Andrew Reid reveals how the book of Daniel explains much about the person of Jesus and the nature of his work. Here we meet the Kingdom of God, the one like a Son of Man, the Saints of the Most High and the Abomination of Desolation.
Andrew Reid has a rich background in ministry, having been national director of the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students, chaplain at Macquarie University in Sydney, senior minister of St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Shenton Park, Western Australia, church planter at Curtin Community Church, and lecturer in Old Testament at Ridley College, Melbourne. He is currently lead pastor at Holy Trinity Doncaster in Melbourne.
This is a very easy to read book, giving the big picture of Daniel. I remember reading it many years ago and finding it very useful. This time around, I wish there was some more commentary on the little details - the things you turn to a commentary for. However, so long as you understand the role of the book, this is good.
This is a wonderfully written, informative and inspiring book. It opens up the complex and mysterious book of Daniel with wisdom and application. The study sections make good structure for Bible studies. The only concern that I have is in the final chapter where Andrew Reid postulates that Jesus was inspired and influenced by the book of Daniel whereas I see Jesus as a fulfillment of Daniel, inspired by the Holy Spirit. All in all though, a thoroughly helpful, educational and inspirational book.
