I have heard voices in my head since I was just a child. I began writing their stories when I was eight-years-old and sharing them with my best friend. We had a lot of laughs about it and came up with some crazy scenes when we were kids. Since then, my writing has become more serious. I prefer to write stories that do end well, despite the trials and tribulations that my characters go through. So often life deals a hard blow, and it is all in the way that you handle it that makes you a strong and well-rounded person.
Love stories that make you laugh, cry, feel anger and joy are the best stories, and I strive for that goal with each novel I release.
My blog is up and running on my website: www.collettescott.net, where I post news on my upcoming releases. Take a look and have some fun!
So I started this book unsure of what to expect as I have tried several new authors and have been disappointed. Even with some well known authors, I have literally stopped reading before even finishing the book. I am really picky when it comes to what I read because I write as well. I always look for a book with a good flow and well defined, real characters that draw you into the story. This book did just that! It was a great book all the way around and I look forward to the next one in the series. If you are wanting to try out a new author, this book is well worth the money
An ex-military man stands accused of murdering a young drunken woman by the name of Kit he met at a local bar, the only alibi he has hinges on the memory of another gorgeous young woman he met that night. He only has her first name Jamie. Andrew had briefly spoken to Jamie whilst they paid their respective bar bills. He had walked her to her car and followed her part of the way home in his gentlemanly way. Andrew didn't see Jamie after that night, even though he would have loved to, he was really attracted to her that night he had been unable to take his eyes from her. However Jamie was moving away to live with her then fiance to a new job,new City and new life. Andrew was sentenced and basically sent to prison to rot, it was a big change from his previously glowing reputation, , and was still plagued by the nightmares and honourable medical discharge from the Army. Andrew had seen the horrors of battle in Afganistan, and was suffering from the post traumatic stress disorder that had only recently been recognised by the army and that lots of troops had problems with when they returned home from the conflict. Prison life literally was draining the life from Andrew. His grandmother and lawyer David wanted him to fight for a re-trial, but he refused, that was until Jamie stepped forward. Jamie had returned back to the safety of her family after her marriage and relationship failed. Initially she knew nothing of what had happened to Andrew, the man she had so briefly met that night and allowed to follow her home. Then she had heard that that very same man had murdered the drunken girl she remembered from the bar. Jamie cringed and kept quiet as she didn't want her brothers know how careless she had been to allow a now convicted murderer to follow her home. she couldn't help but fell that maybe she had had an extremely lucky escape that night. However after returning to her family base and during a get together with her four brothers, Jamie saw more about Andrews case on a TV programme and certain discrepancies made her believe that he was indeed an innocent man behind bars. After a at time heated discussion with her four very protective brothers she convinced them that she should come forward to help this man. So as not to give away spoiler and to cut my description somewhat shorter. Both Andrew and Jamie still had the feelings that they had felt for each other that night so later they have a relationship. Jamie and her family help Andrew in many ways. They both become an important part of each other lives and families. things seem to finally e turning for the better until Adam, Andrews younger brother comes home from the army. there are lots of mixed feelings between the brothers as Adam had literally cut off Andrew when he was put into prison. Adam is also suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and is always on a knife edge and ready to snap. Andrew tries to help but there seems to be more worrying Adam than he cares to reveal to Andrew at the moment. Things come to a head when Adam tricks Jamie into climbing up a local mountain range with him on a day when a storm is due on the pretext that Andrew is up there upset. Obviously Jamie immediately agrees to accompany Adam thinking she is going somewhere to help Andrew. Things are not what Jamie thinks and the situation rapidly spiral out of control.
