Every teenager wants to fit in, and Christian Pearson is no different. He is a phenomenon on the athletic field and in the classroom, but a terrifying accident on a fishing trip with his grandfather changes Christian's life forever. As he enters his freshman year of high school, Christian hides a secret that he plans to take to his grave.

When the Pearson family moved from the city to the sleepy town of Red Oak, Iowa, before his freshman year of high school, Christian hoped for a smooth transition to small town life. Being the new kid in school has been a blessing and a curse. Most of the boys in Christian's class view him as a threat, so Christian struggles to fit it, but as an outcast, his secret is safe.

When three freshmen, all from the same family, start school a week late, Christian senses something different about these new students. He reaches out to "The Three" seeking some semblance of friendship in his new hometown.

When "The Three" confront Christian about the secret he hides, Christian is faced with a huge problem. Will this secret cost Christian his friends, his family, his freedom, and even his life?

This is a GREAT book! I liked it because for kids my age it is sometimes hard to find a book to read. This is a book that pulls you in right in the beginning.
Alexis Banner would be my favorite character. I like Alexis because she seems strong and is always looking out for Sam, Ray, and Christian. I think that everyone should read this book because it's very interesting and has you always reading. When I started reading it, I did not want to put it down.

Amazing! This book literally started with a bang, or a tornado, and just kept getting better. Yes, it begins with a tornado chasing after the main character. He has just finished a fishing trip with a cousin and his grandpa. A tornado destroys the truck they are in. Christian ends up at the bottom of a lake inside the truck and guess what, he can breathe under water... This all happens in New Mexico, yup, the land of UFO's. This is not a story about UFO's but rather about phenomenon children. Confused? Don't be, just sit back, read and enjoy the ride.
Chris Raabe does a great job with character development. Christian is a down to earth kid, not a smart mouth or a jerk. His friends are equally pleasant. Don't get me wrong, they are normal kids. There is a deep family connection in this book. I am looking forward to the sequel that is sure to come.
Genre: middle school age kids

This book captivated my attention from the beginning to the end. I found it to be a fast paced drama that should easily appeal to the young adults............or washed-up, middle aged adults that grew up dreaming of super human abilities when they were kids! Of course, I especially enjoyed and appreciated the dynamic relationships between family, friends and foes; and the high school drama and sporting flare, which made me reminisce of times long past.

Mr. Raabe certainly has a gift of his own, which is apparent with this read! I would highly recommend this book and I cannot wait for the sequel!

Well... I am so excited that my 13 year old boy is also reading The New Phenomenon. He plays football, loves to fish, and went to pre school with Chris's daughter, so if he was going to pick up a book, this would be it! Chris came to his middle school, (where he use to teach), and talked to the kids. He apparently made SOME impact, to get my buddy to pick up, and read!

I thought The New Phenomenon was well written. It was fun to read about interactions, and small town life. Good job on your first book, Chris!

I finished the book in record time. It's a real "page-turner" even for me, an oldster. The characters are believable, although their secret is something we could only wish for. Chris Raabe really understands how young teenagers think and react to the various situations they find themselves in. Kudos to a budding young author.

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Is that sufficient to sum up how I feel about The New Phenomenon?

Okay, it's not. So, let me just say this:

I LOVED THIS BOOK.

All caps completely necessary. Really, it was awesome. The action starts right away and the story stays interesting up until the very end. At one point, I was worried that the book was going to take a turn into the cliched government-is-after-kids-with-superpowers story, but it didn't. I was so glad when it didn't turn out that way; if it had become a cliche, I would have been incredibly disappointed. I don't want to give too much away about the book, but I will say this: the reason it didn't become a cliche for me was because of Roswell. When Roswell, New Mexico first came up in the book, I thought, "Here we go. Time for aliens." But Chris Raabe takes all the UFO stories about Roswell and spins an awesome explanation for them. Being from New Mexico, I really appreciated this.

I loved the wholesome aspect of this book. Small town life was realistically portrayed, and Chris Raabe did a great job of portraying life for teenagers in a small town, where football is the big thing, and the high school students throw parties and drink after the games, while creating a character who plays football but doesn't conform to his peers' standards. Christian was great. I loved it that he was a football player but that he didn't go out partying and drinking. I loved it that he loved his family and that he cared about positive things, like doing well in school, doing well in football, and staying out of trouble. I loved it that he was a positive role model for his sisters, even though we didn't see much of his sisters in the book.
There really isn't much that I didn't love about this book. I fell in love with Christian and his friends, Alexis, Ray, and Samantha. Alexis was my favorite character; I felt completely drawn to her, even though she's a relatively private character in that she doesn't reveal everything about herself. I loved what she added to the story, and I want to know more about her. The descriptions of the town are great; it was easy to imagine everything. The story is intriguing and kept my interest throughout the novel.

The way the novel ends sets it up for a sequel, and I really hope there's going to be a sequel, because I need to know what's going to happen next. The New Phenomenon is one of the best books I've read that deals with teenagers having unusual abilities. I can't wait for to read whatever Chris Raabe has in store for us next, sequel or otherwise.

The New Phenomenon is a fantastic book about a boy named Christian, Christian moves to a small town called Red Oak Iowa, there he is the new student, and in this small town everybody knows his business. Before school started Christian got in an accident and he got this strange ability, and he knows that if he tells anyone about this ability he could get into big trouble.
I really liked this book, and not just because my English teacher wrote the book, but because it was truly good. I liked the fact that the book was a page turner, it kept me wanting to read the whole time! There was action/adventure, suspense, and a hint of romance between characters. The book is well written and I LOVED this book.
My favorite character in the book is the girl named Alexis. Alexis is among the new group of students that join Christian's school late, that group is called "The 3". The 3 are all mysterious students because they all like to stick with there own group. The reason I like Alexis is because she is tough, strong and acts calm when the situation isn't always the best.
I really do think that others should read the book because it is really good, and it will keep you interested.

