More Than a Little Flirting

Rate this book
I know better than to date a flirtatious cowboy. But he keeps rescuing me, and I’m starting to like it. Sutton’s first “rescue” embarrasses me, and I make sure that show-off knows I’m not the least bit interested. When he “rescues” me a second time, my resolve not to go out with him wavers. Have I mentioned that he’s hotter than the asphalt on an August afternoon in Texas? Of course I go out with him. And kiss him. More than once. Dating him is going so well I might even be falling in love. But now he wants to upend his whole life to rescue me again. I can’t let him do that. What if saying no puts the kibosh on any chance of a happily ever after?

More Than a Little Flirting by Remi Carrington is a sweet, clean, small‑town contemporary romance novella set in Texas that follows Ivy, a confident (and sometimes stubborn) kindergarten teacher who absolutely knows better than to fall for flirtatious ranch hand Sutton, yet keeps finding herself flustered and charmed by his relentless kindness, good humor and Texan cowboy charm when he keeps “rescuing” her in hilariously awkward ways, from goat farm mishaps to local festivals. It’s a light, feel‑good story (about 186 pages) that serves as a prequel to the Cowboys of Stargazer Springs Ranch series, introducing readers to the warm community and romantic rhythms of Carrington’s world.

From the very first scene, where Sutton carries Ivy away from a charging goat during a field trip and she hates it, then loves it, then denies she does, I felt swept up in that joyful push‑and‑pull between attraction and denial that makes rom‑coms this charming so fun to read. Ivy’s desire to stay in control and Sutton’s easy, respectful flirtation made their chemistry both teasing and sincere, and the way their budding connection grows through laughter, warm small‑town moments and genuine care made me root for them wholeheartedly.

I also enjoyed how the story incorporated found‑family vibes and ranch life whimsy, especially when goats and kindergarteners were involved, giving the romance extra heart without ever feeling heavy. The pacing feels quick (it’s a novella, after all), and a few character choices can feel a bit impulsive, but overall the sweet, clean kisses and slow‑build emotional warmth made this a delightful and cozy little escape.

I’m giving More Than a Little Flirting 3 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this fun story of Sutton and Ivy, I'd seen them mentioned in previous books so it was nice to get their story. I thought Ivy getting upset with Sutton at the beginning was a bit of an overreaction, but she comes to her senses quickly and it was fun to see their relationship develop. They have good chemistry together. Overall, this was a fun read and perfect for my beach trip today!

This is my second rom-com by Remi Carrington and I can safely say that any book in the Cowboys of Stargazer Spring Series is going to be so much fun! I loved it so much! It is a light and easy read. After each chapter I finished I had to move onto the next.

I love these cowboys in the series. They are good men who show up for the women they love. Sutton was no different. He made each date he had with Ivy special. I laughed out loud the first time they met and he saved her from the goat. And Ivy I loved her! I could relate with her because she struggled with letting go of control and I have a hard time with that too. But she couldn’t help but give in as she fell more and more in love with Sutton. I also could feel her struggle over going after her dreams and helping to take care of her father. Her connection with her dad was deep and touching.

The romance between Sutton and Ivy was sweet but sizzled while still staying clean. This book is a novella. It’s a quick read but very well developed and more of the length of a full book. I’m looking forward to more books in this series as they are released and now I need to get a copy of More Than a Pair of Jeans as I haven’t read it yet.

You can get this novella for free over at the Sweet and Swoony Facebook page right now. I highly recommend you do if you like fun reads about swoony cowboys.

Happy Reading!

I loved this sweet story and the goats! they were cute and the whole interaction with the kindergarteners👌🏻it was a funny book opener.

I loved Sutton he was super fun and flirty. I really enjoyed this story, how Sutton was patient and gave Ivy all the space she needed. It was rolling at her pace and he just loved her.

As for Ivy, I did like her. Sometimes I was like what are you doing?... But, come to think of it, her doubts are kind of realistic. The pace of the book was fast, but the plot and how everything developed ended up good.

One of my favorite things, beside the goats🐐, was how this couple communicated with each other!!! It felt like a dream haha I tend to love good communication between the main characters💜 so I was really happy.

I can't wait for Remi's next book!

