Living in the small town of White Salmon, Washington has brought some normality to her life. But when her cheating, sometimes boyfriend, Nicu, gets involved with a group of arachneshifters, life gets a little sticky. Will she be able to save him from the web he's spun? Better Than the first! Spider Wars had me reading late into the night. Carlie's writing has always been strong but the horror elements in this book, while appropriate for a YA audience, are superb, thrilling and chilling. The character of Jess is loaded with attitude and meets each challenge with witty dialogue and flying fists. There's enough romance and fantasy to satisfy fans of both genres, but it's the cross-genre plot that really makes this one shine. Highly Recommended.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is the second novel written by Angela Carlie, but the first in The Lord of Shifters Series. In this book the story is told by Jess, who comes from a long line of immortals. She soon learns that there are more creatures out there then immortals.
This is a great read for YA and even adults. I would say mature YA due to the sexual content and some awesomely, gruesome descriptions. I found the story to be an easy read, but had enough action and funny parts to keep me interested and wanting more. Although, if you are scared of spiders beware.
I enjoyed the characters. I liked the bickering/ sexual tension between Jess and Johnnie. Also Nicu is so mysterious and i want to know what his deal is. I can't wait to see what happens to this love triangle. Also Sizma, she's confusing, therefore i want to learn her side. Lora is also a great character. Her and Jess are two peas in a pod and i want to know if their friendship is strong enough to withstand all the crap that is happening.
Overall, this is a great paranormal read. I love getting to learn about more then one paranormal creature. I would recommend this book to paranormal lovers. Also I want to say that I love the cover! Thank you Angela Carlie for the great read.

If you've read Loramendi's Story then you have already met some of the characters. Although this is supposed to be book 1 and Loramendi's story is book 2, I have read them the wrong way around. However, it still works. Nothing is told out of synch, so I guess it really doesn't matter which way round you get them.

This is a shorter book than Loramendi's and mainly focuses on Jess and Johnnie. Once I got over my aversion to the actual arachnid part of the story (yeah right!) it continued to be a good series. I still want to get the rest in this series as I really want to see what happens to all now.

Really enjoyed this book and the first/second book depending on how you read them, even though I very nearly didn't bother reading this one at all!!!

I am a huge fan of Angela Carlie's writing & this book did not disappoint. I enjoyed getting to see Jess's point of view through the events of the story which was first told from Lora's point of view. Jess's family is fascinating, including those who are not related by blood but by other bonds. The history of how they came to be immortal, the process they must follow, was intriguing and I sort of wished there was a little more history there.

Without fail, Angela has created fully realized characters who seem to live on the pages of their own volition. I really loved that they were multi-faceted & that even the villains had subtleties which Jess picked up on here and there throughout the book. Jess is snarky & full of attitude. Her inner thoughts are often very acerbic & just as often hilarious. She is completely a teenager & completely real in the moment.

Jess's relationships with both Nicu & Johnny were confusing -- and they were supposed to be! These guys pull at her for differing reasons but seemingly with just as much force at times. And while Jess may have gone back and forth over which of them she felt most attracted to at the time, it was not the focus of the story which is rightly focused on evil chicks who can turn into spiders & do some pretty nasty things. *shiver*

I felt the story meandered a little in places, but that could have been because Jess was only going through the motions for parts of the story due to things she had experienced. There was quite a bit of hot & heavy sensuality & some kind of gross descriptions of violence & injury laced throughout the story which I don't personally mind too much but I would recommend this book to older teens & true young adults.

All in all, I would definitely say that anyone who enjoys paranormal, shape-shifty goodness should pick this one up & if you haven't read Loramendi's Story (the first book in the Lords of Shifters series) -- what are you waiting for? Get that one too!

Review first published on my blog, Pieces of Whimsy

I haven't read many paranormal books about shifters or immortals so I was interested to see what it would be like.

I thought this book had a lot of good elements but there were some parts I wasn't too keen on. Some of the characters rubbed me up the wrong way but it was very interesting and some of the different plot twists were great!

Spiders are definitely not my favourite creatures and reading about their creepy-crawliness is not usually something I'd like but I quite liked them in this story. They really added to the creepy atmosphere.

As evil as it is to say this, I enjoyed the brutality of the book. It wasn't light and fluffy, trying to hide from dark, scary subjects. Spider Wars embraced the darkness and wasn't afraid to delve into the nitty-gritty of war. It weaved through the pieces of light in a twisted, creepy battle and I loved that!

Unfortunately I didn't feel a very strong connection to the main character. In some places I was cheering her on and in others it felt like the only reason I wanted her to succeed was because she was the good guy. I started to feel a stronger connection in the second half of the book though which made the book a heap more enjoyable. Lora was my favourite character and so I want to check out Loramendi's Story to learn more about her and Chance!

The description was good and I was left with a lot of questions (but not too many) so that there's a good pull to read the rest of the series. I liked the idea of the story but felt it was a bit too complicated in some respects. Though it wasn't the best book I'd ever read I did enjoy it and I'd recommend it to any fans of Angela Carlie or paranormal lovers.

Poor Jess, if only she would listen for once, she would know what was going on.
Jess is a typical 17 year old girl, at least she is until she completes the ceremony that will grant her eteranal life. Spending summer holidays with her grandma Jess in introdcuced to three girls, that just happen to be spider-shifters. Throughout the story we are given snippets of a larger story going on though seeing it all through Jess's eyes we don't see too much seeing as she is oblivious to anything else but her own issues. She is a rough girl who can hold her own and gives as good as she gets.
This story runs along-side the first in the series and gives another perspective on the going-ons, which is an interesting way of writing a series and gives the reader a much better understanding (I think anyway) of what is actually taking place.
The story is pretty fast paced and was incredibly difficult to put down once I started reading it.

I purchased this as an free ebook from Amazon.

This is the first book in the Lords of Shifters series written by author Angela Carlie.

Wow. What a great read. Not at all what I thought the story would be. I found the spider descriptions to be creepy but that's just me and my aversion to spiders.

Not a big fan of the character Simza I found her to be fickle with her relationships with friends. Jess and her love life as well is she interested in Nicu or is she interested in Johnnie?

Looking forward to reading book 2 Loramendi's Story.

My arm snapped out of the socket and elongated. Holding my breath, I watched it double in length. My left arm then followed suit. It stretched like taffy. A loud high pitched scream pierced my ear drums. I pulled my wobbly, rubber-band like arms to cover them, to keep the sound out, but I had no hands, only stubs. What the— Blackness.

After getting over my squeamishness (I loathe spiders) I really got into the story; eager to find out what was going on. Even though Jess kept getting on my nerves the plot of the story really moved this forward. I found the immortals and how they became immortal fascinating and I hope there is more in the other books.

Overall I enjoyed this title and will be grabbing the others to see where the story goes.

Spider Wars is a gripping story that had me laughing and on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened next.

You don't need to read the first Lord of The Shifters novel to read this one, but after reading this story you won't be able to get enough of Angela Carlie!

Spider Wars (Lords of Shifters) - Okay so anyone that knows me knows spiders are not my thing, anyway with that said if you can overlook all the spiders this is a great paranormal read. Loved the characters and can not wait to read the next one. Thank you Angela for a great read.
