I began this little book optimistically, being a fan of mysteries, medicine, and medieval anything. My hopes were quickly dashed by the lack of quality in the editing. There are choppy sentences, misplaced punctuation on virtually every page, droning on and on about trivia, and too much time spent in some areas to the detriment of others. This makes the reading difficult, and I had to put the book down a lot just to clear my head from wayward punctuation and open quotation marks. I am wondering if this author used an editor at all?
The story flips back and forth from modern times to medieval times with headspinning frequency, much too often. I found myself backtracking to see what I had missed! Characters are shallow and predictable. No surprises here.
I would have enjoyed some depth of character development, and a format that allowed me to get involved for a longer read, not an unceremonious back flip on sequential pages. Best of luck on your next effort.