More Than Falling in Love, #3 - Plenty of matchmakers in this cute, sweet romance. Mason has a great part and the rest of the Stargazer crew is right in the thick of it all. Well written. Lots of fun. Lots of romance in the works. 5*

Cowboys of Stargazer Springs Ranch:
More Than a Pair of Jeans, #1 - Lovely. Funny. Cute. I had so much reading this sweet romance. Wonderful characters and interesting story lines. Written by a lovely Texan and set in Texas, complete with horses, cattle and goats. Cannot forget about the mice and kittens. Plenty of social media, too. Has a preview of the story. 5*

More Than a Pretty Face, #2 - I just love this series. This story has such cute and sweet characters with plenty of humor. No silly mind games, just people trying to make a life with the person that they love while taking care of their friends. Living well, working hard and loving with all their hearts and souls. 5*

More Than Falling in Love, #3 - Plenty of matchmakers in this cute, sweet romance. Mason has a great part and the rest of the Stargazer crew is right in the thick of it all. Well written. Lots of fun. Lots of romance in the works. 5*
Cowboys of Stargazer Springs Ranch end.

Stargazer Springs Ranch series:
Wrangled by Lilith, #1 - I love this sweet, funny story, even when the last page came too soon. Everyone was good people whom I met before with the Stargazer Cowboy series. The dialog between Beau and Lily had me hurting from all the belly laughs. Ava added her share to the mix. Good story lines. Texans will especially enjoy this book, location and dialog. 5*

Enchanted by Joji, #2 - I love the books Remi writes. Well-written, romantic, funny, and nice characters you wish were real. Actually, you'll find people like them all over Texas. This second chance romance for a couple of 40-somethings is another fun read in this series. It is without the typical drama found in other books where she's a nut job and he has no backbone. Both work through their pasts to reach their future without the stupid formula problems, drama and actions. A feel good story. 5*

Helped by Ava, #3 - Ava is so strong in all the other books, yet, here was a bit of a headcase with her lack of self-confidence. But all worked out in this sweet, funny marriage-to-dating romance. That lil youngin Mason shared some good advice. The Mrs. Kravitz church member met her Samantha, mean ole biddy. 4*

Inspired by Mindy, #4 - You're never too old to change. Sweet. Romantic. They are both headcases, they get better once the ball gets rolling and they're working towards the same goal. The route they take is old fashioned and I love it. It is one of the best ways to learn about the other. Sir had his act together. 4*
Stargazer Springs Ranch series end.

Never Say Never Series:
Three Things I'd Never Do!, #1 - I read Enchanted by Joji when I discovered this series featured characters that would later appear in the Stargazer Springs Ranch series. Skid to a halt and shifted to reading this sweet, funny romance. I love all the characters, the interesting story lines, and the fact the author does not do the typical stupid formula, nut jobs and immature, stupid drama and decisions. It is easy to slip into one of Remi's well written books and not come back to reality until the last page. So have the next book on hand. Spoiler: The last bathroom scene is original and just as great as the first bathroom scene. Sweet and clean, nothing nasty. 5*

One Guy I'd Never Date, #2 - They have been in love for twenty years but did not know it. Big Brother keeps his Little Sister and his Best Friend apart while he did not follow that rule with her friend and co-worker. Carrot is a bit silly and Zach is not perfect. He puts beans in chili but he did have Moon Pies and RCs (RahC and chocolate or banana Moon Pies, best dessert mix back in the 60s). Waldo is a hoot. 4*

Two Words I'd Never Say Again, #3 - This is so much fun to read. There is a lot of humor, along with one of my favorite characters, Joji. Joji teamed up with Nacha's mom is a continuous hoot. Mix in the rest of the cast and it is just a sweet second chance romance story. 5*

One Choice I'd Never Make, #4 - I love Lilith and Joji, and now I love Cami. This was so much fun to read. No head games, just someone who knew she was good enough; no lack of self-confidence for Cami. Harper is so romantic and has a good head on his shoulders. Man, it is difficult not to go into book report mode. Fun. Romance. Wonder support characters, just like a large family or old-fashioned neighborhood where everyone had your back. 5*

Three Rules I’d Never Break!, #5 - All the guys in these three related series are great. This is a cute romance complete with a dog, a goat and a '71 Datsun. 5*

Two Risks I’d Never Take Again!, #6 - Sweet. Funny. Relaxing little romance with the same fun gang and a new story line. There are several chapters giving updates on the whole gang two years later. 5*

One Whopper of a Love Story, #7 - A fun tale about a mermaid and 21 frogs and the guy who rescued her. Layla is a fun person and Nico is another of the perfect guys. 5*
Never Say Never Series ends.

