Casey Snow is grounded for life... or at least until she leaves for college.

After driving her car into the side of her parents’ garage, Casey is stuck filing papers in her mom’s office during the day, and confined to her house on the weekends. Worst of all, she’s not allowed to see her favorite band, Moving Neutral—whose lead guitarist, Blake Parker, just might be the love of Casey’s life.

But with her best friend’s help, Casey comes up with a plan to sneak out of her house for the concert. And as she’s standing in line at a coffee shop near the show, everything changes. Because behind her is Blake Parker, ready to sweep her away for the best summer of her life.

I think I’m falling out with fluffy books because this didn’t do anything for me at all. If I had read this when I was younger, I would have thought it cute and romantic, but I’m reading this at my age and thinking “Well, this is every single RPF popfic that I had to slog through to get to some good stuff.” Of course, Casey’s favorite band member is cute and sensitive (he reads poetry and buys antique books!) and the lead female singer is a bitch and ugh.

And I’m sorry, Casey is a spoiled brat. I was stunned that she managed to have her dream summer without any consequence from her family. She’s self-centered, she never once worries about what her family must be going through, and when she comes back, Casey just gets to go to Columbia with her parents footing the bill and paying for anything. If I were in her shoes, I’d be working my ass off every single break afterward. Yes, her parents are strict, but I can’t sympathize with Casey at all.

The plot is boring, but seeing as Casey spends most of the time on the tour bus with the band, I gave that a bit of a pass because well, I’m pretty sure that tour buses are boring. But there really wasn’t much to Casey and the rest of the band. We don’t even get a sense of how far Casey is out of her element. And there’s three things that really bothered me:

1. My problem with a lot of music books like this is that it’s so focused on the celebrity aspect and not the music. Even if the main character isn’t a musician of some sort, you can still get a feel for what the music’s like if the book conveys it well. In this, Moving Neutral just feels like any other band who happens to have a big hit. I don’t know what kind of music they write, they play, and it really brought the book down to me.

2. The shocking revelation that Casey is a better singer than April because Casey scored a perfect on a Rock Band song. This is coming from someone who knows shit about vocal theory, and I cried major bullshit. Rock Band vocals are based on how the singer matches the original pitch of the song. If April’s a professional singer (but oh no, of course she’s not), then she would have a different pitch and range than the song requires. It’s also mentioned that the song Casey scores a perfect on is a song she’s extremely familiar with, so I’m not surprised she would get a higher score. It’s like saying I’m a great dancer because I can score 100% on certain DDR songs.

3. This is more of nitpick than a problem, but it still pissed me off: It’s mentioned that one of the band members is Elvis Costello’s grandson. It’s plausible, but my believability meter can only stretch so far.

It’s not horribly written, but the lack of sympathetic character and the trite plot twists were simply uninteresting. There are better music books out there.

I really liked this book. I wish it picked up a little sooner, and I wish Cassie would have been honest a little sooner but it was a wonderful book. The ending was perfect! Blake seemed like a really good guy and I liked that. He stuck by this thoughts and feelings and I liked that! Sophie was awesome and Jesse and April annoyed me most of the book. April was a bit*h and Jesse always sided with her!

Wishing for another book from their time at Columbia!

Casey ran away with a rock star(read a Disney rock star)from her overprotective parents. Oh,man,if my kid did this I would slap her senseless. First of all I wouldn't raised her to be this stupid. And since she got into a great college I don't think she is the type to run away when something doesn't go her way I think this book doesn't make any sense.

I freakin' LOVED this book! Blake Parker was your quintessential rockstar hottie, and it was easy to see how Casey fell for him. I loved how reading this felt like you were on tour with Moving Neutral, especially the behind the scenes band dramatics and life on the tour bus. The story seemed like it just might have ended on a cliffhanger, hopefully, and I'm definitely hoping for a sequel :)

I had been waiting for awhile, keeping my eye on this book and was so excited the day it went free. The great things about when books go free is I can check it out, see how much I like the author and if I like the book, I will be more likely to pay for another book from the same author. It is a win win for everyone. I can say with all honesty that I would definitely pay for another book by Katy Atlas.

I enjoyed the characters a lot, especially Blake. He seemed so down to earth and honest that I couldn't help but love him. The only thing that bugged me was the big lie in the book didn't seem like that big of a deal. That's a pet peeve of mine with any book though. It seems like something that would be SO easy to explain right when it happened is blown up because the lead female (or male) refuses to be honest right then.

