Even though I hungrily devoured this book in an hour, I still managed to see the flaws.
First, the fight with Khloe seemed… I don't know, but a little under dramatic. It was 2 pages long. It would have been much more interesting if it was longer.
Next, when she gets sick, I remembered in the first CC book there was supposedly an Infirmary. If she got the flu, why didn't she go?

Overall I LOVED this book, definitely better than Popular.

Of course, as an avid Canterwood Crest reader, I read this book. Nothing sensational, just your average, enjoyable read from Burkhart. You really get a chance to go through a defining moment with Lauren, and Burkhart writes so you can feel what Lauren is feeling every step of the way. Thumbs up!

Heads up, kiddos! I feel a rant coming on. DISCLAIMER: I love you JB.

I feel like the hallmark of Canterwood Crest is overreaction. These girls overreact to everything that crosses their path. These girls are twelve years old and they really need to chill because if they continue on like this, they'll have high blood pressure and chronic back problems by the time they're sixteen. They all need to take a deep breath and for once COMMUNICATE with each other. Every time they overreact, it's simply a misunderstanding and the girls get all butthurt over nothing. Lauren is the queen of this drama. Look at the intense psychological fear she has cultivated for herself over an accident that literally caused no harm whatsoever. This chick is bound to need some therapy. Assumptions are your enemy, Lauren, not your friend. But never mind, you and Khloe just made up and now you're giggling and promising each other exorbitant amounts of sugar and fat. True friendship restored.

Now for the next unimportant conflict, our resident hot guy, Drew. And he's so perfect and nothing is wrong with him, which is absolutely ridiculous because no twelve year old boys can be this cute, mature, and sweet. They just don't exist. Twelve year old boys are in that annoying stage of life when they think they're cool and have no idea that they are just annoying little pygmies that chatter about girls and sports and wear too much Axe. Lauren, please do tell where you find all of these wonderful twelve year old boys. Maybe Lauren has deeper psychological issues than I thought and this boy, "Drew," is just a figment of her imagination. Either way, she definitely needs to lay off dating until she is emotionally stable and at least sixteen years old. There is no excuse for a twelve year old to date. It just doesn't happen. Twelve year olds think they're "dating," but really their parents just drop them off at places and older people either look at them like they're adorable or look at them in disgust because they're making too much noise. Anyways, cue the unrealistic, childish behavior about liking a boy. How do these girls have so many nicknames? Do they really hate their real names that much? Lauren has at least three that I can come up with off the top of my head.

At this point in time I would also like to mention the cover, because that girl that models as Lauren does not look real. I have no idea what it is, but she has a definite Barbie quality to her. Also, we do have a staggering amount of italics, but this is commonplace for Canterwood books.

Lauren, don't be such a jerk. Why in the world must you post everything on social media? Now you've driven a rift in between your friends. They're also quite possibly terrible friends if they get ticked off about that kind of thing, just saying.

I'm just going to say that this new mean girl, Riley, doesn't cut it for me. Heather Fox was one of the best characters of the entire series, very multi-layered and interesting, but this Riley chick sucks. She's really annoying, unbelievably petty, and not convincingly villainous at all. She's just a snarky little kid with a bad attitude that I don't want to hear about. Heather had a lot of depth and heart to her character. Riley is sub-par.

I also hate the long, drawn-out explanations of regular horsey things. You don't need to explain every detail of what the farrier is doing, JB, it's not at all essential to the plot, and though you may feel like it increases your credibility, it actually brings it down a few notches to seasoned horsemen. Oh my Lord, Lauren just said "You heart your shoes!" Gag me. I'm surprised Whisper hasn't kicked her for her dumb comments yet. Sorry, JB, I just have a thing against Lauren. I guess I'm still bitter because I miss Sasha.

Back to the current. As I said before, twelve year old boys do not have the brain capacity to generate such well thought out compliments and would certainly not waste any time bothering to say them out loud and be laughed at by their other idiotic friends. So, Drew, you're officially not real.

Dayum, Khloe, you better quit now. You're not cut out for the world of upper level equestrian sports if you can't handle an egg and spoon race. I hear that's one of the qualifications for the US Equestrian Team. George Morris would fall over if he realized the quality of these deluded girls who are "the best." I'm sure Lillie Keenan wouldn't ever drop an egg in an egg and spoon race. That's how you know she's real.

Lauren, why do you go through so much effort to look nice at the barn? You'll just get sweaty and gross and your makeup will run and then Drew will never love you. Honestly, the stable is not a romantic rendezvous, as you are bound to end up with some hay in your hair and various horse slobber accessories.

