars. Seperti wine, semakin lama gaya menulis Alexandra Ivy semakin bagus.
Jagr, oh Jagr. Keren sangat, tortured hero emang keren ;). Apalagi tortured hero with big and soft heart like Jagr. Dan gw juga suka banget ama Regan. Tokoh wanita favorit.
My pic of Jagr : Josh Holloway, from LOST. Abaikan dy g punya rambut panjang sepinggang, mukyaaaaa
I really liked this one. It was definitely better than the last. Both of these characters are loners with Regan just coming into her own after being free. Jagr has been free for centuries and loner the whole time. He also suffered far longer. Still Styxx wants him to get out and possibly help Regan as they have somewhat similar backgrounds. What will happen when he does just that? Well Jagr empathizes but tries to keep it to himself. Regan is touchy, really, really touchy. I really like them getting together. Might be my favorite to date. 4 1/2 stars but not quite loved.
"Alexandra Ivy has me hooked on this series, craving it like I would the finest chocolates."
Alexandra Ivy created a winner with this combination of sexy, gorgeous hero, a courageous heroine who's more than a match for him, sly humor, action, magic and hot passion guaranteed to sizzle a page or two.
Regan, kidnapped and abused from young, is a pureblood Were who was finally rescued from her kidnapper, Culligan. However, when Culligan escaped, she vowed not to rest until she has him in her grasp and exacts her revenge. However, she didn't account for Jagr, a smokin' hot vamp who fired her blood the moment she set eyes on him.
Sexy, gorgeous, muscled, virile hero (really, any other description for a hero, anyone?) Jagr, a reclusive vampire who had been tortured for centuries, is sent to bring Regan back home to her sister in Chicago. However, he understood her need for revenge, having undergone the same thing himself years ago. Attracted and unable to help himself, he joined forces with her to track down her ex-kidnapper.
Ms. Ivy's world is one wherein demons (referring to vamps, weres, imps and just about anything non-human) live under the humans' noses in disguises or passed themselves out as humans. I think the premise here is that the humans generally don't know that the demons live among them, except for some special people, such as those who had been in the service of the demons for years as caretakers, housekeepers, etc. Vamps belong to clans and weres to packs, and there exist a sort-of harmony/peace between the two tribes, but it only takes for something to happen and an all-out war would flare between them. There are other demons, of course, such as imps, trolls, gargoyles, etc. Nothing new in this nor in the way both main characters fight their attraction to one another, but the story has more twists and turns than a labyrinth which surprised me in a pleasant way.
There are lots more things I love about this book. There's the strong heroine and her humor and the real issues Regan brought to the relationship. There's the way Regan's character grew and developed over the course of the story, in the way meeting Jagr changed her and the way she suddenly realized how her priorities have changed. There's the way Jagr opened up a bit about himself to Regan early on in the book (about 100 pages into the book) and it is as a result of this that they have their first intimate moment. All too often in some books, sex happened for no reason other than that it's time to have a sex scene. And there's the way Jagr oozed all those protective male testosterone... *melts* He's utterly yummy.
And regarding the descriptions, we have an insight into the way each character viewed the other party toward the middle of the book. Yes, they're still attracted to the other's physical attributes, but there's something more, something deeper.
Regan on Jagr: Icily aloof and yet so terribly vulnerable. Strong and yet tender. Raw, ruthless power with the soul of a scholar.
Jagr on Regan: His tiny Were, with the soul of a warrior and the innocence of an angel.
Apparently, like all the heroines in the series, I also like Levet! I'm sure I'm not the only reader with this sentiment. He provided comic relief, and I'm certain there was once or twice when he stole the scene completely from the main characters. I'm eager to read the other books, if only for Levet, but that's not the entire reason. Ms. Ivy has me absolutely hooked on this series.
I'm happy to say that this book is a standalone and it's not necessary to read the other books in order to understand it, since this is my first Guardians of Eternity book as well. But I'm getting the other books while I wait for Salvatore's story.
