It’s an outdated book with some outdated info, but it also has some solid straightforward advice that is a good reminder.

This book is really good. I've read a lot of parenting books. While most ramble on, Dr. Amen chooses to instead be succinct in his points. The ideas in here are practical and easy to follow. Most of them I have read before, but never in such an easy to follow format. I'm already using some of the tools with success.

One other thing I like is that Dr. Amen takes on the topic of difficult children -- those with neurological disorders. Most parenting books only address those children who would not be very difficult to manage anyway. I appreciate that the tools in here can also help children who are wired a bit differently.

Short and sweet and filled with solid common sense advice. No new earth shattering techniques.

This book is a little outdated, i.e. I'm pretty sure spanking is not recommended ever anymore, but I like the basic ideas. He explains special time as daily one-on-one time with your children and I have noticed when I do that, I get fewer fits and complaints. The trick is to find that time daily. It also might be a little over-simplified, as in his family rules sound too good to be true. But the "one page miracle" for goals is very helpful. I'm going to fill one out now.
