In a world where the dead have risen and the living have nowhere to hide, two groups of survivors meet up in a town called Faith to make a stand against the walking dead, with the fate of mankind hanging on the outcome of the final conflict. "Dead Rising is a tour de force of apoclayptic survival. Hose hooks you with his characters and then reels you in with action, intrigue, and excitement. A must read for any serious fan of zombie lit." - William Todd Rose, author of Sex in the Time of Zombies
This was disappointing, but at least it was short.
A mysterious asteroid hits near Faith, Montana (at least I think it was Montana). The locals want to come take a look, but the military has already taken over the site. The black goo inside the asteroid kills one of the scientists and brings him back as a undead terror.
This book is strictly B-grade pulp. The characters are one-dimensional and they're either good guys who care about the town or salty rogues who only care about their own ambitions. Eventually attrition wears down all but the two main "good guys" who have also found love in the zombie apocalypse.
All that said, if I had found this book in high school I probably would have loved it. As is, I'm glad it was a free Kindle download.
Dead Rising is a tour de force of apocalyptic survival. After introducing us to the residents of a quaint American town, the author wastes no time setting events in motion that will bring it to its knees. And that's the key really. Hose hooks you with his characters and then reels you in with action, intrigue, and excitement. Dead Rising is a "must read" for any serious fan of zombie lit.
Being a zombie fan, I read the book. Characters are a bit simple. Quick and easy read. Disappointed with army bits, too stereotypical and equipment was just wrong Book is modern day and they still have jeeps? HMMWVs have been around for over 20 years. A bit of research would have improved the book quite a bit.
