From Simon & Schuster, Ecumenics is John A. Mackay's exploration of the science of the church universal. While the family is gone, the collection is well kept and the book's content will remain everlasting. This hardcover book is one of a huge collection of interesting Christian books that belonged to one or all of a grandfather, father and son—each of whom were California Presbyterian ministers all the way back in to the 19th century.
John Alexander Mackay was a Presbyterian theologian, missionary, and educator. He was President of Princeton Theological Seminary from 1936-1959. He was a strong advocate of the Ecumenical Movement and World Christianity.
The relevance of Mackay's insights hasn't eroded much over the last 50 years.
Still, it's not an especially challenging book. I'm not sure that that should count against it, but there just seems to be something too simple about it.
