Ohhhhh.....okay so remember when I said His Kiss by Melanie Marks was good.....well this book is just AMAZING! It was so sweet and it completely stole my breath away...and my heart (I think....still can't get over the shock of how amazing this book was). I know I am repeating but really if you read this than you have no other choice, so Yes I'll say it again...IT WAS AMAZING!
In the beginning, you meet Rain a really religious and sweet and gentle soul. 10 years ago her best friend Kyle was taken and in his memory (and with the help of a school assignment) she started to write a blog about God and what is right and how all can be forgiven, if people just believe. What she never believed was Kyle coming back. But that's exactly what happens. It was funny because she doesn't recognize him and gushes over how hot and sexy he is, the first time they meet. Later, she finds out and turns the colour of a tomato! LOL;)
Kyle is Rain's best friend and her Smokey Shadows (old joke). He is always there for her and always takes care of her no matter what happens. He loves her and he would do anything for her. Problem is he has a troubled past that he wants to keep Rain away from. Rain however has different ideas and wants to be close with Kyle. Their relationship is just heartbreaking and soooo incredibly sweet that at one point I had tears in my eyes!!!
Obviously, I am not going to give you the juicy details so you have to find out the rest of Rain and Kyle's story by you know.....actually reading the story! But be warned it is not what it seems! You will be blown away (to Pluto..if that helps) but nonetheless very pleased! I know I was and I just finished the book and am still getting over the twists and turns of the story.
My only complaint would be that it was too short! Why oh why...but sadly it was over way too soon for my liking! I have an open mind however and am just glad that I got to read it! Ms. Marks did a phenomenal job and truly I couldn't have dreamed of a better story, characters, romance, action, mystery and ending!!!! I am going to stop expressing my love any time now....LMAO ;) But, really if you are looking for a good time and a cute romance mixed with mystery read When Kyle Came Back. It will sweep you off your feet....literally! ;)

3.5 for this one. Loved the idea of this story and it held my interest, but a few things bothered me. Lots of scary, creepy build-up, but the ending was a bit confusing. The characters were sweet, but I would’ve liked more with the romance--I actually wondered if there was even going to be one at all until more than halfway into the book. I also had issues with the Chase factor (see spoilers below). And, though I liked Rain, her behavior was over-the-top at times--borderline stalkerish and creepily obsessive.
**SPOILERS**: I COULD NOT understand why Rain wouldn’t (and didn’t ever!) break up with Chase! Ridiculous that he ended up having to do it for her! I wanted her to make that final statement (by breaking up with Chase) that she was for sure choosing Kyle over Chase. And the ending with regard to the romance was too abrupt IMO and not very satisfying. Also, I couldn’t understand the part about Kyle being dead. Was he actually buried and then somehow miraculously reappeared? Or, did it all happen in an instant? This part of the story really needed more detail and explanation!!
This one was hit and miss for me. I started off really liking it, but then it spiraled into the abyss and left me wanting an exorcist.
It suffers from an identity crisis. One minute you think you're reading an interesting thriller, then a paranormal romance, and then the New Testament. Our heroine comes across as a religious fanatic at times and it really put me off.
I understand that in context, she needed to be religious, or at least be open minded about the idea of God, but as someone who sits on the fence when it comes to the Holy Father, any good work the author did of getting me invested in the story was undone by a character who could be best friends with Carries mother.
Don't get me wrong, I have a healthy respect for those who do believe in God, but in turn, I appreciate those who don't ram their ideas down my throat. It's almost suffocating at times.
Melanie Marks is a good writer, she's fluent and has a good grasp of carrying a plot using interesting situations. However, there is a fine line between using faith as an interesting tool in order to move a story forward, and outright preaching, and this book favors the latter for me.
I really don't know what to make of this book. It started off really great and interesting, but it started to fizzle out before I even got to the half way point. Rain pushed Kyle way too hard, and honestly all their conversations were the same. Rain was always making him go to these church things he didn't want any part of, and she was constantly telling him who to date because she didn't like the girls he was with, all the while, she has a boyfriend of her own. Any time Kyle would tell her he didn't want to do something or that she should stay away from him, she would instantly start crying. I feel like that was all she did: pester Ryan and cry when she didn't get her way. This could have been a really good book, but it just fell really really flat
Seventeen-year-old Rain Tolley’s childhood friend, Kyle Ryan, was abducted 10 years ago. Now, mysteriously, he is back—only where has he been?
Though Kyle is still kind and sweet—and yeah, smokin' hot—Rain is drawn to him, but afraid of him as well. Kyle seems haunted by the demons from his past—literal demons. I was drawn to this book originally because I liked the concept. I liked the idea of a story about a boy who disappears and reappears years later. This book started out well but quickly became tiring with repetitive references and a too much religious connotations to the point of overbearing.
I did like Kyle's character (minus a few too many repetitive hand through hair motions). The constant avoidance of the truth between Kyle and Rain became very frustrating after a while and made the book drag. It is too bad because I think it had great potential.
Is it bad? Well is clearly YA. I get that it is fantasy/paranormal/whatever but it is just too loosely based on any of those ideas to even be realistic. On the other hand I have read some really good YA books.