Alexandra Ivy... Oh man. So, I don't want to admit this... but I bought this book in the 2010s. I think right after it came out? I bought it, put it on my shelf, and then it got lost. Then I moved... a couple times... and it showed back up. Yes, I know it's 2024 and it came out in 2009. But, I still read and reviewed it, right? That still counts! I'm supporting! I'm a little embarrassed that I lost it for THIS LONG.
I'm also very disappointed because I would have ATE THIS UP in my high school years. I was OBSESSED with books like this. Vampires, fantasy, and romance? Dude. I would have been Alexandra Ivy's biggest fan! I still had fun though and let my inner teenager come out to enjoy it. It was worth every second.
A sexy male vampire with an "enemies turned lovers" (not really enemies, but they don't like each other) vibe? Done. And she's a werewolf? Even better. And lots of magic and fantasy and goofy characters? Perfection.
I loved this, but I get it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. This is definitely a guilty pleasure book for me where I don't really want to judge it for any problems. I just wanted to enjoy the book and let myself get swept away from all of my adult problems. Are there problems in it? Probably. Do I really care? Nope. This one is just a nice book for me. It gave me everything I expected out of it so I'm a happy, little duckling.
Hahhhaaayy... Alexandra Ivy is The Best!!! Love Her books so Much!!! [image error]

A damaged hero is always to my taste. And here not only the hero is damaged, the heroine is as well. It was a very nice adventure seeing them coming together and meeting new characters but she was very slow in accepting her feelings. Understandable ofc, but slow nonetheless.
Fifth in the Guardians of Eternity paranormal romance series based in Chicago and revolving around a group of vampires. The couple focus is on Regan and Jagr and Hannibal, Missouri is the setting for this story.
My Take Well, Jagr certainly has a unique method for shutting Regan up. It's also a nice workaround to Styx's orders that Regan be brought to Chicago without blemish. Styx has an ulterior motive to sending Jagr to fetch Regan. With his own horrific background, Jagr will be more understanding of Regan's plight.
Dang, this girl is stubborn! And running like hell. From everything and everyone. We certainly do learn a lot more about the girls' backgrounds and Regan's life in particular.
I really enjoyed this one. Ivy had a lot going on with some interesting twists. Two people who don't want to love—I know, an old theme, but Ivy works it well. Escape, then rescue over and over with Jagr and Regan taking turns with varying degrees of frustration and desire. Interesting bit of insight on Regan's part, that she had forged her own chains. Followed up with her realization that she's simply switched one prison for another.
The vampires are right. Salvatore doesn't seem too competent as he keeps losing all sorts of things.
What's the deal with switching back and forth between "Sadie" and "Sophie"? What was the point of bringing up Regan's artwork if Ivy isn't going to go anywhere with it?
The Story Another of Darcy's sisters is found and Styx will do anything to make her happy. Including sending Jagr out to retrieve the rejected Were. But Regan has had enough of imprisonment, having no choice. There is no way she is submitting to being imprisoned in Chicago, even if it's a fancy bedroom with her own bath. Besides, where was her sister when she needed her? Then there's that little matter of revenge against the imp who held her.
The Characters Regan Garrett is a werewolf. Okay, so she can't change, but she is one of four girls genetically altered to help save the werewolves as a species.
Jagr was a Visigoth chief and now is a vampire recluse happiest when he's alone in his underground lair with his books and scrolls. Not the combination you'd normally expect of a Visigoth! After three hundred years of torture, he wants the peace of solitude.
Styx, an Aztec in his human life, is the Anasso, the king of vampires, and Jagr owes him allegiance. The Ravens are his elite troop of bodyguards. Viper is another vampire and Chicago is his territory. Levet is a too-small French gargoyle who is beloved of Darcy. So no one can kill him. Although his next run-in with Bella, the water sprite, is pretty threatening. Tane is an assassin vampire who hunts down unstable vampires and a good choice for refuge.
