I can't really save any of these 3 novels even if of course Krentz is the best writer.
The cougar sounds racist with all those hocus-pocus just because they are half Natives. The plot was exceedingly boring and about nothing. But if I could I would give it negative stars for the homeopathic theme. Saying that homeopathy really cures is like writing that sex with strangers should happen without a condom. A folly. Romance isn't a school book but some things should not be treated as a joke.
And if you think I'm going around the bend the heroine cures herself after a car accident that almost killed her with arnica and in 3 days she walks and has no problems.
Odd man out is supposed to be a romantic suspense. But I read it like a Nancy Drew wannabe that knows nothing, is thicker than a brick and stumbles around mucking things. Together with the singer sidekick. Let's not talk about the law...

Out of all three stories my fave would have to be The Cougar by Lindsay McKenna, and not just because she's such a good author either!! Though I did think that the title was pretty horrible, and not that original or creative, the story was amazing!!
It's a modern day cowboy Romeo & Juliet story. Jim Cunningham has had a secret crush on Rachel Donovan for years! But, couldn't say so since their families have been feuding for a century. Form chasing one another at school to tugging on her braids (so junior high sweet lol), he's loved her and thought her beautiful.
When Rachel comes back to town, both left as soon as they turned 18 since their fathers are crazy in sum, for her sisters' double wedding, she runs into Jim after a horrible car crash off the cliffs in Arizona during a rare bad case of snowy weather. Jim and Rachel have to not only fight the town gossip, their families hatred is known across many counties, but their own families as well if they want to stay together and finally have that life of their own they've always dreamed of.
Unfortunately, Jim's two older brothers, Bo and Chet, have a hand in trying to get rid of the 'damn Donovan bitch' and to keep their blood out of theirs.
All in all, this is definitely one to read if you liked Romeo & Juliet or anyother modern day story that follows that stroy line.

Given that I normally like Krentz's novels, I was very surprise to be completely turned off by both lead characters - primarily Rafe, but Margaret was initially very closed off - in "The Cowboy". Her coldness was explained soon enough, but it took a long time to discover Rafe's softer side. In my opinion, of the three short stories included in Tough Enough Lindsay McKenna's "The Cougar" was the most successful read. I liked all of the characters and the plot was enjoyable. I also enjoyed B.J. Daniels' very brief who-done-it romance.

Three romance stories. All about cowboys. Couldn't like Rafe from Jayne Ann Krent's story. He was too strong willed and didn't listen. Liked the other two "heroes". Liked the slightly supernatural spin to Linsay McKenna's story. Really liked how short B.J. Daniels story was compared to the longer (and rambling) of the previous two.

I only read Murder at Last Chance Ranch because I like everything written by BJ Daniels. It was a very small portion of the book.

Lindsay McKenna's story was the best overall, B.J. Daniels story was only about 50 pages so while I enjoyed it, it seemed to be over before it started.

I was a little disappointed. I love BJ Daniels but her story was the shortest and not one of my favorites.
