About the author

Abbas Beydoun was born in southern Lebanon in 1945. He studied Arabic Literature at the Lebanese University in Beirut and Islamic Studies at the Sorbonne. Following his return from France he worked as culture section editor for various Lebanese newspapers. Beydoun is considered one of the most significant contemporary Arabic poets and has been a trailblazer for the younger generation. His lyric oeuvre, which comprises nine volumes, is marked by plain, minimal language and by complex and many-layered images and metaphors. Beydoun most recently published his first novel, »Tahlil damm« (2002; t: Blood test). He has worked as Feuilleton Editor of the Lebanese daily »as-Safir« since 1997.

ليس أمامي الا ان أنحاز للشاعر الذي برّر كل حماقات سعيي في العام الماضي بجملة قصيرة : " أردت لفكرة واحدة ان تعيش " (:

ربما طالعته في وقت غير مناسب !
اللغة الجميلة لم تشفع للكآبة المرتسمة مع كل سطر
اظن ان الكاتب كتبه وهو يمر بحالة خاصة من الحزن .. تفكرا بالموت والفقد

اردت به وانا العائدة قريبا للشعر اخذ استراحة من كتب فكرية دسمة
لكنه ادخلني لحالة مزاجية غريبة
