If you are thinking about taking an Allagash canoe trip then The Allagash Guide is for you. You will find information about what to take, how much time you will need, where to start, what to do about your vehicle, campsites and much, much more. You will start your first trip with information that would take years to accumulate on your own. The equipment and food lists in the book are extensive and will allow you to make up your own lists with the confidence that nothing needed will be left behind. The lists evolved over many years and will cover a variety of tripping situations. This book, along with Gil’s book Allagash, will make you an Allagash expert the first time out.
This is a clear and informative guide for anyone planning to paddle the Allagash River. It includes a description of the waterway and campsites, itinerary plans, gear and food lists, what to expect, recipes, and plenty of resources for additional information. Though it was last updated 7 years ago, there is even contact info to reach the author for further questions. So helpful!
I was on an Allagash trip in 2011 and now I am planning one for 2018. This book takes away a lot of my fears and answers all my questions. I am bringing some inexperienced canoeists and The Allagash Guide will bring reassurance to those that are going as well as those loved ones that are staying behind.
Planning a trip up the Allagash this summer and this book gave me all the information that I need/answered all the questions that I had. If you are also planning a trip definitely grab a copy.
Read this twice before tackling 7 days on the Allagash with Christopher, then used it as a reference throughout to choose campsites and plan our days. Outstanding field guide for anyone thinking of this wonder-full trip through the North Maine Woods!
