The Poky Little Puppy and The Tawny Scrawny Lion are just two of the 46 classic Little Golden Books included in this unparalleled collection. Selected by a noted children's book editor, and with a new introduction by scholar Leonard S. Marcus, no other collection brings so many time-tested favorites together in one place. A wonderful gift item, complete with a ribbon marker, that will occupy a special place in every home.
Although I really liked having all the stories in one book; I felt it took away from the stories since the text is smaller and only like very few of the illustrations per story was included with the story. My adult special needs son would get bored before we finished the story due to not having anything to look at. And part of the Little Golden Book books are the illustrations. It was hard to hold this book because of the size and weight and like I said the text was smaller and smashed together. So I prefer to find the books individually so my son and I both can enjoy the illustrations and the text. But this is a nice collection.
and others I didn't find on Goodreads: The New House in the Forest by Lucy Sprague Mitchell, illustrated by Eloise Wilkin, Fix it Please!, Noises and Mr. Flibberty-Jib, A Year in the City illustrated by Tibor Gergely, The Marvelous Merry-Go-Round by Jane Werner, illustrted by J.P. Miller, The New Baby by Ruth and Harold Shane, illustrated by Eloise Wilkin. Gaston and Josephine by Georges Duplaix, Good Morning and Good Night by Jane Werner, illustrated by Eloise Wilkin, Guess Who Lives Here by Louise Woodcock, illustrated by Eloise Wilkin, Johnny's Machines by Helen Palmer, illustrated by Cornelius DeWitt, Little yip-yip and his Bark by Kathryn and Byron Jackson, The Little Fat Policeman by Margaret Wise Brown and Edith Thacher Hurd, illustrated by Alice and Martin Provensen, Pets for Peter by Jane Werner, Wheels by Kathryn Jackson, Wiggles by Louise Woodcock, illustrated by Eloise Wilkin, Houses by Jane Werner, The Twins by Ruth and Harold Shane, illustrated by Eloise Wilkin.
We love Little Golden Books but we've found that this treasury shrinks the pictures and leaves a lot of them out. The Golden Books collections called Animal Tales, Farm Tales, Sleepytime Tales, etc are much better because they are the complete original stories and illustrations.
Great collection of all the classic Little Golden Books that I read through with my kids. Many well-known, many that probably are no longer in print individually. A nice walk down memory lane and showing kids historical vehicles, occupations, etc.
Gotta love little golden books! The pics are much smaller/omitted in some of the stories though, so be forewarned. I saw other commenters had written that there are better compilations with more illustrations. Decent for our purposes though!
Believe it or not, I read this book over several visits o the pediatrician when my daughters were children. I enjoyed the collection, illustrations and complete package. I wished I had bought a copy when I saw it in the bookstores.
