On the hunt for a book that my daughter and I could consume in one day we ran across My Enchanted Life. Yeah! I had been chosen to review the book as part of Read to Review. I was so excited. Thank you Laura Eno and R2R for providing me a copy! So I down loaded and Macy and I immediately jumped in. Laura Eno did something no other author has managed to do in long while. As I read alongside my daughter this enchanting tale of young Emma, I was reminded of my own childhood and fairy tale adventures.

The tale is simple but elegantly written. A perfect way to spend a beautiful afternoon perched under the canopy of a shade tree, with your daughter and book. Together, Macy and I ventured with young Emma across the pond to England and through a magical vale that took us mythological delight.

Emma raised loving by her Aunt and Uncle after her mother dies, turn eighteen and is delivered a mysterious letter that informs her father’s brother has passed and he has left the homestead to her. The next morning another mysterious package is delivered with everything she needs to travel to her newly acquired home. With passport and funny money in hand Emma board a plane looking for a summer adventure to share with her friends and what she finds is more that she could bargained for.

Adults will have issues with how fast Emma accepts things but the child will squeal with delight just as my daughter did. I loved it; although it was a little short, it was not left wanting. It had all the right ingredients to keep me intrigued until the very end. If you are looking for something to pass the time between books defiantly give this a read, I can almost guarantee you will wear a smile on your face. It would make a great gift for children grades four (4) and up.

Emma is just a regular girl until she gets a mysterious letter telling her that her uncle from England has passed away and she inherited his house. When she goes to check out the house on what she thinks will be a fun vacation to England, she discovers that the town isn't a normal town, and that she isn't who she thinks she is.

The book had potential. It was a light and easy read with a cute story. Unfortunately, there wasn't much depth to it. There was very little world building or character building. Emma's job is supposed to be sentinel to the gate. I'm still not sure what the gate is supposed to do, how evil gets through it (I'm guessing that's what she's supposed to be protecting against), or what the evil purposes would be for someone who went through the gate. In the same sense, I'm not really sure how she's supposed to guard the gate, as she didn't really do any guarding. Most of the story was just her meeting different townspeople or going on adventures.

My ability to connect to the character is strongly correlated with how much I'll like the book. Honestly, we were introduced to most of the characters so quickly that I didn't even remember who was who. I'd say I kept flipping back to remind myself, but I didn't really care enough to do so and so I just continued reading till I figured it out. And the relationships between the characters felt forced and not believable.

I would recommend this book for younger kids, maybe middle school age. It just wasn't for me.

This was such a fantastic, enjoyable read that I just could not put down. The story has a fresh, unique appeal and it whisked me away to a lovely fairytale world of love, acceptance and friendship.

There is such a wonderful array of magical creatures in this story. From Faeries to Gnomes, and even a lingering Spirit. My favorite has to be Cussard. He is an awesome, loveable dragon...I want one!!

The only thing I found missing in the story was tension and depth. So much happened to Emma, and she just seemed to weave her way out of each situation with such ease. But having said this, it in no way took away from the beauty of this book.

Thank you to R2R and Laura Eno, for giving me such a light-hearted, fun read.

At first, I was skeptical of the book. From the synopsis, I wasn't sure I would like it. However, was I in for a surprise. The book is terrific & leaves you wanting more!

On her 18th birthday, Emma Winslow (our protagonist) is told she has inherited a house in England from an uncle she never hear of. Well, imagine her surprise! Once the shock wears off, she decides to journey to England, to the town of Wode Gate. Thinking it just a way to spend a month off before college, she packs her bags and off she goes.

Little does she realize that Wode Gate is "between worlds" and unable to be seen by normal people. It's a magical space occupied by all sorts of fantastic creatures such as elves, gnomes, fairies, and even a dragon! She soon falls in love with the town and it's inhabitants & they with her.

Soon after arriving, she is told, she it the Sentinel, the guardian of Wode Gate & that she cannot leave to return to her old life. That is she does so, she will die (Sentinels cannot be away from their gates but for short periods of time).

Emma is helped through her "adjustment" to her new life by her housekeeper, Lizzy (a cursed numph) & Randolph, another Sentinel who has been sent to "teach" her how to be what she is (& has a very off-putting manner).

This book takes you through Emma's adjustment to a magical life in Wode Gate and all the people & perils she encounters. In an effort not to give away anything, I will leave my review at this.

