The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
This book is called Ms.Todd Is Odd.A teacher named Ms.Todd is subbing for Ms.Daisy and the kids think she kidnapped Ms.Daisy.They think something is up with her and her going to do detective work to get the goods on her. They think she is taking over so she can be the permanent taecher. It will not be very easy, because Ms.Todd is very odd.
We started reading the books in the My Weird School series by Dan Gutman and Jim Paillot together during storytime, but our girls have been reading them independently, which is fine with me. The books are silly and somewhat redundant, but have a clever theme that is similar to the books in the Black Lagoon series by Mike Thaler.
This story focuses on a substitute teacher and the differences in the way that she teaches compared to Miss Daisy. It's a quick entertaining read, and our girls will sometimes argue over who gets to read the book first. Our girls liked this story and I'm sure we'll be finishing this series in no time.
Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!
this book speak about Ms. Daisy's supplent. Already from the first day to AJ the supplent, called Ms. Todd,is nasty. During the first days she play with the alumn. In class she always clap the hands, to make the lesson easier. AJ thought that she kidnapped Ms. Daisy. Instead finally he discovered that is the contrary.
Illustrated by Jim Paillot. I didn't expect to actually like this, but I did! It was funny and quirky and I know I would have loved it when I was a kid. Having illustrations and larger type, this seems like a great book for kids in school making the transition from beginning readers to chapter books. I'll be recommending this series.
Not really a fan of this particular story, even though I really enjoy this series
Her agenda to keep the children from playing any games with any type of competition was annoying. And, her high-pitched fake-trill voice was even more annoying.
i like the part when aj and his friends think ms todd kidnapped ms daisy. while she's writing some notes, aj and her friends chase her out the door. turns out miss daisy was just sick.
Ms. Todd Is Odd! by Dan Gutman. AJ's teacher was the best teacher in AJ's opinion that's because she never taught anything. One day AJ went to school and he always grabs stuff out of the lost and found because he says it is just free stuff. He found a shirt with a lightning bolt on it and put it on. He walked into the classroom and Andrea said nice t-shirt, it's mine. AJ took the t-shirt off and put his other one on. The principle walked in and said your teacher is sick and you will have a substitute teacher. When the substitute walked in AJ was mortified because she looked just like Andrea who is a teachers pet. During class every time the teacher turned to the board to write something AJ and his friend would start coughing for no reason they would do that until she caught them and she asked what their names were and they did not tell her their real names. Then she wrote something down on a piece of paper. After lunch and inside recess AJ he got sent to the pricipals office because he punched a kid. The principal did not yell at AJ instead he said that AJ has been moved to the gifted in talented group. AJ was not happy because that was the group Andrea was in. He decided not to tell anyone so he did not seem like a dork/nerd. His friend eventually found out because Andrea found out and he heard them talking about it. The next day came and AJ was excited for school for once because Ms. Todd was not gonna be there. But when he got to school and Ms. Todd was still there which made him mad. He and his friends started to think that Ms Todd murdered their old teacher so they asked her for hair samples and looked for clues when she denied to give them the hair samples they chased her around the classroom until she ran out screaming I quit. Then she ran out to her car, just then Miss Daisey (their old teacher) walked in and they exclaimed your not dead. She said of course not. Then AJ thought that Miss Daisey killed Ms. Todd because it was suspicious that she walked in right after Ms. Todd ran out, so he started talking about how Miss Daisey could have killed Ms Todd, but she said she did not. AJ remembered that note that Ms. Todd wrote about his behavior, so he read it. The note said that she was just writing a children's book about their class, and Andrea blamed AJ for scaring her away. I can connect to the theme because I once had a substitute teacher who was weird. I rate this book a 5 star because it was funny and really interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes humor and interesting/silly stories.
Miss Daisy is out sick, so Miss Todd is the substitute for A.J. and his classmates. A.J. is sent to Mr. Klutz's office after disrupting the class, and receives some startling news while there. The class thinks Ms. Todd is a robot, and has done away with Miss Daisy, and is out to prove it. The jokes, and puns, and the constant bickering between A.J. and Andrea is non-stop in this 12th adventure of life at Ella Mentry School where the weird only gets weirder
This is a decent early chapter book series. Each book has a bit of humor and a relatable setting and characters that make them easy for students to engage with.
Crazy, wild story with lots of laugh-out-loud situations. Beware, aspiring elementary teachers because kids do say and do the most outrageous things at that age. You have to roll with it or you'll end up like Ms. Todd.
I've been enjoying reading My weird school series upto #12. This particular book conveys bunch of negative ideas about studying, and putting effort at school. My showing kids either inherently talkented otherwise a dumbhead, like stated in the books.
In this one the students have a substitute teacher, Ms. Todd, and she's odd. Moreover, she's exactly like Andrea. She looks like Andrea and acts like Andrea, and A.J. can't seem to stop getting written up by her.