Wow! I have to say after reading Forever Sunshine I didn't think I would read a book as well written as that again. Collette has done it again! Its written so well that you feel the uselessness that Andrew feels locked away in prison for an horrific murder he did not commit. You feel his frustration at trying to talk and get through to his brother Adam. You also feel the warmness and closeness of Jamie's family and the love they have for each other.Collette writes it so well that you feel the different characters emotions as well as understanding how and why things happens as they do. I loved the whole tentative relationship between Jamie and Andrew, the way neither though it possible that the other would have feelings for them. Jamie shows such love and patience with Andrew until he finally trusts her enough to open his heart to her and tell her he loves her. I also thought it great the relationship Jamie had with her four brothers, the way any man in her life had to pass their scrutiny and feel their rage and wrath if the man upset Jamie. Both the main characters have had tragedy in their past when they were younger and have had to carry on with life as best as they could. I have to admit I had an inkling as to who Kit's murderer really was but it in no way spoilt the book. The book flows so well, you just don't want to put it down, until you have finished. It took me just three sessions of reading to go through the book. Collette writes so well that you can visualise what is happening in your head, as though seeing the action on TV or in a film, but better! I feel so privileged at being allowed to read this book before it has even officially been published. I would recommend this book totally. In my opinion it is suitable for a wide age range. I tend to read a lot of fantasy, mystical, and paranormal books so this isn't in my heavily read genre but I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey it took me on reading it. The characters are so realistic and believable too. I truly cannot fault the book in any way! Just one question to finish with.....when's the next book come out after this one?
Okay so I only read this book because it was free but wow! I fell instantly for the story line & the characters. This is not something I would normally read but it came easy to me with the way it was written & kept me intrigued. I had so much hope with the beginning of the book then it was crushed only a few short chapters in only to slowly be built back up through the rest of the book. I could not believe the curve ball that was thrown in at the end but I can say it added to it all the more & made complete since. I really enjoyed how the author would jump from Andrew to Jamie. To be able to see what each one was thinking make it even more appealing for me. Instead of just a one sided story, which with a story so personal and deep I loved. I am so amazed with this book. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat at times & I did not want to put it down. Can't wait to see what book two has to offer considering I purchased it as soon as I was finished with this one.
This isn't the kind of book I would usually pick up, but I saw a description on a reader FB page and had to give it a go. The story is original (which I don't see alot of anymore as everything seems to have been done a million times) and the characters were likable - especially Jamie's brothers!
Andrew was sent to prison for murder and it isn't until THREE years later that Jamie watches a documentary about it on TV and realises he couldn't have done it, because he was with her! ...cool right?
It was a sweet story with some unexpected drama at the end that I kind of saw coming and yet also didn't expect from this book at the same time.
Although I did like the story and the characters, it was still a little wordy (I know- bear with me) in places where I wished the author would skim, so a detailed explanation of the courts process when we could have gotten by without one. Whereas she would then bypass the "good" stuff between Andrew and Jamie and I just wish we'd had a little less knowledge of the justice system and a little more insight into those big moments that were ultimately kept private. I also really hoped for an epilogue but that wasn't to be either.
This was an ok book. I didn’t really get into it till halfway through it. There was times I wanted to put it down but continued to read it. I’m undecided if I will read the rest
Collette Scott has written an awesome story of two individuals dealing with misfortunes in life. Jamie, recently divorced, returns home for the support and security of four brothers. Andrew, an Iraq war veteran, returns home with scars and post traumatic syndrome. He is let down by his fellow Americans who too quickly believe him to be the guilty person who murdered a woman he briefly met in a bar. This is a realistic story told with much compassion and warmth. At times it is heart wrenching, but finally, love mends all. A good read!
this was truly a wonderful book. I just loved it. It was a different kind of read for romance, but the story was great. It was about Andrew and Jamie and a story that took years and fate to bring them back together. Jamie is really a witness to a crime Andrew was convicted of, but she didn't realize it until she returns home five years later. If you have the time please read this book it is great
A very brief encounter starts off the book, Jaimie doesn't realise that she's the key to releasing Andrew from prison for four years. It's amazing Andrew survived between his childhood, his PTSD and then being wrongfully convicted but against the odds he does. There's a really good twist to this story that comes outbf nowhere and a suspense filled ending that had me in tears. Enjoyable read.
The book did not draw me in at first so I put it off till I needed a break from my own writing. I am one that no matter how much suspense is in the book can figure it out fast. By chapter five I had figured out who killed Kit. What I did like is the multiple point of views. I am a reader and write this way as I want to see the emotions and reasons from every point of view. Collette did not disappoint the reader of that. The reader was able to get into the mind of both Jamie and Andrew and feel what they were feeling at the time. Books that have the point of view of the killer are ones I like even better. I love to get in the mind of killers. I know I may be sick, but I have always been someone that likes to know what make things or people tick.
