Camryn Rhys grew up on the border of Canada and the US, and still hasn’t decided which country to call home. She splits her time between the Alberta and Montana Rocky Mountains, with friends and family in both beautiful locations. After running her own restaurant for several years and acquiring advanced degrees in writing, foodie romance seemed the only logical option. When she’s not watching the Food Network, she’s reading a romance novel, or if absolutely necessary, working as a consultant. Someone has to put really excellent food on the table.

A chance meeting in a grocery store changes the lives of two women in a small North Carolina town.

Kit is the chef and co-owner of a new cutting edge restaurant in town who runs into Emily while picking up some last minutes items for the restaurant in the grocery store.

Emily, recently divorced, is the food critic for the local newspaper writing under a pseudonym.

It is lust at first sight between the two in the grocery checkout lane.

Unfortunately for Kit, the food is hit or miss in the restaurant and Emily is going to have to write a review that isn't great but isn't all together bad either.

Sound a little familiar? It did to me too. Change one of the main characters to a man and you have one of many Lifetime for Women TV channel movies — which isn't a bad thing.

Rhys spices her story up with an ex-husband for Emily whose ego is so totally shredded by the fact she cheated on him with a woman instead of a man, he can't seem to remember their marriage was so bad before the affair, they hadn't had sex in two years.

She also adds in a tall, gorgeous, if stereotypical, meathead sportswriter who works with Emily.

I was a little disappointed in the character of Emily because she comes off as so bold sexually but meek in her day-to-day interactions with her editor, co-worker, ex and even her child.

Unfortunately for the reader, the sexual thoughts Kit and Emily have when they think about each other is much hotter than the two actual encounters: one on the couch and one against the wall in the alley.

If the thought of girl-on-girl action squeams you out, this story is not for you. But if you either can overlook it or it's not a problem for you, this is a nice quick read at just 60 pages and is good for whetting your appetite for good food since much of the story takes place in a restaurant and/or kitchen.

Includes Kit's Drunken Butter Tarts recipe at the end.

Off the Record is a quick F/F read. For me this read like many M/M stories where Kit is very confident in her homosexuality and Emily, who’s recently divorced is unsure about her own sexuality.

Kit’s attracted to Emily from the moment she bumps into her at the grocery store while picking up some last minute items for her new restaurant. She’s a glutton for punishment and finds herself a ‘straight chaser’ destined for heartbreak way too often. Knowing Emily is obviously straight since she’s shopping with her son, she tries to avoid reaching out to spark she knows is burning there.

This was the first lesbian romance that I have ever read. I love books about gay men, so I figured "what the hell" and entered a giveaway for this one.

I really enjoyed this. The characters are real and you can immediately identify with them, even if you aren't homosexual. They are genuinely likable characters.

My only issue with this one is that I wish it was longer and the plot was more spread out. The author seemed to be in a rush to the finish. The characters didn't have a lot of time to get to know each other and you never really grasp how they care about each other so much so quickly.

It was good. I liked reading it, but I wish it had more depth.

I enjoyed Off the Record from the very first page. Kit and Emily's chemistry was fantastic. Kit's character was fiery and sexy. I liked Emily's soft sensual side, however, I would've liked Emily to assert herself more in the second half of the book, especially with her ex-husband. If you like lesbian erotic romance, you'll love this quick read.
