This book was written by my mother in the historical fiction genre which mirrors her life in East Germany before the wall came down and her escape to a new life in the West as she leaves her family behind at the age of 17.

Found and read after reading "Forty Autumns" by Willner's daughter Nina, which is absolutely fantastic. This book has a much simpler writing style (not sure if it was intended to be a YA book, it very much reads like one), but worth the read as a followup to Nina Willner's book if you want more details about her mother's life postwar until she crossed into the West.