I think the reason I liked the story line so much (which was actually very fan-fiction-ish) was because I could relate a little bit. Casey's parents are a bit over protective. She's over eighteen and still has an eleven p.m. curfew. I had parents like that. I understand the reasoning now but when I was newly eighteen? Not so much. She wanted one last summer of freedom and fun and excitement before she got serious and settled down into college. In my opinion, that is a very common feeling among kids straight of high school. Her decisions may not have been wise and they may not have been overly rational but really, not all eighteen years are ration or wise.

Katy Atlas has a wonderful writing style that flowed well for me. It was easy to read and follow and I wasn't distracted by disjointed sentences or poor grammar. Casey's voice was very genuine and easy to relate to in most circumstances. It was a quick, easy, fun read and I would recommend it. Best of all? No love triangles!

I actually enjoyed the book even though I read a review that spoiled the ending. Casey has just finished high school and is counting down the days until she starts Columbia in the Fall. Casey and her best friend Madison are huge fans of the group Moving Neutral and are excited to go to their concert a few days after graduation. A twist of fate leaves her grounded and unable to go to the concert so she sneaks off figuring that since she is grounded for the rest of the summer anyway there is not much more her parents can do. When they get to the concert Madison tries to get them backstage but that back fire and lands them kicked out of the concert. They go to a coffee shop near the concert and that is where she meets Blake Parker the lead Guitarist and Casey's "Love". Madison and her decide to pretend they have no idea who he is because they don't want to see, like huge stacker fans. A few hours together and she decides to go with them for a few shows because there is something between them they both would like to explore. Casey ends up finishing the tour with the band growing close to Sophie the drummer. After an amazing summer together, Blake finds out that she knew who he was and believes that she used him to be famous. She ends up going back home because of it and her strict parents welcome her home realizing she is an adult and responsible. It ends well even though I would have like Sophie to have made peace in the end and to have an epilogue where Blake and Casey are together making music but I guess the reader is to assume that. The book is good and I would recommend it.

“Besides, pretty girls never get carded.”
An hour later, it was clear that either I wasn’t that pretty, or pretty girls do, apparently, get carded in Cleveland.

I kind of read this book on the bus to pass the time and I wasn’t even going to rate it on Goodreads because I didn’t really read it, just sort of skimmed. It’s a horrible, ridiculous book. But it caught my attention every now and then because the author knows how to make me relate to Casey. I felt Casey’s frustration, fear, exasperation, relief, and exhilaration, I experienced her story right along with her. I started getting caught up in the suspense of wondering when Blake would find out about Casey’s lie and how he would react. There are seriously unrealistic parts to the book, like Casey going on tour with her idol after one night of acquaintance, but there are some really interesting bits too. I liked that Blake was so kind to Casey and that he wasn’t sticking his tongue down her throat every page. They have this really relaxed, slightly wishful-lusting, mainly-hugging, predominantly-friends relationship. I found this nice because Blake is like this mouth-watering rockstar.
Because of Blake’s stardom, Casey sort of just disregards everything else but him.

Blake could put out an album of dogs barking and ambulance sirens, and I’d probably still buy it.

It doesn’t seem to be a very healthy relationship but at least she recognises that. She’s not only worrying about Blake discovering the truth but just dumping her in general.

To be honest, when I think of this book I think of it like a wish fulfillment or fantasy situation. I mean, the whole randomly bumping in your favourite singer and falling in love and going on tour with him? It’s the plot of a zillion fanfics out there. It’s incredibly unlikely to happen, and yet... so much fun to read about. ‘Moving Neutral’ was predictable at times, but it definitely kept me reading.

I would have liked to have gotten more scenes of Casey and Blake falling for each other -- more getting to know Blake instead of just hearing second hand about how awesome he is. That’s my only real complaint about the book, though. I think this is one of those books that speak for themselves. You know what you're getting when you choose to read the book, and it delivers on those expectations. It’s a book that isn’t at all realistic, yet it’s completely fun. It’s like candy in a book form, if that makes sense. If you’re looking for that fun, frothy type of contemporary read then this is definitely a great book for you.

so i removed one star because:

- it kinda ended "what-the-hell-do-i-say-to-that", it was expected that he will go to Columbia, but she did lie and he got over that just because of a note(???);

- sophie was like a BFF to Casey while they were on the road and in the end they just stop communicating?!, not a word after Casey send the dress back to her;

- Casey's parents, i mean, she run away from home (she is 18, but still, not a word) and when she got back they got her everything she needs for moving to campus and there was no words about her "famous" status;

so, i guess if there were a sequel to this book that will answer all these this for me i would give it a 5+ ... b/c all in all i had a really great time reading this book :)

Give me a guy who can play the guitar and you've got me hook, line and sinker!! It may just be my biggest weakness. So yes, I loved this book! I would have given it 5 stars but I still had a few questions floating around in my head at the end so took a star off for that.

