Hot Like Fire #2

Smokin': Carolina in the Storming

Rate this book
Carolina Gilchrist-Williams is a feisty, educated, sexy full-figured black woman whose sole purpose is to get to her baby (Mariana Madeira from Hot Like Fire: The Taming and Deliberation of Mariana) in Colorado who has just discovered that she’s pregnant.

However, when Carolina arrives, she is greeted by the one man…the one who has taken it upon himself to invade her damned fantasies for the past month and a half. The fine MF had been doing that since she’d gotten her first glimpse of him at Mariana and Samson American wedding ceremony. She had no idea who he was except that he was freaking hot, arrogant, damn hot, big, smoking hot, and to the absolute horror of her inner dashiki-clad activist whose enemy was ‘the man’ and whose goal was challenging harmful social structures...he is white!

Mackenzie Roberts was literally floored by the stark violence that had been directed his way by the luscious, fully-figured African-American woman at his good friend Samson Madeira’s wedding. But damn it all to hell the woman’s less-than-welcoming demeanor hadn’t done a f**king thing to cool his ardor. If anything it had inflamed it!

Events at the wedding had prevented the two volatile personalities from getting together and…
…cuss that fine MF out (her)
…drag that tempting woman in my arms and drink from those luscious lips (him) but now their worlds are about to collide and the North American continent is going to hear all about it!

Carolina and Mackenzie epitomise the age old saying of: Where there’s SMOKE multiple orgasms are bound to follow.

Two pens...one-of-a-kind adventures...zero apologies.

A kickazz tag-team bound together by the pen, Jeanie (the shagalicious wordslinger) and Jayha (the literary badazz) are forces of nature that will either leave you begging for mercy or begging for more.

We are women who have brains we aren't afraid to use; feelings we aren't afraid to express; and, middle fingers that we aren’t afraid to extend. We pen stories that push all kinds of boundaries and we don’t apologize for it. Our heroines are feisty; our heroes are hot, and our stories are one-of-a-kind adventures.

I really wanted to like this one. I truly did. Sadly, I cannot give this higher than a 3. And I think that's being generous.

I like characters with special talents and quirks. However, an entire family with this many, I found completely and totally unbelievable. Also, having spent the vast majority of my life in the South, I also have a special place in my heart for novels written about large Southern families, not including this one.

Being that I was old enough to help raise two younger siblings, and I love them like they were my own, I started off liking Carolina's relationship with her niece. Yet, as the book progressed, I found it bordering on ridiculous. She's only five years older than her niece. I would consider them peers more than anything.

Also, Mariana's behavior did not reflect that of a 30+ year old woman. She behaved more like a 12 year old child. I could understand a certain level of immaturity since she'd spent her life being spoiled, but I found her annoying more than anything.

Also, there were tons of inconsistencies in the novel. I'll let other readers find them when they read it.

Overall, the story was merely passable, not fantastic.

Full length!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED IT! This is my favorite book by this dynamic writing duo. Mackenzie Roberts and Carolina Gilchrist-Williams are an AWESOME couple. Love and family is the highlight of this read. This man worships the kitchen island she lays on, literally ;). The plot is fabulous, the flow is excellent and the character interaction is amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, you will not be disappointed in this read.

I don't get how the book had so many stars. I sighed a lot when I read this. The stereotypes were astronomical throughout the entire thing. the book had its okay parts but for the most part I'm glad this was just a book that I borrowed.

I enjoyed this story, I read it a few years back when it came out. I'm a big fan of Jeanie and Jahya so it was right on time. Carolina was a plus sized woman who knew how to handle her business.

First let me say that I love reading anything Jeanie Johnson and Jayha Leigh, simply because they keep you laughing while delivering a good story. Their characters are all so different but they are single minded in "going on a killing spree". 'Smokin' lived up to all my expectations, Carolina, Mackenzie, Samson and Mariana were so much fun to read about. I loved the dynamics between each character, and as more characters were introduced you as the reader were happy to see them also. I loved that Carolina and Mackenzie did not fall into bed right away, instead it was a buildup to that point. Their combative conversations were hilarious and had me chuckling. This book is 693 pages of pure entertainment.

This book was smart, funny amd full pf love. I hope you write another book with book woman having their babies. First the niece twins and then the auntie triplets. What really had me laughing was the momma beating all of them even the shifters. The ninja sister need to meet a fine shifter that's one she can't lose or hide from.they are all one big happy family now and I love it please come back with this series with everyone finding love even the shifters so it can last longer and we find out what's everyone doing.

So unbelievably good!

This book was so awesome! I laughed and cried! I giggled. I was angry. I had a gambit of emotions! But this story was so unbelievably good. Carolina was such a hard nut to crack. At one point, I was talking to MacKenzie and saying, "Just walk away, bro!" But she finally realized how she felt. That family is crazy but so loving. I'm glad that they loved David as their own. Great job, ladies! Will Georgia and Greg get together?

loved it!

I enjoyed this book and I love how fleshed out the story was.

Spoiler* The ending with the the D.C. confused me but I feel like if I read the other books it would make sense.

This was AWESOME! It made me laugh and it may me cry. I love the family dynamics and the love they have for each other, to come when you're called, no questions asked, to help bury the body or bodies. I wish every woman, especially a black woman could find the love like those in this story.

2.5 STARS.

I really wanted to like this book since the reviews for it were stellar, but it wasn't meant to be. I thought the characters were enjoyable, although some of them were less than believable (i.e. Georgia the ninja twin). I loved that Carolina was a multiple since I also have a twin sister and her relationship with Mackenzie was adorable and loving. The sexual chemistry and the tension between them was definitely hot.

But, what really killed it for me were some of the cliches and stereotypes that they continued to emphasize over the course of the novel. I felt like I'd read the same passage at least ten times all related to Southerners, food, iced tea, etc. In the end, it left me rather irritated. I started off reading what I thought was a contemporary romance to be thrown into a paranormal romance all within the last fifty or so pages. The head hopping got to be a bit much after a while not to mention I thought I would go crazy trying to remember every one of the characters being thrown at me. Despite my misgivings, I continued because of the introduction of David and the story line really does hook you no matter how much you want to stop reading.

I have had this book on my kindle since 2013 and I have only just now got around to reading it. Whilst this was a fun read which I did enjoy, I think the content could have been said in far less pages than 600 plus.

The first section of the book which is where Makenzie is chasing and sweet talking Carolina and she is just ignoring him and responding to a degree could have been done in far less words. I was beginning to get weary of it all. When David enters the story is when it gets a lot more interesting for me. However, again the book was far too long (in my view) for what the actual content was.

Definitely worth a read

Life changing and worth every penny!

As far as kindle books go, this one is a little on the expensive side so I was slightly reluctant to purchase it. I got the free sample and HAD to know what happened. I purchased it and was not disappointed at all. This book is Awesome!

It made me laugh, made me cry, and made me want to search the globe for more works from this author. I would recommend it a million times over!

Fiyah!!

This was an epic journey of love, healing, protection, family and faith. Carolina and Mackenzie are successful, headstrong and used to getting their way. They meet, fall in love and fight the love before willingly throw themselves into love. They claim a baby boy and begin life as a family. In the process, there is the usual mayhem that comes from the insane mind of Ms. Jeanie Johnson. This is an awesome tale that all readers of IR romance and paranormal romance will enjoy.

Well done JJ.
