** Should Read as 4.5 STARS!**

Read this book in 2006, and its the 3rd part of the series featuring John Caspasian.

Back with the Gurkhas as Quartermaster, John Caspasian finds himself now in Egypt, and only when he's asked to accompany a group of British archaeologists to upper Egypt will it look inviting especially when a French expedition is joining them, with in their midst his former comrade from World War I trenches, Captain Paul Béranger of the Foreign Legion and the beautiful Michele Simonin.

What is to follow is an action-packed adventure where intrigue and murder go hand in hand, all in an attempt to get to the treasures of a Pharaoh's tomb, and also where the local tribes of Egypt will fight for their freedom, land and their treasure, and where the heat and desert will also be an enemy that will take its toll on various people.

Highly recommended, for this is another great addition to this series, and that's why I like to call this volume: "A Very Enjoyable Egypt Expedition"!

Captain John Caspasian is back, back with his Ghurka regiment that is, which has been stationed in Cairo. Unfortunately due to him being sent away on his detached adventures (see The Viceroy’s Captain and The General’s Envoy ) there is no rifle company in need of a commander and he finds himself appointed Quartermaster.

To the annoyance of his Colonel he’s requested to take a military escort for an archaeological expedition, for which he’s given a section of misfits and malcontents. Of course there’s attacks from tribal Arabs in the area, but also a conspiracy aimed at the heart of British power in Egypt...

Anyway, there’s some adventures, Caspasian has a bit of romance again, and there’s some brief explanation of how Ghurka regiments work from the inside, in practice, rather than in theory.

Read This: For more 1920s adventure fiction, with less of the nonsense and racism of actual 1920s adventure fiction.
Don’t Read This: If the fate of the Suez Canal interests you not at all.