Okay, this whole warm up lesson illustrates a HUGE problem to me. These girls don't realize that you must have constant contact with your horse's mouth? That you are constantly working from leg to hand, always asking your horse to stretch down and use his back to some degree? Lauren is supposedly a dressage star, and she's literally sweating and all pooped out because Mr. Conner is making her use her legs and keep contact with Whisper for extended periods of time AT THE WALK. *gasp* This should honestly be a cakewalk for you. You should be able to do this at all gaits, chick. Lauren, I don't know what kind of dressage you've been doing, but it isn't really dressage, hon.
As a note, every time I see "perf" I die a little inside. Whoo! At least Riley is gone now. But who will take over her place as the regular antagonistic girl?

Also, apparently Khloe had to keep Lauren under lock and key to stop her from going to the barn while she was sick, but during Lauren's narration, she clearly never once mentioned a thing about it. Whatever because now Lauren is at peace before her first show since THE ACCIDENT. And apparently this show is so very important because it only lasts 18 pages, while all this other random, not relevant drama that isn't even the supposed main conflict goes on for the other 182 pages...

Wow, Lauren's journey on the show circuit has begun. I'm not sure which show circuit they're talking about because all these classes don't happen and the kind of show they're doing isn't actually a thing. I still have no idea if these girls actually intend to be eventers or what? It's never really clear. And if they're so good, why are they not competing at actual rated events? I just don't understand.

Anyways, I'm all done with my rant and I feel a little better about life. JB, sorry for any hurtful comments, I'm just doing my job. You know I love you and will always read Canterwood, no matter how bad I think it is. All right! Elvis has left the building.

Personal response:
I really liked this book because it did a really good job of displaying fears of showing. I liked how it showed the struggle of repairing friendships. Lastly, I liked how this book dealt with horses.
Plot:
In the beginning of this book, Khloe and Lauren were up in the hayloft. They were both mad at each other because they had not talked to each other very much. Lauren thought that Khloe hated her as a roommate. After they sat there and talked, they walked down from the hayloft. Both Khloe and Lauren had apologized to Lexa, because they kept talking to her about each other. The next day, things were back to normal with them.
The next couple of days flew by and Lauren had just focused on school and the upcoming show. Lauren had figured out that in her designing class they were going to make the costumes for The Beauty and the Beast play the school was doing. That weekend, Riley went to New York for an acting audition so the girls decided to sleep over at Clare’s. While they were at the sleepover, Lauren had posted something on social media and before she could take it down Riley saw it and commented on it. Everything she commented was rude. Clare took her phone and texted Riley telling her that she was allowed to have other friends other than her. After Clare sent the text, the girls decided to go for a trail ride with Drew. While they were trail riding, Khloe decided that they played a couple of games. Once they got back to the stable, Khloe and Lauren went back to their room to work on some homework.
That next week, both Khloe and Lauren had a date with guys. The week had dragged on for both of them. On Friday, Lauren had an upset stomach but she thought it was just because she was hungry. Later in the day, Lauren felt even worse. Once school got out, Lauren and Khloe had to get ready for their dates. Lauren decided to put on a lot of foundation to cover up her red cheeks. While Khloe was picking out her outfit, she was talking to Lauren about how good the food was at the chinese place. After Khloe had pick out an outfit, she noticed that Lauren looked like she was about to throw up. Within a couple of minutes, Lauren ran to the bathroom to throw up. That night, Lauren and Khloe had missed their dates because Lauren got sick. Lauren had spent a couple of days resting. That following saturday they had the schooling show. Lauren’s first class was dressage. At the very end of this book, Lauren had won the first place ribbon for dressage.
Characterization:
The main character in this book was Lauren. Lauren was working with her horse Whisper to get ready for a schooling show at Canterwood. Lauren had never shown since her accident at Red Oak. Lauren was dating a boy named Drew. Another main character was Riley. Riley always competed with Khloe in everything. Riley ended up going to New York for an acting gig.

Setting:
This book took place at Canterwood Crest Academy. This book took place during the day because that was when school was. This book took place in September because that was when school started and the kids had to live back on campus. This book also took place in the afternoon because that was when Lauren had lessons after her classes. This book would have took place in the present because the characters use cell phones to communicate with their friends.
Recommendation:
I would recommend this book to anyone who have read the other books in this series. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes horses. I would also recommend this book to middle school girls because it was an easy read and it also had to dealt with drama.

Drew smiled, satisfied. “I didn’t even look at the leaves, but once you pointed them out, I took a closer look. You notice the beautiful things, Lauren, that I think most people walk right by.”

Absolutely in love with LT’s journey! Boys, horses, academics and rivalry… it doesn’t get better than that!

This series was a childhood favorite of mine! Looking back, it's pretty terrible. But I loved it as a kid and it made me appreciate books more, so that's what matters!

