Revised and updated. This is 3 novels in 1. Over 345,000 words. A fictional account of the end of the world after an Electro Magnetic Pulse Bomb (EMP) hits America and takes out the entire electrical grid. Americans fall into chaos, and survival of the fittest is the only way to turn. Three different group try to survive the collapse of America.
I am going rate this book in two parts. The first three chapters were so poorly written that I have a hard time associating the first three with the rest of the book. I was paragraphs away from stopping when the rest of the story exploded like a pistol shot.
To say I got hooked would be a understatement as I read this book in just two days. Great story, well developed characters, different situations with cliff hanger chapter endings that at one point made me groan out loud, but this is a good thing. And I learned some things. I am also going to buy some of this author's deer snares for my own preps as soon as I can.
I am not certain why people always want to prove their literary worth by poking holes in good stories with snarky comments about editing. Hey folks, this is independent fiction without the huge editing staffs that big publishing houses have to pour over their works. Get over yourself! Instead of remarking on bad editing why dont you go write something of value. (climbing down off my soap box now.)
I am immediately buying the second book in this series. What other recommendation do you need?
I picked up this book in order to participate in a contest on Facebook. I had heard of the author, but was not familiar with his work. Boy, I have been missing out. This book is more along the surviving the end of the world genre than the Ben Raines kick but warrior books that I usually read.
I loved it. It follows several different groups as they deal with the aftereffects of an EMP on the country. I learned enough to interest me in learning how to trap for food as opposed to just hunting. There were sections about training, dealing with wild dogs, home defense, medicines, dealing with injuries. While not all inclusive, it was so much more fun than reading a military field manual. The story was engaging, the characters were interesting and well developed. They continued to develop as the story went on. I think the book was highly engaging, and I had a great time with it. I'd recommend it to preppers and armchair readers alike.
This is three stories in one book. I highly recommend this book. The storyline is one we would not want to face, but this book teaches you a lot about what you would need to do survive. That having been said, the storyline is great and the characters are outstanding. This book made me think about what My family and I would have to do to survive in a crisis situation like the book presents.
Ok start, slow middle, good finish, but not really a finish. Sequel coming. I liked it, though the writing is far from polished. Long, but a good read. Solid idea of how it would be after TSHTF, though nothing really new as far as EOTWAWKI books go.
Great source of information for preparing yourself for what may come. All of the information is contained within the story so you can't just look them up and go on. You have to read the story and understand the situations around each bit of information.