Salvatore Giuliani is King of the Weres and has recently arrived in America from Italy hunting the four Were baby girls who were stolen from their crib. Arrogant and acting too superior for words, this boy needs a knockout punch. Hess is one of his guards, a cur.
Culligan is an imp who held Regan prisoner for thirty years using her skills to con people. Gaynor is another imp more interested in making money than living.
Caine is a cur, a bitten werewolf with dreams of grandeur. Sadie is also a cur, a bitch in every sense of the word and a former hooker, she is now hooked on Caine's dreams. Duncan is her bitch and getting mighty sick of it, too.
The Cover The cover's background ranges from a bright gold to browns with a tight spotlight on Jagr's blue-eyed face and firm chin.
The title says it all as Jagr is Darkness Unleashed.
3.5 stars -Physically Free, Yet Imprisoned By Their Pasts - Love Is The Key
Regan, one of Darcy's other quadruplet sisters is freed from 30 years of imprisonment and torture, and is on the hunt to wreck vengeance on her captor. Regan comes to the story with a whole lot of anger and baggage, apart from the psychological scars from her imprisonment and abuse, the rejection by the were-king Salvatore - because the non-shifting bioengineered pureblood Regan is sterile and of no use as a breeder - opens up the scars of what she's assumed was her abandonment by the family who left her to suffer her horrible fate.
The aloof controlled vampire Jagr's past too includes captivity and endless years of torture, so he is the one sent to retrieve Regan and bring her back to her sister. Regan wants and needs no one, much less the icily beautiful Jagr, but still she is drawn to the vampire who understands her need to pursue her vengeance and is willing to help her. But Regan's days of freedom may be numbered, because even as she hunts her former jailor, Regan is being hunted by a group of rogue were Curs who want Regan for the secrets of blood to enhance their own power.
I have to say that I enjoyed reading Darkness Unleashed. I am exceedingly hero centric and Jagr, once Regan melts the ice around his heart, ends up being a really good leading man - passionate, protective and willing to sacrifice and endure centuries of heart breaking loneliness in order to give the commitment-phobe Regan the freedom she has been denied. The chemistry between the pair is good and the relationship between them isn't rushed and ends up making Darkness Unleashed satisfying from a romance standpoint. For the series overall, the story is not really that memorable and just puts a check mark for one more sister down and two more to go. In fact, though Reagan and Jagr intend to continue on to search for another imprisoned sister, they both end up dropping the hunt - so they can pursue their own elusive happily ever after.
Still I enjoyed this book, I really like Ivy's strong noble vampire warrior leading men. So with that in mind it will be interesting to see what happens with the next book Beyond the Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, Book 6), where the leading man is not a vamp but the arrogant were-King Salvatore - actually I am really hoping that he has to grovel for his HEA.
Yay!!! Jagr si manusia gua eh si vampir anti sosial akhirnya punya buku sendiri.
I realize that a series based on the premise of the existence of vampires and werewolves is stretching credibility and therefore one should just run with it, but there are points where even in that sort of world, one has to say, "waitaminute" Such is this book.
So our h has spent her entire existence tortured and confined to a cage. She's free now and somehow is able to function in society? She can fight? She knows how to throw knives? Yeah... because well, you know, people who keep others captive regularly give them the means to leave (or kill them).
What is for certain is, she's borderline Mary Sue, and she's TSTL. Also, for a former captive who has only known freedom for less than 30 days, and never been able to defend herself, she's awfully mouthy.
The H is a grumpy recluse. That's pretty much it. Well, he has his issues from being a captive for 3 centuries (what's with the 3 bit anyway - she was captive for 30 years, him for 300). But he's less an asshole as a control freak who tries to avoid anything that reminds him of his past (because he goes straight to loony-ville when caged)
And does any of the women in this series know how to drive?