The book is excellent and though classified as a YA read, I think readers of all ages will find it enjoyable. I would HIGHLY recommend it!

I adored this book. A teenage girl inherits a house in England and she discovers whole new world. On her 18th birthday she receives a gift: a house. She grabs the chance for new adventure. From a very normal teenage life, she enters in a world of fairies, ghosts, goblins, demons. What a turn-over! Emma finds out about her family more than she could ever imagine.

I loved Emma's character. She knows what she likes and she fights for it no matter what. Growing up with her uncle and aunt after the death of her parents, she is person who grabs every chance in life with both hands.

The story was well narrated and easy to follow. Fun, entertaining, and light reading. The author created a magical world which I didn't want to leave. I would definitely recommend this book.

I enjoyed reading this book:) it was a nice read that wasn't too dramatic, but kept you interested and guessing what would happen next. The characters were all great, and the world that was created was great. I liked how it worked in the end.
It was a good book, for a light, fun read.

My Enchanted Life is a very fluffy, fast read. It probably took me a few hours to finish it and there’s definitely no deep thinking required. In the book Emma finds herself inheriting a home in England and moving there right out of high school. The house is in a mysterious, magical town that only other magical people can see without help. Her role is to act as Sentinel, a type of guardian watching over Wode Gates. These gates open between worlds, ours, Chaos, the Underworld, etc. Demons would love nothing more than to slip through said gates and wander through our world. This is a big change for Emma and if that wasn't enough, someone is out to keep her from getting her job done, not that she even wants the job. If you love light fluff, instant spark and romance and good guys winning, here it is. If you like depth, a little darkness, and an emotional, lyrical read, this ain’t it.

Emma is a typical teenage girl (?) just graduating from senior year (?) and living in Georgia (?). I think. The start is rushed. There’s really no introduction and the beginning is used to build heavy handed foreshadowing. Emma mopes about missing home throughout the book but I never felt for her because no relationship was built with the place and people of her home. How can I miss something with a character when I have no connection?

I wanted to like this book. I’m a sucker for fairies. I’m an even bigger sucker for ya fairies. Emma is literally handed a house in England as part of an inheritance and yet has no questions. There’s a minimum of protest from her aunt and uncle and Emma never once thinks “this could be bad” with any real feeling. When she arrives in England, surprise, she’s got special powers. I like this idea, my issue is with the execution. There’s a hot guy trying to teach her of course and another guy who is oh so wrong, but she has a special magical mind connection with. Oh, and she can teleport which no Sentinel before her could. This was Mary Sue territory for me.

I might have overlooked this but the writing didn't suck me in and felt very rushed. I have no idea if the setting is beautiful, I know how many rooms the house has, but for all I know they’re all blank. I know the guy is hot, the housekeeper is hot/not and the dragon is pretty, but they aren’t described in any way that resonates with me as the reader. There’s a slew of characters we are literally introduced to as “XXXX pops in, says something to character, gives blow by blow description of self and vanishes”. Emma's perfectly sweet, but she's perfectly boring and I didn't see the attraction for 90% of the characters who apparently thought she walked on water.

I’m still not sure what Emma does to protect the Wode Gate, as she does very little protecting the gate, and much more getting into trouble. And what do demons do if they get here? All the demons we met were pretty boring. I assume once here they do things like produce reality television and drive hummers, because there’s no real sense of danger from them. We hit the 50% mark before even a sniff of any such trouble. I’d like to see Emma’s role get built, but there’s none of that. Instead Emma rescues one boy with her magicalness (at least she doesn’t need help, but please don’t confuse weak adversaries with a strong MC dear readers), and then has to save another magical boy with her magicalness because he sacrificed himself for her. I’m not sure how he saw his pansying out as sacrificing because it didn’t protect her from anything and just took her into more danger. Once again dear reader, do not confuse weak, silly males with a strong female.

So – this is a fast, fluffy read with a boy-meets-girl-falls-deeply-in-love/lust story. I've read 'em. I've enjoyed a few. This was unfortunately one I could not lose myself in. Some of you are going to love this. I am not such a person.

This book does not execute "show not tell" with any quality. “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” – Anton Chekhov. Love this. Showing is about imagery. Imagery should be painted, not penned. This book does not achieve anything like this. The author has a great imagination and creativity, but she doesn't take me into the story with her.