This book shows just how hard it is to pick up the pieces of a broken life and put them back together. Some like Jamie and Andrew are able to do it, but others like Adam isn't able to. The way Collette wrote some of the scenes with the raw emotions made this fact stand out. The one scene left me wanting to yell at the person not to give up. Yes, it seemed hopeless at the time, but they were others out there fighting for them.
Another thing I loved about this book was the use of animals. I am an animal lover and know firsthand how an animal can help you overcome things that seem hopeless.
With all this said this book was a good choice at the time and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a good book to read.
I really loved this book. What an enjoyable read. I especially enjoyed the two main characters Andrew and Jamie. I am retired military myself and I have known a lot of men both like Andrew and Adam. So as I read about the trials of Andrew and Adam, especially Andrew I was particularly moved. Some of the men I knew that went through some of these same types of trials served in Vietnam as well as Iraq and Afghanistan. We as a nation have come to be a little more understanding and empathetic to the servicemen and women who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unfortunately the servicemen and women who served in Vietnam didn't get the same understanding and empathy.
There are a lot of twists and turns throughout this book. It is also evident in the author's writing that she did her homework before writing this book especially as the court system is concerned especially when it comes to the work required to overturn a conviction. Also she has obviously has a working knowledge of the psychological and physical injuries that service people who have served in a theatre of war have suffered through.
I really did love this book and I am glad this is a book that I read over the 4th of July week. I thought it was most appropriate.
I am currently reading, "Through Winter Skies" also by this author.
First of all, the premise of this book seriously sucked me in. I love anything felon/convict/prison-related in my books/TV shows/movies (not in real-life, thanks). Prison Break was an amazing show and still wish it lasted longer. But I digress...
I was engrossed in this book from the very beginning. It sucked me in and I read it one night, losing sleep, but it was worth it. Unfortunately I did know who the killer was very early on, and I don't think you were supposed to, so that ruined a bit of the "twist" for me.
I loved Andrew. He was stoic, he was dealt a lot of bad hands, but he was respectful, chivalrous and protective. I also loved Jamie. She also dealt with a crap hand, but she was loyal and always wanting to do the right thing.
I will say while I loved the two together, I wish their relationship had developed a bit more. I don't think 20 seconds of chemistry four years ago equates a foundation for a relationship after the serious situation the characters found them in. I wish that had developed a bit more. I also wish I didn't know who the killer was so early.
I really enjoyed this book, it had one flaw "Adam". My heart went out to the abused and beatened child. I was hoping in book two he'd found peace and happiness with someone strong enough to help him. I was very sad and disappointed with his ending.
I would have also liked an epilogue, marriage, happiness, and children for Andrew and Jamie. What happened to Andrew's grandmother after Adam?
I really did enjoy this story, it was something a little different although ultimately predictable. It’s a sweet romance so no hot and steamy sex scenes but what’s written is very tasteful and nice for a change. I liked the characters and the storyline but it’s a very wordy story with mostly inner dialogue and I find that writing style a hard slog as it’s slower going.
The cover is not enticing at all. I purely read this due to a fellow book club recommendation. Fab story! Loved the characters and loved the storyline! I'd highly recommend this. The book itself lacked final proofreading, but it’s tolerable due to the great story flow...
Wonderful storyteller. Loved how it deals with the military and information. Makes you understand how vets feel and more understanding on what they go through.
I really liked the sound of the blurb and the storyline idea, and while a little slow in some places, it started out fairly well - but then it started losing momentum and lost me.
The logic and reasoning behind the main conflict didn't quite make sense to me, especially how it was revealed and wrapped up in the end.
For me personally the writing also needed a bit more work - some of the prose was too formal and stilted which was a little jarring sometimes.
This is about a man and woman who met in the bar on Jamie's last night in town before she moved to another town with her fiancee. The man hit on her and goes "bummer, you're taken" and he followed her partly home. Suddenly the next day, he was arrested for a murder that he didn't do but without Jamie's last name (she didn't tell him) and her moving away, he couldn't find her as her witness.
Now a few years later when she moved back to town to live with her brother's family due to the divorce... She watched news and learned more about Andrew's case. She realized that she had to step up and revealed that he didn't do it.