Jagr has been set in his ways for a very long time. He has no reason to go beyond his comfort. But the head of this clan has tasked him with a job. In the process he runs in to one of the missing pureblood weres. The thing with it all was that Regan had no intention of being used by anyone for any reason. She just has a few things she needed to get straighten out and she would be on her way. She had no interest in being part of any males plans. Ever. That was until Jagr. They both had things to get past and traverse neither thought they would need the other but their journey to realizing it makes for an interesting read.
Enjoyable read. The reclusive vampire hero is sent to rescue the vampire king's sister-in-law - who doesn't want to be rescued. By anyone. Especially a vampire with control issues...
Although reading a series in order is always better, it is not imperative with this one.
Guardians of Eternity 1. When Darkness Comes (2007) 2. Embrace The Darkness (2007) 3. Darkness Everlasting (2008) 4. Darkness Revealed (2009) 5. Darkness Unleashed (2009) 6. Beyond The Darkness (2010)
I read Darkess Unleashed in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down! I felt so sorry for Jagr and I found myself screaming at Regan most of the time. But as always it all works out. I cant wait to read about what happens with salvadore, I just love all of her books and highly recommend them to anyone.
This is the 5th Guardians of Eternity book, Darkness Unleashed and it was Amazing!! Jagr and Regan are the best,Both have been tormented and now they have been thrown together in one of the best stories so far!! Alexandra ivy has done an Fantastic Job i can not wait to read the next one.
Jagr n Regan, both with tortured pasts, literally, one chose solitude the other is seeking revenge n freedom. I really enjoyed this one, and both of their struggles
Gengsi mengalah kan cinta, membuat mereka akhir nya berpisah, Jagr malu mengemis2 cinta Regan, Regan mengingkari diri sendiri bahwa dia membutuhkan Jagr... So...belahan jiwa memang akhirnyamesti bersatu kan? [image error]
After meeting Jagr in Darkness Revealed I wanted to read his story. Alexandra Ivy delivered a sexy gorgeous hero, courageous heroine, sly humor, action, suspense and hot passion. I crave this series like I crave ice cream. I am total hooked and always ready to read more.
I had so much fun reading Darkness Unleashed. I feel in love with Jagr right from the beggining and wanted to know everything about him. What happened to him? Why does he stay away from his fellow vampires? All of the things I wanted to know Ms. Ivy delivered to me as well as a great heroine who total complemented Jagr. I so do enjoy when both the hero and heroine fit together.
Regan kicked ass even with her troubled past she learns to over come it. She has a whole heap of issues and with Jagr’s past he is the right person/vampire to help her come to terms with all those issues. I enjoyed her character growth and development over the story and how meeting Jagr changed her and that she realizes her priorities have changed. Ms. Ivy also brings sly humor to this story in the form of a little gargoyle named Levet (I love this gargoyle) and of course I did enjoy the real life references to people, tv shows, etc. She had me laughing, but she also had me pulled into the characters story and how it would all turn out. We feel what they are feeling. By the time they have their intimate moment there is something more, something deeper then the physical.
I am looking forward to the next book in Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity series. I will say that this book can be read as a standalone and it’s not necessary to read the other’s first, but you will get much more enjoyment out this book and the series if read in order.
So good. It took me so long to read it because my own writing was taking precedence.
Jagr, oh man, what a great guy he was. He almost made me cry a few times when he was so hopelessly in love with Regan but she was afraid to commit to him. I don't know if vampires can cry but I think he was close to it a few times. Not a whole lot was revealed as to exactly how he was tortured while he was in captivity but he was deeply scarred both physically and mentally and Regan understood that just like he understood what she'd been through. He was the most emotional vampire I've read about yet in this series and I really loved that about the story.
Regan sort of ticked me off because she was so heartless with him at times. I understand why she did it but she was almost cruel at times but she loved him. She was so consumed by getting revenge on Culligan that she could see nothing else. But at the same time, she was sweet and I found it kind of endearing that she called him "chief" as an endearment. I don't know why that was so sweet to me but it was. It was her way of calling him "honey" or "babe" or whatever else might come with it and he knew it and I think he appreciated it.
