I loved reading this book. Was it the greatest written book? Probably not, I rated it 4 stars not 5. Either way though, it's inspirational and lets the reader into the life of someone in the NBA who is viewed as 'different' because of his physical size but Muggsy really is the epitome of "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog"

I loved learning about Muggsby Bogues in this autobiography. I just happened to Google him one day having seen him in Space Jam, wondered if he had a book and found this one at the library.

His story as the shortest player in the NBA at only 5 feet 3 inches is inspiring, and illustrates what hard work and going for one's dreams can do.

Understandably this book does have a lot of basketball. I love basketball, but even I found myself skimming some parts that dragged a bit when it got into details about many different games.

Nonetheless, he seems like a great guy and an excellent role model, and I enjoyed the book.

I do wish that there were a shorter, kid friendly version of a book about Muggsby because he has some really great lessons and advice that kids would get a lot out of. I folded a few pages as I read with words of wisdom that I loved...

(On not being played in games or not doing well)"Things are not going to go well for you all the time, and you have to accept that when they aren't going well. It keeps the other guys going, and it brings out the character in you. It's called being professional."

"We all have dreams, big dreams and small dreams, even dreams that we don't think are realistic. But you never know until you try...I say, Take a chance. If you fail, that's all right. Success comes with failure. Everyone who became successful at some time or another has failed. I have certainly had my failures, my disappointments. That's when you really appreciate the success. You know what it takes to get there and sustain it."

"If I could tell any kids reading this one thing, it would be this: If you hear someone giving you good advice, please follow it! People are trying to tell you things they've already experienced. You may think you have to find out for yourself, but you don't. That's why the are giving you that advice - so you don't have to learn the hard way....Be prepared to to accept what these people are giving you whether it's a parent, a teacher, a relative, a friend, a coach or even someone like me."

I found this book interesting and learn more about Tyrone Bogues. It was nice to read about his life and perspectives as a 5’3 professional basketball player. I really enjoyed his chapter about the time he played on the World Championship team.

Muggsy Bogues has always been one of my absolute favorite basketball players, not just because of his diminutive size and monstrous heart, but because he has refused to bow to the naysayers his whole life. This book is a great look not the man himself.

I read In the Lands of Giants by Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues & David Levine. Tyrone is still the smallest player ever to play in the NBA. Tyrone is only 5’3. There is only a handful of players under 5’9 most players are at least 5’10 and over.
Since Tyrone is below the average player height it gives him some advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is he can shoot a lot better and he can get into small places. Some of the disadvantages she can’t grab rebounds and he can’t block shots. That makes it really hard on him.
Tyrone’s teams he played on were all exceptional. Tyrone always was on the starting lineup he always proved himself. Overtime he won 4 championships.

For an adult, this book is a quick read. I am hoping that it will have appeal to the boys in my Fourth grade class. Muggsy Bogues acheived great success in the NBA despite being only 5 feet 3 inches tall. He was a great face for the Charlotte Hornets in the 1990's, and continues to be a beloved citizen in Charlotte. His story is about believing in yourself, having a positive attitude, making the most of opportunities, and overcoming perceived obstacles.
