We are really enjoying the On My Own History books. Sometimes my 6 year old finds the story a little slow, but I think they are very interesting and a good length.

This one was about Bronco Charlie and his time working on The Pony Express.

I think the afterword was more interesting than the story. Lots of pictures and interesting information on the pony express.

An engaging, well-written story with some historical facts thrown in to boot. Your beginning reader probably won't want to put this down until it's finished, so be sure to set aside a little time.