I really wanted to like this book. I just didn't at all. Most people who go through what he went through aren't so opened and put together as Kyle was.
This book didn't take long to read BUT I would really like to have that time back....
It's Fast, Faithful, thrilling, exciting, and sweet.
It's so good, i started reading it last night, and i slept at 4 am, because i couldn't put it down. but, i still needed my sleep, but i woke up at 8 am. just to finished it. it's so good.
I keep giving Melanie Marks book's a chance because they have so much potential. So much. I had to think for a bit how to describe succinctly what I hate about them. The angst overshadows the good stuff so heavily I feel like the reward at the end is not worth it. Don't get me wrong, I love a little angst, but in her books it is just ridiculous. I can't take it anymore.
this was such a good story! very touching and sweet. it was very romantic yet full of suspense. it was realistic, yet paranormal. so good! Kyle was my favorite ever. very tender, sweet and wonderful. Love!
I don't have much to say about this book. Maybe it's because I set the bar really high and expected too much. Or maybe it's the fact that I have a different perspective on the ways mentioned in this book. But the bottom line is . I didn't like it. The story line had holes in it . It was like running a race (since it was fast paced, a little too faced paced for my liking) and I kept stumbling along the way. I think melanie could have spent more time explaining the story and thr background of the characters. The style of writing wasn't all that good too. At times I felt that the author had all these great idesd in her mind but she wasn't able to reproduce what she thought appropriately . The next thing that I found disappointing was the character of Chase. He wasn't given enough spotlight and I felt that he would have been a pretty likable character otherwise . I would like to mention that Melanie did a great job instilling values in the minds of the readers. The whole angels-and-demons thing does make you start thinking . However it wasn't too believable. Rain though is a beautiful character. Although she spends a lot of her time crying, she's a strong character. She knows her priorities. I love that about her . Kyle is pretty amazing too. All mysterious and stuff.
Anyways this book isn't one of my favorites. I wouldn't recommend it . But If you need a change then go ahead !
I am having such a hard time reviewing this book because while I liked it and did enjoy reading it and really, I loved Kyle's character, there was just a lot wrong with it.
Too many repeated references. Too many contradictions for my liking and just really not enough communication between Rain and Kyle. It was a little frustrating and made the book seem way longer than I think it really needed to be. Things sort of dragged out at times.
It was a good read though. It was different and the characters were nice, I just, I don't know. I didn't feel that love or connection I usually do with one of Mark's stories which honestly made me a little sad because I was really looking forward to reading a full length novel from her instead of the shorter stories of hers I have read so far.
I guess maybe I feel a little disappointed? Not sure exactly what it is I am feeling. This book just didn't do it for me.
I thought this book was Amazing!!!!! I had a hard time putting it down to even sleep. It kept me interested all the way through from the first page to the last. Every time I thought I figured out what was up with Kyle it changed. It kept me guessing and wanting to get to the end to see what happened. The only negative is I wish Kyle and Rain would have gotten together a little sooner so we could have seen how their relationship was going to go. Oh Well still an excellent book:)
I struggled to finish and just didn't enjoy the book. It just felt like the story would never end because no one would talk to each other and explain or tell anyone the truth, it got exhausting. And I get it, Kyle 'runs his hands throw his hair' and 'licks his lips' a lot, I just didn't need to know EVERY time he did it. There was a lot of church and LDS stuff in it too. That's not exactly up my alley although I know some people do enjoy it.
I loved the plot of the book, but it was a little to churchy and not even religious just to much church. lol It wasn't needed. I have read many book based on religious figures and that was done well. but some young girl trying to force going to church on the guy was just to much. overall I did like the book but the ending was a little abrupt and just kind of ended. not really a cliffhanger just all of a sudden done.
This book is fanta - fabulous! I was so addicted to my phone reading it that I actually tried eating single handed and knocked a ketchup container with a French fry - you can imagine the outcome. I really like the characters and the plot a whole lot. I would recommend this to anyone aged 10 to 15. I'm Aarushi by the way and I'm 12 - and yes this is my mom's account!

You won't be disappointed.
This was a really cute book. I would have liked to see a bit more action in it though. And perhaps a bit more involvement with Stan. Also, the ending could have been a lot more suspenseful and perhaps a bit more epic for all the hype that was created with the demons and all. Aside from that it was an enjoyable read.
its a good book not great the first part was awsome the rest of it not so much and in some pars i as tempted put down the book but im a fan of this writters other book so i read it any way and its not to bad but you will never see it as one of my favorates 3.5 stars
This book was pretty good. It may have creeped me out, once or twice. But still, I liked it. I liked Rain and Kyle as a couple. I just wished I could have seen more of their relationship after the confessions.
Melanie, I love your work and I think you rock. But this book was annoyingly painful for me to read. The storyline was a great idea, but the main character made it a flop. By page 3 I had to force myself to finish the book. I hate leaving a book unread.
2 things I did not like: Too much church and way too much striking through his hair, sorry ... With those 2 things gone it would be more stars, but after all I liked the book.