My Enchanted Life is, in a nutshell, what I would expect most YA paranormal books to be like. The perfect mix of fantasy, relationships, and coming into one's true self. A very light, simple book that I wouldn't personally choose but can't say I'm not glad I read it. A nice change of pace.

Emma is a young girl who finds out on her eighteenth birthday that she has inherited a home in England from her father, who passed away along with her mother when she was very young. Upon reaching that home, Emma comes to realize her new home is in a magical place, and she is quite magical as well. But everything comes with a price, and not only is she charged with protecting her town, she can no longer leave or she will die. Also, not everyone is happy about her arrival and drama soon follows, along with an unpredictable love interest.

I enjoyed this story because of the author's use of many different magical creatures. There were the typical fairy tale creatures one would expect, but also ones I've never heard of or rarely see. Also, the story is not very sexualized, a fine change of atmosphere. You simply have the story and nothing else. The stemming romance is a piece of the pie, not the filling. Furthermore, the author's writing is very...understandable. Flows well but can't say it's in a beautiful singsong manner.

There isn't much I don't like about this book. The sequence of events flowed well, but maybe a better vocabulary would have made things come to life. There seemed to be a lack of strong descriptions overall and that was disappointing. A little more character development might have helped this story towards five stars.

In short, this is a great story for a pre-teen, early teen who still has a vivid imagination and has yet to be tainted by books of a more sexual allure. Or maybe even an adult like myself who loves to jump out of the box and read things off my own beaten path. The story was a great little ditty which left hint to a sequel which I might actually seek out. Besides a few literary personal issues, I believe My Enchanted Life is a good book.

I received this book to review from a Goodreads group as part of the R2R event. It was a really nice, fast, light read. After the serious mysteries I'd been plunging into the past couple of weeks, "My Enchanted Life" proved to be the distraction my brains needed.
It was intriguing though I can't say it swept me off my feet. I enjoyed it though, so it earned its 3 stars with no question.
There were problems with it however. For example, there was so much telling rather than showing, that I caught myself rolling my eyes on a number of occasions. Conversations were retold instead of written out as they should've been. Many descriptions were cliched rather than thought out exclusively. It was a nice imaginary world, but there was nothing original about it.
Also, the main character, Emma, was constantly talking to herself in what were supposed to be witty little remarks. Yet, instead of sounding witty, they were rather dull.
What annoyed me the most was that every other chapter someone would say something, Emma would look at them wide-eyed and they'll ask her "What? Nobody told you?" Seriously, by the second time I read that, I was already in the know that she had no idea what was happening and the repetition was getting old.
The falling in love was awfully quick and not exactly to my taste.
There was hardly any intrigue, but I guess that made it so light in the first place.

My favorite character was the dragon Cussard. He was funny and friendly and can I say pretty?

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to breeze through something to clear their mind of any difficult/heavy novels.

I received this book courtesy of Read2Review in exchange for an honest review. This book is perfect for a pre-teen getting into the wonderful world of books, but can be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys flights of fancy.

This novella is a rarity, it is exactly what the blurb purports it to be - so there is no need to rehash the synopsis. What the blurb doesn't tell you is that this novella is a delightful, funny, quick and fluffy read. There isn't a deep multilayered saga here - there is the 18year old Emma Winslow's introduction to life at Wode Gate and its inhabitants. Life with those inhabitants could lead to an ongoing series but the book can also be a stand alone.

Emma thinks the strangest thing she'll encounter is the food when she embarks on a vacation to her new house. Emma thinks her friend Pete has read too many fantasy books and has no idea what may lie ahead for her, of course she'll return in a month and pick up her life. Emma thinks she knows about fairytale creatures. Emma is wrong on all counts. Hold onto your everything - you're not in Chadsville, Georgia anymore Emma. It is a very crowded table when everyones personality and creed is present but never over-crowded. You get just enough to understand how or where they fit in the overall place and to keep the door open for further adventures to this world. I loved my visit to Wode Gate!

as always, thanks R2R and Ms. Eno for a copy of this book for a review... If this isn't just the cutest, but awesome book I've read in a while :)

Emma is a small town girl who is raised by her (very lovable) aunt and uncle, when both of her parents die. She actually doesn't remember almost anything of either of her parents, so to her, they aunt & uncle are her parents. One day, a package arrives and she is then in turn literally thrown into a world she doesn't know or understand in England.

