A reviewer described Maurice Roberts' earlier book The Thought of God as 'a contemporary work with the depth of the classics which speaks across denominational and cultural lines'. His new book has the same classic quality and universal Christian appeal. The theme is the Christian life as a high and glorious calling, with present enjoyment, duties and conflicts, leading to the unutterable glory and holiness of the world to come. Readers will glimpse afresh the beauty and majesty of God and the priceless privilege of being called to an unending fellowship with him.
Everything about this little book is excellent: style, content, organizing structure, usefulness. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to refresh and deepen their faith in God the Lover of our souls.
I read Mr. Roberts other book "The Thought of God" and found it one of the most helpful books I have ever read and can now say the same for "The Christian's High Calling." I found it a spiritually stirring book, encouraging me not to be content with the status quo but to seek for a closer walk with God. I almost never read a book a second time, but I think this will be one I read several times.
I will say the last chapter is strange, I'm not sure what to make of it, but the rest of the book I found exceptionally spiritually uplifting and profitable.
A very good book from BOT, one that I will recommend as a good introduction to current Banner writings. A collection of short essays, the writings show the depth and breadth of the writer, as he pours out his deep understanding of Scriptures. Chapters 13 and 14 were high points for me.
