A so-so collection of episodes from a tabloid journalist in the 1980s. Clarkson is cut from the “classic” cloth of having few morals, even fewer scruples and gallons of ambition and guts - I spent a good chunk of the time shaking my head at how journalists used to operate, and sometimes nodding knowingly at some of the traditions that have carried on decades later. His tales soften and become more relatable towards the book’s close - but by and large this is a window into a past that is best left there.