I loved the book Mr. Raabe. It's one of the few books that deals with teenagers and how they really react to situations like these. I looked forward to read it every day I woke up and every class period I hoped for time to continue the adventure alongside Christian. I have even recommended it to others and I hope they too, read and enjoy it as much as I did.
I have to say, Christian was my favorite character. He was the character that we observed the story through and it was amazing to see things the way he did. He is not like most people. Christian is great at sports, which I admire very much, and he has a great and innovative mind and attitude towards everything.
I DEFINITELY know that most people would be astonished at the pure greatness of this story. It is a page turner and almost impossible to put down. I would stay up to 11:30 some nights reading your book just to find out what happens next. I would recommend your book to anyone with a craving for a great storyline and provocative suspense and peril. Astounding job well done.

The New Phenom3non is a fantastic book! It is well written and you can really relate to it. There is something everyone can relate to from annoying little sisters, friend drama, or sports. Everyone should read it because there is somthing that everyone likes. There is romance, action, and super natral abilities. With so many different genres you think it would be over welming, but it is put together very well.
The characters are very well developed even for not being a major role. My favorite character would have to be Samantha. Part of it has to do with us sharing a name. but i also like her bubbly personality and how she just seems like a nice person. Though I like Samantha the best, Alexis is a close second! With her being able to stare down the tuffest of guys she seems to be someone you want on your side!
All in all The New Phenom3non is an amazing book that everyone should read. It is kid friendly, a quick read, and a well written book.

I thought this book was one that my 12 year old son would interested in, so I wanted to check it out it first to make sure it was appropriate before letting him read it. I loved the story, and I definitely think my son will enjoy this book as well. Having grown up in a small town, I felt the author accurately protrayed life in a small town and school, and I enjoyed that aspect of the story. The book has a lot of action and drama in it to keep your interest, and I especially loved that Christian, the main character, was not afraid to stand up for himself and was able to make friends without caving into peer pressure to be accepted in a new school. I thought the author did a great job of setting up the story line to be continued in a series and I am looking forward to seeing what is in store for Christian and his new phenomenom friends!

I love this book! The action is what I like the most because it starts right at the beginning. I also like how after you start the book you don't want to put it down. It keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to find out more. It has really good vocabulary. It gives great detail on everything and would be a fantastic movie.
My favorite character was Alexis. She is my favorite because she plays volleyball and her ability. I think it would be pretty cool to have the ability to hear from far away. Also, because she is daring and isn't afraid to take risks.
Other people should read this book because its a really good book. It keeps you reading and wanting more. The story that it tells is really good too. It also teaches a few lessons. This is an awesome book!!

For one, i absolutely LOVED this book! I couldn't put it down from the minute i got it, every day i would look forward to reading it. I liked this book because it is very easy to relate to and it also has action but yet some romance. My favorite character has to be Sam because she is very sassy but sweet, she kept bringing excitement to the book. Sam is also funny and smart, she is kind, romantic, and my favorite character.

Other people should read this book because it has something for everyone, sports, action, and romance. This is a book almost anyone can relate so that makes it easy to follow. Mr.Raabe did an amazing job writing this book, from planning it, to published final copy. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time.... I WANT MORE!

What I liked about the book was the suspense and the dramatic twists. At the end of chapters and sometimes even at the beginning or middle of a chapter a surprise waits for you. It keeps you reading. My favorite character was Grandpa Pearson. He would never run away from danger and he always kept his cool during hairy situations. You should read this book because it relates so much with real life.

In this book so many things happen to characters that if you skip a chapter you would be totally lost. Also, it's easy to read, you don't have to look up every other word in the dictionary because it is not a word that used often. Everyone should read this book because it fits so many genres like mystery, realistic fiction, and even a little bit of sci-fi.

This book is one of the best i have ever read! it has things for almost every reader, action for the guys, and even a little romance for the girls. There is even a few supspensful moments, which made me not want to stop reading! I almost read the book all night on the weekends it was so good. When I got to the end, i was so sad! But then I remembered there was going to be another book.

This is one of the few books I have read where I can relate to the characters as if I was standing right next to them, experiencing it too. Christian is so easy to relate too. Well, except for his secret of course. Once you start reading the book, its a very fluid experience, not being able to put the book down, almost as if its super-glued to my eyes! Great job Mr.Raabe!

We learn the most about Christian. If I had to choose one of the "special talents" to have, I would choose Christian's.
This book is great entertainment. I recommend this book to everybody. When I read it I could not put it down! I really think that the New Phenomenon would make a great movie. I hope it will be!
The New Phenomenon has a lot of "what's going to happen next?" moments.

A real page turner, I couldn't put the book down. Typically I don't have time to read much but with this novel I made the time, I had to know what would happen next. Now I am anxiously waiting for the sequel, I have to know what Christian, Alexis, Sam and Ray do next.

Christian is a very likable character but Grandpa was the one I wanted to know more about. I hope his full story is eventually revealed.

I thought the book was a little slow after the twister, but when Christen met "the three", the book progressively took off. My favorite character was Brad because he was a laid back, sporty kind of guy. I liked this book because it was based on a middle school scenario with a little fiction twist. He faced the common problem of fitting into a new school. This is a great book to read if you are a new student at a new school, trying to fit in.