Kissing Holly - A simply cute, sweet romance between two people who knew each other in school. He was dating her older sister in high school. They are perfect for each other with their large caring hearts, their sense of humor and their holiday names. There is a lot of joking about their names. Plenty of humor. Plenty of love. Plenty of feel good and happiness. 5*

More Than a Little Flirting is a clean, fun, romantic comedy. This engaging prequel introduces the reader to Stargazer Springs Ranch and the wonderful cowboys working there. I have adored every book in both series set at this ranch. Sutton is caring for the goats when Ivy brings her kindergarten class on a field trip. The goats are a riot. It is a fun read watching Ivy trying not to fall under Sutton’s spell. I always read this in one day because I cannot put them down. Ms. Carrington’s characters feel like extended family!

I absolutely love this series! I am never disappointed! Chivalrous Cowboy. Found Family. Mischievous goats. This is the perfect introduction to the ranch hands. It's a novella so short, but still captures their love story! Sutton is a sweet and kind flirt (my favorite 😏😍) Ivy is a little guarded amd likes being in control, and then in swoops Sutton! I love a good rescue 🥰 Great story!

It started off a little rough because Ivy massively overreacted to Sutton picking her up to save her from a charging goat. Thankfully she got a better but she continued to react in ways I couldn’t relate to at all. Definitely a unique character at any rate. I get the feeling that this story is meant to be a prequel for the Cowboys of Stargazer Springs Ranch, but it also seems to work as a prequel to the Stargazer Springs Ranch series as well.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is a prequel to Remi Carrington’s Cowboys of Stargazer Springs Ranch Rom Com Series

– this is told from Ivy and Sutton’s points of view

Review:

I enjoyed this sweet read! Ivy is such a strong-willed character who wants to do things for herself, even when others think she’s incapable of it. She wants to prove them wrong and strives for that strength. Sutton is determined and so sweet in his care for Ivy. I loved that he respected her boundaries and did his best to protect her (even if the threat wasn’t as big as originally expected). I also loved that Ivy’s father and her best friend/soon to be sister-in-law were so invested and interested in Ivy and Sutton’s relationship. It lead to a few funny scenes and some embarrassment for Ivy 😂.

Ivy’s first thought upon seeing Sutton telling her students about goats was he’s a handsome man. But after a surprise rescue, she is quick to put the brakes on the fluttering feelings. Especially since Sutton’s actions make Ivy believe him to be a show-off. She doesn’t need a savior.

Sutton has seen Ivy around town a few times now and seeing her once again on the farm makes him determined to ask her out. Until an unexpected rescue ensues and leaves Ivy icy towards him. How can he convince Ivy to see who he is past their first interaction?

All they need is a child’s bracelet to set them on a path of being in each other’s lives more. But even then, will they choose the love between them or will they push each other away towards what they believe is best for the other person?

Brief Synopsis: Ivy’s used to being in control and isn’t one to ask for help. Which is why she gets irritated at the attractive cowboy who rescues her from getting rammed by a goat when her kindergarten class is at a goat farm on a field trip. Did I mention he threw her over his shoulder and carried her away? Talk about not being in control. Which is why when the guy asks her out later she says no. And because he seems like the biggest flirt on the planet. It’s going to take more than a little flirting to win this girl’s heart.

This was another novella I got from the Prolific Works promo and it was super cute. Sutton was such a flirt. It was great to see Ivy break down her walls and give into her feelings. I am not typically one for “cowboy romances” but this novella was super cute. It is a prequel novella to the Cowboys of Stargazer Springs series, and I love that the epilogue introduced me to the couple in the first book, Grayson and Daisy. I’m excited to read more of this series.

If you still haven’t went and downloaded a bunch of free romance novellas from the Sweet and Swoony Romance promo what are you waiting for? Link is in my bio.

This is a new to me author. I liked the main characters in the story and I LOVED the way Sutton spoke to children and was chivalrous. Ivy was a little too controlling for my personal tastes but that worked well for the character in the book.
The story was good but a bit too insta-love for me. Still I enjoyed it over all. And the goats were darling.

No sex, language or violence (except from a goat)

Ivy and Sutton meet, and sparks fly. The goats were hilarious and caused all kinds of trouble. Can his flirting be more than him being a flirt? Can she be strong and still let him save her? These two plan "games" in getting together - which I normally don't like but this author did an amazing job of making it comical and keeping me engaged in the story.

I thought this was a sweet romance. Sutton is immediately smitten with Ivy but recognizes the fact that she will have to be won over as she is more cautious and hesitant. The way he goes about winning her over is touching.
