The Beginning Of The End by Michael Snyder

Rate this book
The Beginning of the End is the first novel by Michael T. Snyder, the publisher of The Economic Collapse Blog. If you want to know what things in America are going to look like in a few years, you need to read this book. The Beginning of the End is a mystery/thriller set in the United States in the near future. It is a time of unprecedented economic collapse, deep political corruption, accelerating social decay, out of control rioting in the cities and great natural disasters. In the midst of all of this chaos, a former CIA agent, a respected financial reporter and a blogger that takes his prepping to extremes all find themselves dropped into the middle of an ancient conflict between two shadowy international organizations. The three of them are absolutely horrified to discover that one of those shadowy international organizations is planning to hit New York City with the largest terror attack in U.S. history. The goal is to throw the entire country into chaos, but who will get the blame? A series of incredibly shocking twists and turns ultimately culminates in a wild cross country chase that leads up to a surprising ending that most readers will not see coming. A great storm is coming to America, and time is quickly running out. The Beginning of the End is a great book to give to anyone that is still not prepared for what is ahead. It is a wildly entertaining, fast-paced page-turner that is packed with an abundance of twists and turns that many readers will find difficult to put down, but it is also designed to communicate a tremendous amount of truth at the same time. This book is not just intended to entertain people - the explosive truths contained in this novel could literally change the world. If you have always felt a desire to be a part of something bigger than yourself, or if you are just a fan of great apocalyptic fiction, then you definitely should read The Beginning of the End. We are moving into the most unstable time in all of human history, and cataclysmic changes are coming. This is one book that will help you get prepared for what is ahead.

Poorly written -- particularly in the area of word choice. You could have cut out 40% of the words from the average chapter without removing any actual story elements.

That said, Snyder has an interesting perspective on the economy and has written a more than serviceable doomer plot that is above average for the genre.

A great story. But I just don't like to mix action and thriller with religion.

It had a great idea, but was poorly executed. It could have been a lot more believable without adding religion and supernatural events.

Had no idea this book would try to convert me to the church at the end

I liked it. Very entertaining. Fast paced. Easy to follow. Don't let others reviews about "religion" scare you off. It's really just a book about good vs evil. I am a Christian and didn't even pick up on the spiritual stuff that others complain about until I was 3/4 of the way through it. Was disappointed that this is not a series of books. Maybe that is still to come? First time writing fiction for the author I believe. Some of the other complaints here about authors word choices and such; I did not have the same comaints. I would recommend.

Interesting plot except for the last few chapters where it became ridiculous with religion thrown in. Badly written, unrealistic conversations, more like a Dick and Jane children’s book, or talking to a toddler. Very amateurish. No page numbers. Constant use of words like fortunately / unfortunately, absolutely, tremendous scattered throughout each paragraph. Certainly NOT what I expected. It was self-published which explains why it was printed at all.

Join the Remnants

A very good book that reveals what is happening right now in the world.
More and more people are joining the Remnants all over the world.
Michael Snyder has given us a straightforward look into the future and he has shown the answer.
I hope that many others read and consider the question of life and death offered in this book.

Ok story

I liked the parallels between the story and current events. I am fine with the proselytizing at the end.

I didn't like the story hinging on so many last second miraculous escapes. That was a little too much mission impossible.

This book inspires reflection upon America’s current direction and outlines an action-packed scenario as it is played out by a variety of characters while America crumbles beneath the weight of economic failure, increasing crime and the manipulations of a secret agency. I am not drawn to futuristic novels but there were only a couple of references whereby the reader was reminded of that fact, one of which was emphasized by the use of a particular character.
My critique would be that I constantly found myself mentally replacing the repetition of a character’s name throughout a paragraph with the insertion of ‘he’ and ‘she’ instead. However, that in itself was a marginal irritant compared with the page-turning action of the story which motivated me to keep on reading.
Finally, there is no reference to religion within the main content of the book but in an addendum entitled ‘The Most Important Thing’. For those readers for whom faith and reading the Bible are already part of their lives, they will relate to the prophecy contained therein. For others who are perhaps offended by any mention of religion, or doubt the impact God has upon our ordinary, everyday lives, I hope and pray that the author’s conclusion will provoke a deeper response for them to seek the truth. Eternal life is not a reward for simply being a good person, or merely doing good works and so it is crucial to understand that the only path is through faith.

I did like the undertones of some evil/secret group trying to control the banking and government to bend there ideologies to there own gain. The two things I did not care for was the author overusing characters names in a simple paragraph. I think people are smart enough when reading that the characters name does not need to be repeated a gazillion times over and over; secondly was the author using the end of the book as a platform to push religion on people. I am Catholic and Christian, and I find it hard to believe that because others in this world do not believe in God or my God, that they are doomed or not able to enjoy eternal life. It is great that the author found Jesus, and that he wants others to find Jesus, but don't stand in judgement of me because of how I choose to live my life or how others live there lives. You follow the commandments, good for you, I hope you get a front row seat in heaven. If you want to write fiction, stick with writing fiction, don't insert your babbler at the end of the book.

A very good book, it had a good plot and lots of action, a god thriller. It didn't mix religion into the story much at all contrary to what many other people have reviewed, the religious views at the end AFTER the book had ended were not affiliated with the book, and the content dealing with religion in the book wasn't compulsory, and the characters themselves didn't convert. Not that being converted is bad, I am merely saying the author was very neutral and wrote a great book.

Fast paced and well imagined. How striking to think the good guys want to seek refuge by escaping the United States! Describing end times necessitates a conception of religion in my view and I found this book to be actually light in dogma yet true to the idea of Good and Evil being a choice of conscience and will and outside the mundane. The book could have used some editing and development, but it was accessible and enjoyable. I hope Mr. Snyder writes some more.

A gripping novel about the power of hidden government forces and a few informed individuals who would expose them while still trying to stay alive. Intense reading and predictive of what could happen when the actions of a few can affect the lives of so many.
