The second of seven brand new 39 Clues stories, leading up to one explosive reveal.
Think you know what happened at Grace Cahill's funeral? Think again. This top secret report reveals what REALLY occurred on that fateful day. Follow Ian and Natalie Kabra as they travel to Attleboro and discuss their strategy. Discover what the Holts were doing before they started the fire. And learn shocking information about a special guest none of the Cahills knew anything about . . .
I love this! It revealed so many things/secrets! The vague, fuzzy pictures finally became clearer, fitting its own pieces to the jigsaw puzzles! Now I know why Astrid Rosenbloom, the mother of Jake and Atticus, convinced Atticus to befriend Dan, how the Rosenblooms can help Amy and Dan and many others! This is also in the POVs of Ian, Jonah, Astrid Rosenbloom and Hamilton on the funeral and the burning of the mansion. I was laughing so hard the reason why the Kabras are quite late on the funeral! It's because of . Hahaha! It reminded me of 50 First Dates how that cow caused accident! It was so funny that Natalie even threatened the poor animal! As if the cow could understand her! But in the end, they finally passed when Gilbert, their driver pushed the cow out of the way. It was also said on Ian's POV how the Holt twins hanged Dan upside down, and . I know that it's nothing to be too excited about. On Jonah's POV, he just explained how much he love crowds, that he was a hip hop star since he was 12 years old and many others. And that almost everyone was keeping an eye on Amy and Dan for they were Grace's favorites and everything. The POV of Professor Astrid Rosenbloom was very interesting. It explained almost everything. Hamilton's POV was the third interesting! Gosh, it made me dislike Eisenhower more! It was his fault! DX But still, I'm glad that Hamilton was the smartest of all of them to even think of the library for that's where they can find the clue! Not on the portraits or the china room! And Ham was the only one who have a conscience.
I can't believe the Holt's set Grace's mansion on fire!
I never realized Astrid Rosenbloom and Grave Cahill had that close of a relationship by the end of Grace's life. Where did that research go? And who was the Vesper pretending to be Ingrid?
This one focuses on Grace's funeral. We see it through the eyes of a few family members and Astrid Rosenbloom who was apparently much more involved much earlier than the books led us to believe. I also liked the ending where Hamillton gets an order from his father that he should burn the place down- he does so alongside his sisters but he also makes sure that everyone survives and gets out alive going against his father's orders. He also saves someone who is a Vesper imposter - but I wasn't a huge fan of the cliff hanger we got. Also Ian and Natalie being stuck on the road getting to the funeral because cows are all over the road and them getting snottily frustrated made me laugh way harder than it should have. I loved all of the characters who have the POV in this book because they are all so different and unique and I love that they slowly grow and change throughout the rest of the books.
So many perspectives in this story! We get to see another perspective of the funeral and will reading. We get to know astrid a little bit (still don’t learn much about guardians). And we watch hamilton realize his father is not a very nice guy
- Ian and Natalie going to grace’s funeral - Introduction to the other cahills - Astrid rosenbloom attended the funeral - Astrid got an invite to the will reading’ - Grace didn’t want astrid to join the Clue hunt. Just to watch who decides - Astrid knows about the vespers and guardians - A vespers disguised themselves as ingrid to be at the will reading and stole her necklace - Holts being stupid while looking for the first clue - Hamilton set the fire in graces mansion - He tries to get everyone out while the rest of the family makes the fire bigger - Did hamilton rescue the imposter?? She had the necklace

This snippet shows Grace's funeral from the point of view of the rest of the family. I enjoyed the insight into the rest of the Cahill family. Hamilton Holt is still the best family member besides Amy and Dan - he has a conscience. And frankly in this family that's a damn miracle. I'm curious to see how Astrid Rosenbloom fits into the story. 3 stars.
That funeral did sound like a circus. It was nice to see more about Astrid. I think the Vesper's part in this story was a bit much but....again they are making more links between the stories.