She learns that she is somehow a magical being, with powers she isn't supposed to have. I love her growth, and her own internal debates with herself, with how she feels and how she is "supposed" to feel. I love that to EVERYONE (except one) she is nothing but a fresh breath of air, because she treats everyone equally, and gives people the benefit of the doubt. I really really liked this book!

Here's my favorite part... the hot bad boy, is exactly that, they hot bad boy. & the bad guy, you have NO IDEA, cuz I surely didn't hahahaha & I happen to think Emma picked perectly for her... I must say this one was a crazy ride, which had me holding my breath, and cursing ignorance and entitlement and then cheering for the good guys! I really enjoyed this one. 4.5 PAWS FOR ME but there isn't a half star, so I always round up :)

I really appreciate Laura Eno allowing me to read and review her book. While I did receive this for free, that fact in no way influenced my review. My thoughts are my own. I found this book was just at 4♥'s.

This is a very quick, enchanting read. If you don't mind YA, then this is an ideal book if you are looking for something simple; a fast read to clear out the cobwebs left behind by bad books. It really is just so whimsical and sweet... you'll reach the end before you realize.

I really enjoy that writing 'style' is NOT complicated at all; it was such a nice change of pace to not be second guessing ulterior motives for character's actions. What you saw was what you got, and it still kept a smile on my face. This is a book that is relatively innocent, and can be given to a younger audience. I would not feel uncomfortable recommending this to my 12 year old, if I thought he would actually read it. (Sadly, he's not a bookworm like his mom.)

I liked the variety of characters and creatures; I think the dragon is one of my favorites. While is does have a plot, and the necessary 'drama' it's not overly deep. If you're looking for a uncomplicated, light read involving magical beings that is appropriate for a large age range, then look no further.

This was a really great book! It roped me in from the very beginning and I didn't put it down till I devoured every last bit of it.
What made this book so great? The world Ms. Eno created, it was so easy to picture. I especially loved the description of Cussard, I could see all the colors in his scales and eyes and the smoke rings that he'd puff around her. Just fantastic!
Emma was a good character, still a teen and coming to terms with the responsibility of being a Sentinel. She had lots of inner monologue but I never got the feeling I sometimes get with other YA characters, you know the "blah, blah, blah effect" and she stayed true to herself which is great to see in such a young heroine.

I can't wait to see how some of the supporting characters turn out for the sequel, there will be one right? Anyway, Matthew is gonna have his own personal "demons" to fight and I hope it doesn't strain the relationship too much. Also, what's going to happen with Randolph? I doubt he just went back to his gate. Hmm... the possibilities.

I look forward to reading the next installment, I hope it's out soon.

Our Heroine Emma is turning 18 and unbeknownst to her she is also coming into her birthright on her father's side. On the day of her Birthday a stranger knocks at her door, verifies she is who she is supposed to be, hands her an envelope and leaves. Upon opening the envelope she comes to find that she has inherited a house, in England, from her Uncle on her father's side. She decides to take a month vacation in England before college starts and recieves her ticket, money and directions to get to the house.

When she arrives in England she meets an unsavory character by the name of Randolph. He is there to introduce her to the house and her birthright of being the Sentinel of Wode Gate. In what follows is an exciting turn of events for Emma's love life, heritage, and acceptance of her role of Sentinel.

I really loved this book and there was some surprises along the way, that I just wasn't expecting. I would suggest the book for anyone. Unless you are a curmudgeon, you should enjoy this tale.

I really enjoyed this book. Emma was a great character to get to know. I found her exuberance and surprise in finding about her heritage and Wode Gate very entertaining. The author took great care in developing Emma as well as the secondary characters in a very interesting magical world. She did this very well, with great pacing and excellent writing. Not once did feel overwhelmed or bored with details. It was like I was taking the adventure right along with Emma.

Thanks again to the folks at Read 2 Review for the opportunity to review this book. It was an amazing treat!

I think this was a cute story. It wasn't really my thing, it felt simple and I felt no real connection with the main characters. I think this story needs to be edited just a little bit more, some things just felt kinda empty while the story in general was very good and original! I guess that if I don't feel any sympathy for our main romance-boy, that a book kinda missed something.
All in all, worth my time. It was a nice story, the characters a bit flat but nice as well. I would suggest this for a younger audience, girls (and boys) between 12-14.

This was another fun book I got through Read2Review from Goodreads and I would like to thank them and the author Laura Eno for this very mystical and very whimsical type of book!!!

