In the battle to get the Being of the Field back to the Universe Parallel, the greatest weapon and risk lay in its own light-field.
Ten years in Maladaan′s past, Taren Lennox seizes the opportunity to secure personal financing for the AMIE Project and base the building on Frujia -- away from Maladaan and its Secret Service.
But when the MSS develop a weapon, from a patent of one of Taren′s inventions, that counts light -- photon by photon -- she begins to doubt her ability to keep her ever-growing psychic army a secret. For this new photon-camera can identify a psychic from the more inept by the unmistakable brilliance of their light-field.

May 2015 There are some authors whose next book you simply must read no matter what, because you enjoy their work and the way their minds work. Traci Harding is one of those authors. I've been a fan of her writing and her thinking for over a decade now (fourteen-ish years? Seriously? Wow!) and while sometimes a character makes me wonder if maybe they're not too perfect (and good at almost everything to boot!), it is the story that keeps me coming back for more with every book. Traci Harding takes her readers on an amazing adventure that I hope will continue through many more books, stories, characters, countries, worlds and universes.
I enjoyed getting to know Taren, Lucian, Zeven and the rest of the crew of AMIE. They were new characters yet felt like old friends - books two and three explained why that was, exactly. I actually squealed and couldn't stop smiling upon realising where these books were taking me. The ideas the author puts forth in her books really resonate with me and I do believe this trilogy will turn into go-to books for when I need a reminder about how magnificent our universe is and how amazing it is to be alive. Five out of five stars for all three of the books! I just wanted to keep on reading and reading and reading, hoping the adventure would never end.
Once I'm done re-reading the trilogy - later this year - I hope to add reviews for the individual books as reading them the first time 'round I simply *had to* keep reading to find out what would happen next - actually sitting down to think about what I wanted to write, well, even that would have taken too long . Reading this trilogy was an amazing adventure and I very much look forward to re-visiting Taren's world and learning more about the amazing life she and her companions lead.
I don't know if I'm being harsh giving a 2 star rating here but having recently read the Bronze Horseman and the Hunger Games, The Light Field tasted like a pink lolly pop served on a bed of marshmallow at the end of a sumptuous six course degustation.
Admittedly the earlier books handed out healthy sized servings of fairy sprinkles too but what I enjoyed in the trilogies from the Ancient Future to the Celestial Triad was the interweaving of esoteric/quantum beliefs, theories and ideals into a good old fashioned romp through the ages/universe(s) with characters who were fleshed out enough not to blur into one another.
Most of that has been left behind on Earth and on Kila I'm afraid. The Light Field was a trip to my nieces thirteenth birthday slumber party - tomfoolery, teeny romances, silly banter (whoa - everyone says whoa a lot), naive plot lines and splat style bad guys who do nasty revolting things that make the good guys raise their eyebrows or roll their eyes or make a sick joke or want to kill them but quickly show mercy to them so they can continue to wreak havoc. Tori is barely recognisable as Taren, Maelgwyn and the Dragon disappeared long ago, Zeven is Brian's ADD smurfy doppelgänger (where oh where have you gone Brockwell? you were my favourite) And who is Yasper again??? Is he Zadoc, I mean Bryce, I mean Ray? Who is Anselm again? Madri? Leal? I can't keep track ahhhh.
This series is a tired template of the Cosmic Logo's with colourless, one dimensional characters who definitely DO blur into one another. AND despite the inside cover of my copy of The Universal Parallel which clearly states the Triad of Being is a TRILOGY, the loose ends have not been not tied up, nope there is to be a book 4... or a book 3 part 2 and they are going to have new, harder to recognise names oy yoy yoy!
All I have to say is... When is the next book being released? Not soon enough! This was a great read, with enough elements from The Ancient Future for the reader to have some familiarity, but enough difference to still be surprised at certain turn of events.
I haven’t done much research on the author, yet, but I have consumed a couple books so far, and so far they have been great. After my second novel (and I’m not reading in sequence) I came up with a sentence that may or may not be the truth but it sounds pretty good.
A well written piece of fiction should imitate reality, to a degree, and that reality is either understood or not, depending on the level of reality the reader is on, or has experienced.
Traci’s words seem to flow through my ears, and relate to aspects of my personal life. Giving both insight and understanding to parts of my memory perhaps unresolved or better yet unknown. Most people would think that’s crazy, because it’s science fiction, but that would just be a judgment.
It would be interesting if the author understands her stories to be a seperate entity or an entirety of?
Once again I am blown away by one of Traci's books. I throughly enjoyed Light-Field. The story picks up basically straight after the 2nd book - Universe Parallel. There is more information revealed with the characters and more story lines completed AND started!
Yes, my friends - this is not the last book in the series!
It feels like Traci is going for the Feist type of series where the story interlocks with the previous books/series. To understand what I mean, I believe that you should read them in this order to get a real grip on the series:
Ancient Future Celestial Triad Mystique Then - Triad of Being
I get excited everytime a new book of Traci's come out and I really want to see how Traci brings together the end of this series. I think it is going to be fantastic!!!
If you haven't read Traci Harding - then go out today and pick up a copy of Ancient Future!! You won't regret it.
It is a typical Traci Harding novel... I am immensely enjoying ‘The Light-Field’. The story picks up basically straight after the 2nd book - Universe Parallel. There is more information revealed with the characters and more story lines, I hear these completed AND… new ones are started!
If you were to read this novel as a stand-alone it would be very difficult to follow, so I suggest you read this particular series right from the start with 'Being of the Field'.
The story line also interlock's with Hardings previous book and series. So to get all the underlying storylines going on I would suggest you read the other series: Ancient Future Celestial Triad Mystique
I read this, and the rest of the trilogy, knowing that I'd be missing a few bits by not reading the ancient future series (and maybe another trilogy or two of Traci Hardings), but that was ok. Not so impressed by being left seriously hanging though. I really hate that. I don't mind a few threads being left undone to be continued in another book/trilogy, but this one was much more than that. Didn't leave me happy. Now I'm not sure if I want to read her other series if they are going to be similar. Or maybe this series carries on back in a previous trilogy. I don't know. I enjoyed the trilogy, but would have liked some closure.
I'm still not entirely sold on Hardings writing, but she does come up with some interesting plot lines and twists that - as with all stories involving time travel, but with the additional multiple universes (and thus, multiple parallel timelines as well ) enough head screwing confusing that leaves ones head hurting.
Traci Harding has to be one of my favourite authors just wish I realised that this was not the ending for this series before I started. Now I'll have to wait for more
Another Traci Harding classic. I'm listening to The Ancient Future at night and it fits effortlessly. Looking forward to the next three in the series. About to start it.
