Bloody Hell, How did I get through this book the first time? Right from the beginning I was struggling. The way that one guy was talking to her and thinking was just offensive. The only reason they hired her was because they wanted to have sex with her. Like, I honestly wouldn't have put it past them to fire her or not renew her contract if she turned them down. Not to mention the fact that they didn't seem to have any interest in getting to know her at all. They knew what they wanted in a woman and they were projecting their desires onto her, they didn't care whether or not it was something she wanted in a relationship or sexual encounter. And then it gets worse. She's assaulted and the sheriffs response is to tell the brothers that he wants in on their pursuit of her. Not even more than a couple hours later! Like, WTF? I was so proud of that house keeper for telling them off. But it just shows that the writer knows exactly how gross that was and just didn't care. Not to mention she hadn't shown any interest in the men, let alone the sheriff. They didn't even discuss whether or not she might be interested in being pursued by him they were just like sure, if you must. And then it somehow gets even worse. She heads into town and when the sheriff finds out he drags her back to the ranch despite her protests. He had no right to do that. She's her own person and she can stay in town if she wants to. No job contract entitles someone complete control over another's personal life. He said he was doing it to protect her but she was in a public place so how likely was it that the guy who assaulted her would choose now to renew his attack? And then, for some reason, after all of this, she agrees to have sex with them. I have no idea why; she hadn't seemed interested before. Those men didn't care about her. They wanted to control her and mold her into whatever they wanted. That is not a healthy dominant/sub relationship. There was no consent or communication about desires and expectations. They expected blind obedience. The complete lack of autonomy was just too much. I don't think I will be finishing this. The only reason I am giving this book two stars instead of one is because the writing is decent and the sex is hot if you can shut your mind off and forget how frustrated you are that it is happening in the first place.