I have to say, I don't usually read books with magical creatures in them, except for the usual vampire or werewolf here or there, but this book was just simply fun!! I liked the story, plot, main character and all the fun and loving and very interesting creatures!!! It was something different and something fresh....and I enjoyed it! It was light, a quick read and just vey nice and refreshing!

So, the story is about Emma, an 18 year old girl, who finds out that she has inherited a house in the English countryside from a long lost uncle. Along with the house, Emma also got cash and a plane ticket straight to England, so she could see her estate. When Emma arrives at her house, she discovers not only some house but also a whole new magical world full of gnomes, nymphs, dragons, ghosts and demons. And then on top of all of that, she also finds out that she is a Sentinel and that it is her job and responsibility to keep the magical and mundane worlds separate and to protect all the creatures...her people, living in Wode Gate (her community) safe!!!

To be honest, I didn't really expect much out of this book and really thought I would just have to skim it and thus it would be another boring book!! But, boy oh boy, let me tell you how WRONG I was! The story of this book will have you so captivated that you won't be able to put it down! That's what happened to me!!! Don't let the cover of the book fool you....this book truly was magical, in all the right sense with only a few flaws!!!

Besides the plot and story of the book, I also enjoyed Emma. I just really liked her personality and loved how despite everything that was thrown at her she took in the news with her head held high....and only freaked out a little bit.....just a little! My point is for a teenager she accepted and handled her situations very well...and that is what made her such a strong heroine! However, even though she was a strong heroine personality wise, Emma wasn't the strongest main character. I couldn't really connect to Emma on a more personal level. I felt there was something missing from the story and to Emma's potential to be a great main character! But, I loved her interactions with all the different supernatural beings she meets on her trip. I especially enjoyed the grumpy dragon, Cussard. I thought he was a really cute touch to the "seriousness" of Emma's situation!

However, I did have a few problems with the book. The first was the romance. Now, don't get me wrong I like Matthew but I thought it was way too abrupt and fast. But overall, it was a nice touch....I mean who can say No to any type of romance!!! Also, another thing I didn't really enjoy and really annoyed me was the fact that there were so many great characters but we don't know anything about them besides their name and race! I would have really liked to know more about Cussard, Deirdre, and even more about Matthew. Considering, Matthew was a main part of the book and Emma's life..there should have been more to his past. The same thing with the Underworld king and Finn....we don't really get to know them or anything about them. That was a let down! :( But despite, my issues it was still a very enjoyable book to read!

Overall, I would say that My Enchanted Life was a fun, light read and a great book. I enjoyed many things about it and would recommend this to anybody looking for a fun way to pass their time!!! =)

OK, first of all i would like to give a big thanks to Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics group that i have joined on Goodreads because they are the one who gave me a chance to read this book.

So, the story is about a girl, Emma Winslow, and she gets a letter saying she has got a house from her uncle who is dead. But it seems Emma isn't who she thinks she is and the village isn't what you see it as. Now, the next thing is interesting. Emma is a Sentinel. They are very special creatures; their job is to make sure the world remain separate from each other and to help prevent demons from crossing into the mundane world, of course! And then the other thing that gets smacked right straight on her face is that Wode Gate isn't a town, it's a gate-a magical gate.

The plot and the setting in this book is awesome. The plot of this book is what i liked. Laura made this book vague by the villain. You will never guess who the villain really is until you read it so get reading people!

My first thought on this book was that it was a MG (middle grade) book because of the front page and the title. However, when i read this found out it was a YA (young adult) book. The start of this book jumped right onto the main point and then slowly starts to unravel the story. Then when she went to England all the characters that she met was all suspicious to me. I mean how can a house maid look like a model. Also, the setting is creepy but from the first description for Randolph i was drooling. Then the problem came up. *Dramatic music*. Emma has to save herself, her people and most importantly her lover, Matthew from the king of the underworld. Finally, at the end i loved the 6 months later for the conclusion.

And the setting for this book is awesome. Particularly the library. I would love to have my own library in my own house like that one!

~Characters~

Emma's character is brave, mysterious and always straight to the point kind of girl. She's brave because she tries out things that people who be scared of. She's mysterious because you don't know everything from the start. However, when you go on reading the book you find out some shocking facts about her.

Nuh uh uh. I am not reading this! All the characters are awesome.

Cussard (the dragon). I would love to meet him!

Mathew is a demon? No way! As Emma says he looks like an angel!

Lizzy, the house keeper is lovely. She is so kind and thoughtful! And i also feel sorry for her because of the curse she has.