I was really bummed when she didn't go with him when he was leaving for his own lair from Styx's house (Styx is still the hottest vampire in the series and I was glad to see him having such an active role in this story). I was fully expecting her to throw herself at him and beg him to take her with him and when that didn't happen, I wasn't really sure if they were going to end up together at all.
It really was a good book and I'll read more of this series when I get a chance. I liked this one a bit better than the others just because of the emotion involved with a broken vampire and a broken Were. It really worked.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I wanted to like this book so badly. I love the rest of the series so much! And I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book, it was out of stock on Amazon so I ordered it from an American company and waited roughly two weeks for it and read it in one sitting.
'A scarred recluse, Jagr makes no secret of his disdain for others company. But now, as a member of Chicago's powerful vampire clan, he has certain obligations to fulfill. The latest: track down a missing were pureblood and return her to her sister. The problem: Regan Garrett has no intention of complying. And though Jagr agreed not to harm an inch of this stubborn female s distractingly tempting body, he ll gladly kiss her into submission, awakening an urge he hasn t felt in years. Hell, in centuries... Regan vowed never to be at the mercy of another man. That goes double for arrogant, steel-muscled vampires with eyes of ice. All Regan wants is revenge against those who imprisoned her. She doesn't need an ally. She certainly doesn't need a mate. But soon Regan will have to choose between a lust for vengeance, and a passion as dark and dangerous as the night.'
I'd really been looking forward to Jagr story, I'm a sucker for a quiet tortured guy. And as I loved the previous books was really expected quite something amazing. Sadly, Regan really annoyed me with her 'I don't need anyone' attitude, and I really started feeling for Jagr. He really didn't know what he got himself into. I would say read this book as I think it's a great read but the heroine just really got on my nerves.
Every relationship has its challenges and Jagr and Regan have them in spades. Jagr's an almost feral vampire that had been tortured for over 300 years and had to join a vampire clan that he considers more torture because they want to civilize and socialize him.
Regan is an altered werewolf that can't shift and has been tortured over 30 years and is on the run to avoid the socialization her sister and the vampires want to inflict on her. Jagr's tasked to find Regan and bring her to Chicago to be with her sister and begin the civilization and socialization.
This is an uneven series for me and I hoped this installment would changedmy opinion. I really liked Jagr but wanted to throttle Regan almost everytime she appeared. This was a fairly well paced read with an intriguing plot that made me want to get to the next installment quickly.
Jagr y Regan!!!
Me encantó!!
This is a paranormal romance that uses all the cliches - brooding, damaged goods Alpha vampire is emotionally healed through his obsessive and devoted love for damaged goods, highly spirited heroine. If those cliches drive you nuts, pass this series by. If, on the other hand, you are a fan of Sherilyn Kenyon (and therefore like this formula), this is a good series to follow. This 5th book in the series focuses on Jagr, a hermetic vampire who was once tortured for 300 years, and a 30 year old genetically altered werewolf named Regan, who was abused in captivity since birth. She's been freed, but is on the run, and the King of vampires sends Jagr to find her and bring her home to her family. It's silly, but a light fun read all the same.
A wherewolf feeling lost just released after 30 years of torture and a vampire who loves his solitude trying to help her re-unite with a long lost sister and her revenge she can´t give up. Loved it and love Regan and Jagr´s story and the continued clues to Salvatore who disappeared at the end, now i have to hurry along to his story, =)
Well this is another embarrassing one. I read this book but I honestly don't remember much of it. I remember vampires and that's just about it. I still have a favourable impression which is why I rated it 3 stars when I read it years ago.
“Dammit, woman, you’ve been trying to get rid of me since I arrived in Hannibal,” he rasped. “Why would you suddenly want me to stay?” She shrugged. “I’m a woman. I’m allowed to change my mind whenever I want, as many times as I want.” “Convenient.”