My first thought when I finished the book was "where's the sequel!" I loved the book and fell for Blake! I mean how could you not? I wish the story was a bit longer because the ending did seem a bit rushed but other then that it was a great read! <3

I finished the book, so two stars.

Casey should be handcuffed in her room and write a reflection essay on responsibility. She didn't once think about her parents, their turmoil. And she didn't once consider the possibility that Blake is not a gentleman. Bad things happen and that's why we are told repeatedly as a child not to trust any strangers. But no, Blake is her favorite singer!! so he must be pristine!! So he asked, and Casey jumped! and within two days, they fell in love! I mean, seriously people, you expect me to believe it? On top of it, she had no backbone! April was continuously being mean to her. I'm not telling her to be bitchy, but would it have hurt her to speak up once or twice? she is not the queen of the world!

And then, what was the problem with April? If she had a crush on Blake, I would have understood the pettiness. But no, she doesn't have a crush. she just can't stand Casey on principle that someone has invited her and Casey might get photographed with Blake. If she were that shallow, how is supposedly deep Blake and Sophie friends with her? because my experience says that while people don't have to be absolutely same to be friends, they need some basic grounds and you can't be friends or work so closely with somebody so shallow. Music isn't like accounting where you can just forward the previous years' figures without exchanging a single word. You need connection for it.

Now, Blake. I have so many problem with him that I have a mind just to omit this paragraph. I mean, what's the point wasting my energy? He asked Casey to go with him after first meeting and he doesn't trust girls. so why did he invite her? to have free sex for the tour? or did he just wanted some free publicity? and he put Casey on the stage in place of April. Now I don't know in which planet he (or the author) resided, but in our planet, doing something like that is a recipe for disaster. because unlike the casey-and-blake-on-magazine thing, this is a really public humiliation.

Now the concert. I have no idea if the author has ever experienced stage fright. Casey was completely uncomfortable singing in the family living room of Sophie's uncle's. And suddenly she took on a whole concert (albeit a small one, but that's by Moving Neutral's standard). What, pray tell, put on this sudden change of character?

the side characters were pretty one sided too. Sophie is another backbone less character, Jesse is weak. they were one-dimensional and not really needed in the story.

And the parents. Really, where can I find a pair like those? If I (and any of the girls/boys I know) would have done something like they would have stopped talking to me, at the least. the worst? don't even ask me. In our society the boys have a lot more freedom than girls and even they would have been given a serious punishment about it. Casey's parents just made uh-ah noise and thought she has got her heart broken and that is enough. really?

I have to give one thing though. If you don't consider the story loopholes, and crappy characters and see it as a writing to move people, yes it was good. My suggestion would be to get some beta readers who can successfully point out the discrepancies. Because, although my experience of this one was bad, I'd like to read more of her work. She can write in a way that engages the mind, otherwise I never could have finished the book.

This was a cute story about a girl who meets her favorite band and ends up going on tour with them for the summer. Casey Snow loves Moving Neutral, but she is IN love the lead guitarist, Blake Parker. After a chance meeting in a coffee shop, Blake is just as taken with Casey.

This was a cute story, it wasn't a really strong love story because there weren't a lot of meaningful, heartfelt moments. I definitely didn't feel them fall in love with each other, I mean they barley kissed. It was all very innocent in that way.

This was one of those books where everything seems to be perfect between the main couple except for one little lie that could change everything. The more time passes the worse off the lie becomes. It was kind of frustrating because I didn't see what the big deal was. It drove me nuts that Casey didn't come clean to Blake. She a million chances and after she got to know him better I think that if she worded her confession correctly Blake wouldn't have been all that mad. But the way he eventually does find out is not only embarrassing to him but also a slap in the face because of everything that had been said to him in the conversation in which it was all revealed.