I'm liking Randolph more and more as i read on. But in the end i hate him. He is a peculiar character. In my opinion i thought Emma was going to end up liking Randolph but she still stuck with Matthew. I would have liked it; it would have added a bit of spice to the romance.

However, there was also a little, little confusing moment for is who is the shape shifter that changed into Matthew? Or maybe it's just my stupid brain which is not working properly.

In conclusion, My Enchanted Life is a quick read-the whole story is short-205 pages (can you believe that?)-but its packed with action, romance and all the things you need to know. I would love to read more of Laura's works if i can get my hands on them. So get reading people!

I didn’t have many expectations for this book since I knew little to nothing about it, excluding the fact that I had requested it. When I realised that I had to read it for an upcoming review date, I just dug in without even rereading the synopsis. Sometimes it’s better to jump into a book blindly, without knowing what goes on in the book at all and just experiencing it firsthand. My Enchanted Life was definitely one of those books.

In My Enchanted Life, Emma finds herself relocated to Britain when her uncle dies and leaves her his home. I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like to be eighteen, just out of high school and finding yourself the owner of a home in a country that you haven’t been to since you were born. Emma bravely accepted the duty to go and see what the property was like and landed herself in a world that she never expected.

I knew from starting the book that it was going to be some sort of paranormal YA novel, but I hadn’t expected it to end up being such an intriguing novel. There were so many different types of novels in the YA universe these days that stick to one or two different kinds of concepts; dystopian, vampires vs. werewolves, mermaids, et cetera. It was nice to see that this one had a sort of different concept to it. There were the typical concepts inside of the novel and Emma had some Mary Sue qualities, but there was some uniqueness to it.

I enjoyed that there was a variety of paranormal and that they all lived together. My favourite had to be Cussard, a wonderful dragon that was the colours of the rainbow. He just had such a wonderful personality to him, and while he was supposed to be one of those ‘grumpy’ characters, I enjoyed him. I also have to say that I really liked Randolph despite the fact that he ended up being a jerk in the end. I wanted to see more about him and I really wanted him and Emma to get together.

Out of all the characters, the one I liked the least was Matthew. I was not a fan and I kind of wanted to punch him in the face within moments after first meeting him. Of course the Greek God-esque person with the hard past and the troubled heritage was the one and only fit for Emma. It bothered me, to be quite honest, that he was the one that she ended up with, and despite the fact that I really liked the story, I think it would have been better without his character, even though he was vital for about half of the novel to commence.

My Enchanted Life was an intriguing read, and if there is a sequel I plan on reading it, if only to hope that Emma and Randolph will end up together in the end and to see more of Cussard, Lizzy and the rest of the gang. I wasn’t a huge fan of the main characters, but then again, I usually am not when it comes to a novel. Even the best of them don’t seem to have MCs that I want to fall in love with. It’s the side characters that are my favourite, and Laura Eno managed to give me side characters that I fell in love with, side characters that make the novel one worth reading.

This is a fun and quick read. It is a short book and a light read, no very heavy topics or anything like that. I really enjoyed reading it. The book is about Emma who inherits a house in England and finds out about a fantasy world there.

I really liked the fantasy world and all the different supernatural creatures we meet in this story. I think it is refreshing after reading so many books that only focus on one supernatural creature to read a book that uses so many supernatural creatures. The minpoint is that all the characters itself get less attention because there are so many characters. It is quite easy to distinguish between the characters because they all are a different supernatural type and have a habit or something they do everytime they show up. Like the dragon who is always grumpy and a Fea that always messes with people hair and makes jokes. I did like most of the characters and I also liked Emma, alotugh she was a bit naïve and everyone became her friend a bit too fast.

This book is really short and fast paced. I think this is both a strenght and weakness. I finished this book quickly and kept reading because of the fast pace and wanting to know what happens. But some parts are a bit rushed and events where over before they even started. I also found it was a bit too short, but at the same time I liked it was so short. I found the story a bit too short because at the end there is still many things we don't know about the world and everyone's powers, but at the same this doens't matter that much because it is just such an enjoyable and quick read. The story is also a bit predicatble, at least the overal plot. There are enough small surprises in the story. I also think the story is quite original, especially the part about a gate that connects the worlds where supernatural creatures live.

To conclude a very enjoyable book, the story is fast paced and a quick and light read. If you are looking for a quick and light read that also contains an original story I would certainly recommend this book. I really enjoyed reading this story and I am curious about what other books this author has written.