Is it just me, or is the second series of Canterwood Crest extremely boring? Compared to Sasha Silver, I've never been able to like Lauren Towers, from her appearance (just look at her seemingly Photoshopped picture on the front cover) to her words and actions and choice of friends. Hell, she bugs me. A lot. I keep reading because though she is irritating, the series' drama is very interesting, which is what got me hooked on it in the first place. Still. Waiting for something good to happen and for myself to like Lauren. If that's possible.

honestly, the fight between lauren and khloe resolving so quickly showed that the "drama" was... nothing.

lauren is doing so good!!! her comeback for real.

riley finally left and claire FINALLY stood up for herself. lauren and claire taking charge and being brave!!!

this book felt like filler, and i can't remember anything from this book either... it just felt flat. nothing too special, nothing too ordinary.

as i said before, there was drama that could have been avoided if SOMEONE, ANYBODY, actually talked to each other.

and riley leaving was so anticlimactic like i didn't even feel bad for her and toby in the earlier books because it just seemed randomly thrown in there and we never talk about it ever again.

riley just leaves. like a throwaway character. you would think she would be there for a little bit more, but no, she's just gone.

bottom line: ehhh

I originally read the canterwood series when I was around 10-12 years of age and decided to re-read the series to take a trip down memory lane and for some lighthearted easy reads. There was some new books added to the series (this one included) with slightly different characters involved and personally I didn’t like them very much. I didn’t really like the themes involved or how the language has changed - more than happy to discuss this in depth with anyone that would like to ☺️ Overall I still recommend the early/first series for a younger age group that are interested in horses or anyone that wants an easy read.. 🐎. 2/5 stars 🌟

I loved this book! The author had me on the edge of my seat every second of reading. Jessica Burkhart did such a good job of having all the details there, yet it was not over whelming. There was a lot of action, drama, adventure and of course horses! I really enjoy reading about horses and the life of owning a horse but sometimes I get bored of it in other books, where in this book series there's enough horses and there are also other things mixed in. I enjoy reading this series and recomend it to people how like horses, and/or like girl gossip and drama.

Such a great book, really enjoyed reading. Lauren overcomes her fears, and just by letting go of everyone watching her and all the pressure, is able to make a comeback.

- After all the drama between Khloe and Lauren in Popular, they resolve everything within only a few pages in this book, and then their relationship goes completely back to normal. Despite how dumb their fight was, there realistically should have been some residual hurt feelings.
- This book is pretty much entirely about the upcoming show at Canterwood. Lauren is freaking out the entire time, but she never practices with her horse outside of their lessons (Sasha was literally always practicing so I don't know why). I get her being stressed over a show, and it being her first show since the accident, however, her accident was during a cross country competition, meanwhile, she signed up for dressage and a trail class. That's right. She's stressed to compete in a trail class. How hard can it be? I guess it was an important moment for her when she won, although I really didn't get why she was surprised to win, when Lexa got second place and she knew she got less points than Lexa.
- The other main focus in this book is Lauren's growing relationship with Drew, who I think is fake. All the kids in this book are twelve or thirteen, and honestly, I remember what boys were like at that age, and even what girls are like at that age. They don't make such nice compliments. Since when do twelve year olds go out on dates. I thought when you're that age you call each other boyfriend and girlfriend, hold hands and kiss sometimes, but you just hang out in school. Maybe it's different at boarding school, but boy do they act mature. Drew also is somehow perfect and has no faults, so he's super unrealistic

Yay! Another really good book in the Canterwood Crest series. I know I am a little older than the intended audience, but I am enjoying this series because of the genuine horse interaction - LOVE!!

This was my favourite of the new Lauren-storyline CCA books I have read so far, mostly because it goes into a lot of detail about preparing for the show! Everyone who has ever shown a horse knows how stressful it is to show, especially if you've had a bad fall. Been there, done that. So I TOTALLY could relate to Lauren's stress leading up to the schooling show, and I think the author did a really good job describing those feelings and telling the reader what Lauren was thinking, doing, etc. I also liked how the author is really bringing along the Drew-Lauren story line.

Overall, I can't wait for the next book in the series. I love Canterwood Crest novels, and hope for many more in the NEAR future!!

This was a great addition to the series, it showed some real character growth for Lauren, but also for Riley's roommate Clare and I think it set a lot of wheels moving for the next two books. Which I would personally love. Clare seems to be a neat and level-headed character and I would love to get to know her better. I know what I'm expecting to happen. But will it occur? As for Riley's, not-so-dramatic exit, really not what I was expecting from Burkhart's previous works. Which leads me to believe we haven't actually seen the back of Riley yet. And with only a couple of books left in the series, I'm curious to see how it will end.

Totally made my day. I can't believe that she got sick but I get it she was so worried. The fact that she didn't get enough practice totally scare me but she did it. 1st that was great. But I seem to remember that just before she got sick Drew asked her out yeh! I also recall that even though Khloe had a date too she stayed with Lauren. That was awesome of Khloe even though she could have gotten sick. This book made the last book worth reading even though it was boring. I would think this is a great book and deserves five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