I thought this book moved kind of slowly, but at the same time I couldn't put it down. I read it in one sitting because I had to know what happened. I wish there would have been some sort of epilogue or something. I would have liked to get a glimpse into Blake and Casey's life a few weeks or months later, after the last chapter. There were a few things I still wanted to know at the end, like was Sophie really that mad at her about lying and whether the band would continue. She says at the end that her favorite band broke up, but April made it sound like the band would continue with or without Blake when she was trying to get him to do the reality show. So I want to know what happened to Moving Neutral at the end. I did like how the book came full circle at the end, with their meeting in the beginning and again at the end. That was cute. It would also be fun to read the story from Blake's perspective. I found myself wondering what was going through his head a lot. If Katy Atlas rewrote the whole story from Blake's POV I would definitely buy it. I think that would be interesting. I'm especially interested in what happened after Casey left.

WARNING: IN THIS REVIEW HAS SOME SPOILERS!!!!!
I liked the book when I randomly downloaded it through my Android. But of course, I read it's back synopsis. I couldn't wait to read the book. Since the book's setting was Summer, It was a perfect read for me this summer. I read it for only a week since I worked with my mum. I began to sympathize with the story at the start and the mistakes, twists, turns and dramatic changes made it very unique. The story may be similar to other stories of fans meeting their celebrities face to face or secretly. But Casey did a new twist and turn to her story. I loved Blake, Casey, Madison, Sophie and of course, Trevor. Casey's adventure would be any girl's dream adventure if it involved their favorite celebrity. But what made me want her adventure is that Casey went to COLUMBIA. Atlas seemed to think every girl's liking or similarity. I love Atlas's Moving Neutral because she made a perception. I thought it would be about a singer or some sort who is in a state of Moving Neutral. But it was actually the band of Blake, Moving Neutral. I liked the fact that there in the story that there revealed the truth of publicity. I liked that April was jealous of Casey... The usual body or twists of stories with the Villain or Hater. I only hated that when Casey went back home she did not mourn a bit of her relationship with Blake. And instead she tried doing things to forget him more and hurt her a bit more. I liked the truce between Trevor and Casey. Trevor seems like the awesomest little brother model. I hated the fact that Casey didn't much confront her problems. But at least Katy Atlas showed what bullying, haters, real life problems and what girls are really like through the girl characters. I liked that Atlas created Casey to be really sympathized by the young girl teen readers like me. And she created a view of what probably today's young girls like me like to have such as an acceptance to Columbia University, a car(Volvo or Audi), meeting and/or having a relationship your favorite celebrity, wearing up-to-date clothes, going to all the concerts your favorite band is having, and etc. But I really liked the end that Blake went to Columbia with Casey. It was adorable and an ideal happy ending. :D

Eh, this was an OK read.
Nothing too special about it, and it's a quick read.
This is one of those books that you just breeze through, and don't really remember anything significant about it afterwards. No major conflicts or climaxes either.

I found the main character to be way too childish for her age. She's about to college, yet she decides to run away. OK, I get that you run away, but she's so irresponsible. The parents don't seem to take anything seriously either even though they make threats like cutting off college money, but no actions are really taken. Parents don't just not care about their children, and she didn't even call them... she had her friend call them. Who does that? I found the characters to be quite flat.

Eh, there were some parts that were cute, but if you think about it...it's sort of creepy. What if it wasn't a famous band member that came up to you and is like - hey, I'll pay for your coffee. Come with me on my band tour. Yeeeaaah, a lot of things could have gone wrong there, realistically. So, yeah, it definitely wasn't realistic most of the time. Even though the main character is headed towards college, I think this book is targeted for younger children.

This was one of those stories that I couldn't put down, but there were a lot of things that bothered me. Like how unbelievably selfish and immature the main character was. So what if your parents gave you a cerfew? Doesn't mean you should run away for 8 weeks without so much as an email. And how convenient that she was such a wonderful singer. Even better than the actual lead singer. I was unaware Rock Band sets the bar for excellence. I also think there were a lot of missed moments on the tour bus where we could have had more character development between Casey and the other band members. Or even just with Blake. I couldn't help but love Blake's character but I feel like he was left a little flat. Maybe I would have liked this better if it was longer and I could have had more time to grow attached to each character. My complaints aside, I will for sure be reading the next one because like I said, I could not put it down. Just because I had complaints doesn't mean it wasn't fun :)

The truth is, I have mixed emotions towards this book. Yes, it was romantic in someways, but most of the time, I was laughing, because I think the story was "surreal" in a way. Sometimes I even tear my hairs out, like, "Seriously, Casey, seriously??" Hmmm. I'm not so sure about this book. Although, yes it may be exciting, like that sort of fairytale, but a lot of thigs are missing, and was replaced by some trivial scenes.

