Many Christian women have come to understand our biblical mandate for life-on-life discipleship of someone younger in the faith. Most women embrace this role, though, with at least some uncertainty about their ability to carry such a great responsibility. A biblically-based personal study, Woman to Woman: Preparing Yourself to Mentor will guide a woman step-by-step through the process of readying herself for such a relationship. This study will help the mentor-to-be to evaluate her own gifts and how they can be used in mentoring, to examine the different possible roles of a mentor, to develop a plan for starting off the mentoring relationship in a positive way and to avoid the dangers that befall mentoring relationships.
A popular author and speaker, Edna Ellison, PhD, has addressed women in almost every state in the US and has led women’s conferences across Europe and South and Middle America. A humorist at heart, Edna loves collecting Christian jokes and leading women in her church in the Beautiful Hat Society, a group of Christian women who meet monthly for encouragement, laughter and a time of sharing their mentoring adventures. Edna Ellison has raised two children and loves to spend time with her grandchild, Blakely.
Woman To Woman was helpful to me in, not only learning more about mentoring, but also is learning how to examine myself, my journey, gifts and motivations. It separated mentoring into types like, Mentoring as a Servant, an Encourager, a Teacher, a Counselor and a Guide. It discussed the importance of transparency, love, accountability and confidentiality. Ellison and Scribner do a good job of helping you see exactly what you should expect and whether you're ready to commit to such a serious, but rewarding, role.
Wonderful overview on mentoring to others. This book is both an informative book plus it includes a workbook format. It talks about different kinds of mentoring and different relationships that mentor each other. I found myself realizing that mentoring can take many forms, and that if one asks us to mentor them, we have a very high calling to do it in a way that will help that person where they are and to honor God in the process.