My Enchanted Life is written by author Laura Eno. I received this book as part of a R2R with Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics! As always, I want to thank the amazing moderators of this group as well as the generosity of the author for allowing me to participate.

This book was a fun and quick read. It comes in at about 180 or so pages. I read it all in one sitting. After Emma turns eighteen, she is bequeathed a house in England by a late Uncle she was unaware she had. Upon her arrival, she quickly realizes things are nothing like the world she just left behind and her new life has taken a crazy turn she's not sure she wants. Faced with all manner of creatures from the supernatural community and budding powers she doesn't know how to control, she has to decide whats important in her life and face who she truly is.

I liked this read. It had some really funny moments as well as touching dramatic moments in it. The characters were unique and I liked the paranormal elements. The authors use of all different type of supernatural characters was refreshing and the story itself was a joy to read. I liked the romance aspect of it as well.

Things I didn't like were, all the scenes seemed so rushed. All the action was rushed. Things jumped from one scene to the next with no segue. Also, there was no character building. I didn't even get a good sense of who these characters were or what they looked like. The world building was unique but could have benefited from a lot more detail.

There is soooooo much potential here to turn this book into a fantastic series. I'd love to see more character depth as well as more information on the world they live in if there's another book. The ending left plenty of room for a second novel and I'd definitely purchase it to see where this intriguing story leads!

My Enchanted Life by Laura Eno is a YA Fantasy. For Emma, the main character, it is a rite of passage. At 18 and barely out of high school, she receives a letter from a British solicitor notifying her that she has inherited a house in England. Since the notification also includes money to come see the house, she sets off on what she thinks will be a vacation before college.

It is anything but.

A taxi ride from the airport to the middle of nowhere is just the beginning of her enchanted life.

Laura Eno has the most vivid imagination and is a most adept teller of fantasy. My Enchanted Life moves quickly with twists and turns and wonderfully thought out characters, some deadly, some loveable. My Enchanted Life is not only a fantasy, it is in part, a love story. In the magical town, there are gnomes, dragons, Sentinels, and villagers, but it is a demon who captures her heart.

My Enchanted Life, like most books, presents the reader with a book question. In this case: Will Emma survive the new world she enters? But unlike other books, it also asks the question: Will she stay in the fantasy world or will she go home to the aunt and uncle who love her and raised her?

I would not be at all surprised to see Laura Eno write another book set in the magical community of Wode Gate. And I would not be surprised to find myself reading it.

I give My Enchanted Life a rating of Hel-of-a-Story.

On Emma's 18th birthday she receives a letter stating she had just inherited her late uncle's home in England. Excited and nervous, she travels to this exotic location she deems a short vacation, to see what her new property. While there she realizes that this isn't just any ole' place and that her vacation may become permanent. Her family history had been hidden from Emma her entire life and the entire lineage comes crashing down around her in the form of elves, demons, dragons, and the discovery that she, herself, is a Sentinel. A Sentinel protects the veil cast around this supernatural world keeping out the mundane world and the demons from the underworld. Will she ever get back to her life in the United States or is she destined to stay in England, the prisoner of a heritage she knew nothing about?

I enjoyed this mystical story and the setting that Emma was unknowingly thrust into. The supernatural characters are not in short supply either. Emma finally learns about the father and uncle she didn't know but is taken aback when she finds out just who and what they were. She quickly accepts the turn events, a little too quickly in some spots, but for a young adult this is perfect. Emma is a very likable character; down-to-earth and not a drama queen. She takes things for how they are and people for who they are. This novel is a nice breath of fresh air in an enchanted world that features love, betrayal, friendship, and excitement.

18-year-old Emma Winslow is settling down for a rocking summer vacation in Georgia before trucking off to college. Except she never makes it. Instead, she finds that she's inherited a house in England, and once she arrives to check it out, it seems she may not ever leave.

This was a totally fun story filled with enchanted worlds and creatures and characters. There's a little bit of evil, a little bit of romance, and a little bit of betrayal. In short, a little bit of everything.

The characters are believable and likeable. Laura's drawn a picturesque world that glitters enchantingly. I like how the seemingly you-just-know-he's-going-to-be-evil characters don't quite turn out that way, characters you think you're going to love...you don't, and characters that you never really paid attention to...you should have. Nothing is quite as it seems in this enchanted world. Yeah, you gotta love that aspect.