I'm not really sure how I can review this book. Wasn't the best I think. Casey was so naive, and some of the stuff happened seems way too impossible. And Blake? seriously not wanting to sleep with Casey? and a rockstar? I dunno!!!

The only characters that I loved were Madison, Sophie, and Casey's parents-- they totally rocked. But the rest, I think it could have been improved.
Afterall, 3 stars wasn't so bad.

It's a good easy light-hearted YA novel! I read it it one night as I did find it hard to put down.

The characters are amicable and distinguished well with their characteristics and personalities. The only character I was unsure of was Brett, Casey's childhood friend who had moved to LA. Don't want to post spoilers but I just didn't get the impression he cared for her well-being as much as was put across.

It's quite predictable, as are a lot of YA romance novels but it's a fun read at the same time. I cared for what happened between Casey and Blake and if an author can make me care then it's a win in my mind.

My only issue was the ending of the book, seemed a bit too quick and I personally would have rathered it spread over a few more chapters.

I love this book. I bought the 3 books yesterday and haven't been able to put them down and finished them today. I wrote a review on the last book but thought I'd write one the first without any spoilers for people thinking of getting it I would say do it! I'm not one to buy a book or watch a film based on reviews but some are and I thought I'd give my opinion to maybe help people decide, I am now waiting (im)patiently to see if there is going to be a 4th book. This series has turned out to be one of my favourites so far, and I read a lot of romance books haha. I would really reccomend this series!

I have been searching for a hot rock & roll romance, but this was not it. In a story, it's important to feel the chemistry between characters, and in this book, I felt NONE. I also felt like the ending to each chapter was identical. I felt like it was a better fantasy than romance: running away for a summer with your favorite rock star, falling in love, and having a once in a life time performance. Every girl would love a summer like that, but if it was me, I'd rather feel the emotions in the relationship than feel the excitement of a fantasy.

This was a quick fun read.

Yes it's every girl's fantasy come true - girl meets favourite rockstar crush and falls for him. She then joins him on his road trip cross country for her last summer before college to get away from her overprotective parents. My only complaints would be that the ending was a little to quick and easy and I would have liked to have seen a little more interaction between the two main characters (Casey and Blake).

Still overall very enjoyable to read with an easy flow writing style and interesting characters.

Well, at the begining I was so exited about reading this book. It seemed like the tipical book where the lead character meets her idol, fall in love bla bla bla. everything was expected, there was not really a surprise. Like Blake was going to find out the truth eventually, i was really skeptical about the PR lady who didnt appear in the whole tour. that was a little bit strange, but i'd have blown Casey's facade.
I pretty much expected the part where Blake would get mad at her about the lying. BUT the ending?? not at all, that thing was too fairytale-ish.

Great story. I loved the whole concept, Casey running away with her favorite band and falling in love with the lead singer. There was always this tension and sense of urgency and impending unknown through the whole story that kept me glued to the pages.

One thing I thought could have added to the whole overall story, more romance. I wanted more interaction in the weeks on the bus to show how they fell for each other.

I loved the letter and him showing up at the end. Perfect.

I really loved the book. I liked the romance and the tabloids involvement, because that makes the story kind of exciting in a different way. I hated April. She was so obnoxious, Jesse was fun and Sophie was a kind of sister character, lovable, fun and easy to talk to. Blake Was a different Story. I love his ways but I would've like more fire between him and Casey. I don't know, more kisses may be. But I loved the book Anyway.

An unusual twist on the regular rock star romance story. I loved the story and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in the series.

Cassie is counting the days down until she goes to college, determined to enjoy her last summer with her best friend they get tickets to see her fave band. The last summer before college turns into something more than Cassie could have ever imagined.

A great read.

Oh, how I loved reading this book! I guess I just really liked Casey's personality. Only a couple problemos, like the ending. I loved the ending but it was a little too easy of a kiss and makeup scene. Also, what about Sophie? Can there please be a sequel that talks about Sophie, Brett and Madison? That would be awesome.
