I had to read this book for my ASL class. I can't believe I've never heard of this book before. It was about a man from my home state in the USA that came over from Russia and was deaf. He and his family had a huge impact on the Deaf community and education in Wisconsin.
Not only was this an educational read but also a very enjoyable read.
As a student studying communication disorders, this was a fascinating book to read about a personal account of being deaf. However, deafness is not what makes Abe stand out so much as his admirable character. The Barash children did a wonderful job paying him homage. Additionally, my alma mater is the University of Wisconsin, so it was a neat treat to read about how it was for the Barash family growing up over time.
The author of this book is Jayne's friend Marci's mother and uncle. They invited us to their Sedar Dinner which was fascinating and motivated me to learn more about the Jewish culture.
