"Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea" is a classic science fiction novel written by Jules Verne in 1870. The novel follows the adventures of a group of men aboard the submarine Nautilus, which is captained by the mysterious and enigmatic Captain Nemo. The story begins when the Nautilus is spotted by a group of sailors who are subsequently taken captive by Captain Nemo and his crew. The main character, Professor Pierre Aronnax, is a marine biologist who is fascinated by the undersea world and joins the Nautilus crew on their travels. Over the course of the novel, Aronnax, and his companions explore the depths of the ocean and encounter a variety of creatures, including giant squids and sea monsters. What's new will they get in their mission? Throughout the novel, Verne explores themes of exploration, adventure, and the power of technology. The author also touches on the relationship between humans and the natural world, and the potential consequences of humanity's impact on the environment.
Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before people invented navigable aircraft and practical submarines and devised any means of spacecraft. He ranks behind Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie as the second most translated author of all time. People made his prominent films. People often refer to Verne alongside Herbert George Wells as the "father of science fiction."
I enjoyed this book-I love sea adventure stories--but by the time I got to the end I felt like there were too many loose ends that were never resolved. (I feel the same way after LOST episodes.)
This is the adapted version as apart of the ELT graded reader of Oxford University Press Series Dominoes. This book contains the original story in summary with activities.
This is the story of Captain Nemo and his famous submarine, the Nautilus. One day, Nemo finds three men in the cold sea. For 20,000 leagues the men live together on the Nautilus. They find a town on the sea floor, beautiful coasts and lots of gold. But they are not happy. Can they escape from Nemo’s submarine and live? 其中Nemo船長的潛水艇叫Nautilus(鸚鵡螺號)。 他們在海底發現的城市就是頂頂大名的ATLANTIS(亞特蘭提斯)。 Nemo船長是個避世的人,他的想法是:“I love the sea! It’s our only friend. People can’t make problems for us here.”由於避世,他不肯將那意外進入的三人送回陸地,他說:“You can see a lot of interesting things. But you can never go home.”因為“We don’t want stories in the newspapers about us.”。
I have read it. But some word I can not understand. I am still learn english. I can not think how a human body can survive in underwater of sea. I think the underwater is very cold. But I enjoy it
Honestly, I think it's just me but I've read Journey to the Center of the Earth and loved it so I thought I'd give 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea a try. I was disappointed. I found the concept and the imagination incredible but the execution of it very boring. It's possible that it's a sign of the times. 20,000 was written in 1870? and I'm just not able to engage that well. I'm glad I read it but I didn't enjoy it as much as Journey...
While the book is ostensibly an adaptation of Verne’s original, this follows the Disney film’s abbreviated adventure version of the story. As such, we get more seals and Ned Land and a hell of a lot of colour photographs from the production. Aimed at a younger audience, it lacks the sophistication of storytelling found in either the Verne book or the Fleischer production. As a souvenir from the 1950s, this is a wonderful piece of Disney memorabilia. For fans of the book or film, you’d be better off sticking with the source material. Nevertheless, it’s a fine companion, and that’s all any of us wants in life, right?