I've said it before, but it's worth saying again.

I. Love. Surprises.

If I have one complaint, it's that the pace was a little frantic. This isn't a long story...and it should be. I would have loved if Laura drew the story out, took more time in drawing out scenes. In fact, some of the transitions between scenes were abrupt and could have been a little smoother.

Overall, very enjoyable story, with an ending not too predictable and wholly satisfying...with a peek into a sequel that I'll be sure to read.

I received this book for a read to review on Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics group.

On her 18th birthday, Emma inherits a home in England from her paternal uncle. She never met her paternal uncle. She was orphaned as a baby and raised by her maternal aunt and uncle. After receiving money, a passport, and a plane ticket to visit her new home, Emma travels to England. Once there she discovers her true heritage. She is a Sentinel, guardian of the gate, who protects the mundane world from demons. Her new home is located in a magical world unseen to others. In her new hometown, Emma meets many interesting creatures...dragons, shapeshihfters, gnomes, and demons. She finds love and learns alot about herself.

I really enjoyed the read. The book was a quick read. I remember being 18 and wanting so badly to travel and leave my hometown in the dust. In this book, I was able to do that by reading about Emma. The only issue I had with the book was the fact that her aunt and uncle allowed her to go to England without them. I didn't feel this was realistic.

The end of the book left open the possibility of a series. I do hope there are more books. I am dying to know about the oracles last statement to Emma and about Matthews ability to cope with his demonic powers. I would recommend this book to others.

Review:

This was another book I got from Read2Review on Goodreads, so thanks to the author and the program for giving me the opportunity to review My Enchanted Life. Emma is an 18yr old fresh out of high school when she finds that she has inherited a house in the English countryside from a long lost uncle. The house came with some cash and a plane ticket to go to England to see her property. Emma arrives at her house in England to discover a world full of gnomes, dragons, ghosts and demons. She is told she is a Sentinal and it is her job and birthright to keep the magical and mundane worlds apart.

This book was just what I needed! It was a fun, light read that I finished in a couple of hours, nothing heavy or depressing just a great book. Despite it being a short book the author creates a brilliant world with magical creatures and enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. I liked Emma a lot especially as she was learning her powers and adjusting to life in this magical community and I like how she cleverly saves the day. Probably the only complaint I have is that the book was too short I would have liked to know more about the backgrounds of all the creatures and how they ended up in Wode Gate but it was still a great read.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 5/5 I couldn't put it down!

My Enchanted Life is a light-hearted and fun read for anyone who enjoys paranormal romance - particularly YA.
Laura Eno's writing style drew me in immediately. Despite being Indie published, her editing was flawless and I was very impressed by the overall quality of the novel.
In this book, the main character, Emma, finds out on her 18th birthday that she has inherited a house in England and a powerful heritage. When she arrives at her new estate, she's greeted by every manner of enchanted creature you can imagine (except weres and vampires). But elves, sirens, dragons, shape shifters, and even demons, make an appearance. And the house -- it's quite simply enchanted. Eno's descriptions of the creatures and home make you feel like you're really there without slowing down the story.
The twists and turns in the story were also fun and added to the suspense. If I had to pin point the one thing that I didn't quite love, it was that the novel was so lighthearted, I never really believed that Emma was in that great of danger, even when she was. But perhaps that comes from me reading darker novels recently.
I'd say that fans of Ella Enchanted, classic fairy tales, or younger YA in general, will probably love this novel.

American teen Emma knows her life’s about to change—it’s the final summer before college. But a letter from England brings news that turns her every dream on its head. Emma has inherited a house from her long-lost uncle, and the lawyers want her to come and see it, now.

I felt almost as unsettled as Emma when Laura Eno’s novel moved to England, but ignoring occasional un-English details, I soon imagine the village of Witton-le-Wear somewhere in the Cotswolds, perhaps, with stone-built homes, small graveyard, family plots and… all beautifully described and engagingly delighting all my senses.

Then there’s the dragon, a gnome, a demon and more. Poor Emma’s thoroughly perplexed.

Laura Eno’s story brings magic into the mundane as a girl nervously facing change finds courage to make changes of her own. Standing up to the establishment, sticking up for her friends, trusting her instincts and bravely seeking out the truth, Emma’s a fitting hero for teen readers and her story’s filled with fun and mystery. I love the dragon, and I really enjoyed the book.