After going through the court proceedings, Andrew was free thanks to Jamie's part. They began to develop a friendship while he struggled in re-establish his relationship with his estranged brother. It did not matter because Jamie's brothers (4 of them) embraced him in the family which was amazing as they never, never approved of a guy that Jamie was dating until now - this convict who was innocent - who would have thought?
Without giving too much away, I'll stop at this. I like the book. However toward the end, the author messed up with Adam (Andrew's brother) and Andrew. For instance when it was supposed to be Adam, the atuhor wrote Andrew... Vice verse. For y'all who like the erotic aspect - you won't find it, but I like the story regardless. I might continue the series but I'm not planning on it right away.

This is a good book with a very good storyline. The characters were well developed and drew me in, however, I feel there were too many details that did not contribute to the story, making it drag along. There was unnecessary information throughout that detracted from the couple.
Andrew - a man who was severely injured in war and after recovering and returning home he is wrongly charged with a murder he knows nothing about.
Jamie - an ambitious young woman who met Andrew the night before she left town with her fiance to begin their new life. She doesn't know about the crime committed, she has already left for Nevada. Is her brief encounter with Andrew the key to proving his innocence? After she divorces she returns home about 4 years after that fateful night and learns of the injustice that has been heaped upon Andrew.
What happens when a woman is determined to set things right? Will her testimony aid in reopening his case?
Despite the slow nature of this book I still recommend it. The story is touching and as we follow Andrew and his brother, we clearly see the affect of war, the travesties witnessed there, and the continued affect it has on their damaged lives. Add in an abusive childhood and it all spells heartache, desperation, scars that will never heal, and possibly a new love and family.
Great plot, emotionally charged, buildup, strong secondary characters, solid army subplot. Falls short of a great story due to mediocre baddy subplot, and blind faith of behalf of Jamie and her family, it would have been stronger if they had shown at least understanding of how difficult it was to keep their position of unwavering faith in Andrew. I felt that they hesitated at the wrong time (of course they had to step forward, why was there debate, but once done, there may have been some doubts as to result, whether the system did justice, etc). There are some awesome emotional scenes (hug in court, Andrew and his roommate relationship). It reminded me of Barbara Delinsky's Committments Commitments in its insensity and subject matter.
I loved the story line, and I haven't really read anything like it. The characters were interesting, though a little predictable. I enjoyed the pairing of the Evans clan and Andrew's family.
I liked everything about this book except Adam, and not just because he was the bad guy, but because I couldn't figure his character out. Was he just a sadistic rapist murder, twisted because of the abuse from his childhood? Or suffering from PTSD? I just couldn't get a grip on his personality, and he didn't fit well into the story. These issue make me reluctant to rate the book four stars, but despite the problems with him, I really liked the book. I don't think I'll read the rest of the series though.
They met at a bar on the eve of her moving out of town. She was off to live with her fiancé. He was interested, but made no move to come on to her other than being a complete gentleman! He follows her home to make sure she arrives alright and that is the last they see of each other. Until one night a while later when she is watching the news about a murder that happened that night. HE is the one convicted of the crime. SHE is the one that holds the key to his freedom.
It was a REALLY good book. I can't even explain anything more than that, without giving something away! I felt bad for both of the main characters because they had so much standing in the way of their happily ever after and you wonder if they will ever overcome it.
This is an amazing story about tragedy and love. Jamie and Andrew meet in a bar. Next day Jamie moves away to get married and Andrew is arrested for murder. Jamie is the only witness. Can she save him? I loved the interaction between all the characters, enjoyed watching the relationship between Andrew and Jamie develop and grow. I cried whilst reading about Andrews childhood and then his time in Special Forces. It was so reallistic. Well written. The end was shockin (to me anyway) and heartbreaking. This is a 'must read'. I laughed and cried. I could not put this book down from Prologue to the very end. Well done Collette Scott.
This story was a heart tugging journey, which follows Andrew’s release from prison as he tries to put his life back together. Accused of murder, his only alibi is Jamie, though she was not aware of that until after his release. While it is hard to imagine she didn’t know enough details about the trial to step forward before he was convicted, I liked her strength and determination when she did find out. I liked this story, the secondary characters were a good blend, and I absolutely loved Andrew’s grandma. I look forward to reading more of this series.
