This is a TERRIBLY written book... not something I'd want to read if I was still on the fence of veganism. I agree w/ a lot of the concepts she attempts to explain, but most of the time she never fully gets there. Clements half-asses a lot of her main points by suggesting further research, reading, and recipes can be sought elsewhere. It's like a vegan overview... and the recipes at the end aren't very appetizing since they seem to use a lot of the same ingredients. To be fair, veganism has come a long way since this book was published (1985) and it's amazing to see how long others have been discussing the reality of free range eggs, the meat and dairy myth, unnecessary animal abuse, etc. but I think reads like Eric Schlosser's "Fast Food Nation" and Jonathan Safran Foer's "Eating Animals" had much greater influences on my outlook overall because of their in depth-research and anecdotal segments.