Gostei de ver as coisas pelos olhos da Astrid e socorro, como todo mundo é insuportável nesse começo. Ainda bem que todos tiveram um ótimo desenvolvimento ao longo dos livros
The funeral of Grace Cahill has begun and relatives from all over the world have gathered. But does the funeral include some uninvited guests? And if so just how much danger are Grace’s relatives actually in?
While this story includes a very small amount of actually action in the last couple pages, for a 39 Clues novel its 30 pages of dry reading. Most of the story is entering the thoughts of different clue hunt participants, understanding what they were thinking as they watched Grace Cahill being lowered into the ground. The story has no educational value, little action and the only thing it adds to the set up is creating more of a connection for characters we’ll meet in the Cahills vs. Vespers series. On top of this things are just off in the story. For one I could have sworn Dan had brown hair, now he’s blond. And I thought the fire was described as an accident initially not deliberate in the original series?
Characterization wise this book seemed beyond off for the characters we’ve come to know so well throughout the series. Jonah was self centered, but he wasn’t a Lucian and his think patterns were always more laid back than what they’re described as here. Eisenhower always puts his family first and he showed a lot more respect for his son in the series than he shows here. For a character who’s never had respect, remembering to give it to his children would be important to him. And thought Ian was close he wasn’t right either. Ian definitely had some feelings for Amy during the Clue Hunt, he’s just ingrained never to put emotion before duty. For that to occur there’s no way he would think of her as basically ugly. Ian’s too shallow to change his mind about how people look. I’ll give you that at this point he doesn’t respect Amy or Dan, but calling her mangy doesn’t fit with the characterizations already established. Not to mention I remember Ian and Natalie insulting Dan and Amy on the walkway in book one and we’re still with Ian when that should have occurred in this novella, but it didn’t. Astrid however, a character we’re just meeting in the series, is well developed. She can’t be contradictory because before now she’s never been more than a name and that name has only been mentioned in the Rapid Fire Series. She gets mentioned in the Cahills vs Vespers series too, but not in too much detail.
Overall if you have the time they story is worth reading just for the information given about Astrid Rosenbloom, who I can’t help but picture as the chick on Fringe and since no physical description of her is given I guess I’m allowed to. But if it doesn’t fit into your schedule, this 39 Clues installment is skippable.
This second book in the 39 Clues Rapid Fire Story focuses around the time before, during, and after Grace Cahill's funeral. It is told alternately from different family members' perspectives. It gives us a look at The Holts, Ian and Natalie Kabra and Jonah Wizard as they embark on the quest for the 39 clues. It also gives up deeper insight into William McIntyre, Grace's lawyer and executor and we meet Professor Astrid Rosenbloom, whose family belonged to a group called Guardians who have spent centuries fighting the Vespers.
This was a great short story, bringing together pieces we knew and new information about some of the members of the Cahill family. It was a quick read at just under 60 pages. There was not nearly as much action as book 1 but it gives us great insight into the family, the hunt for the 39 clues and things yet to come.
I love the original 39 Clues books, and have on my short list to read the second series The Cahills vs. Vespers, but this short series released between December 25th and December 31st 2011 really caught my attention. 7 Days 7 Short Stories each give us part of a clue and more background information on some of the characters from the books. If the other 5 are as good as the first two, they will be more than worth the price of $0.99 each.

I loved this book! It reminded me of characters I'd forgotten about, how things got set in motion, and little details that will make the re-reading of the first series more exciting! AND ASTRID ROSSENBLOOM MENTIONING ATTICUS! OMG THAT WAS AWESOME! I love Ian and Natalie so much. They are such jerks, but I love them. And Hamelton and his family! I hated them (not Ham, but thr rest of his family) with a passion reading through the first time, but it wad good to see them. It was great to read a 39 clues book with everyone in character before the hunt. I just wish the authors let them stay in character as the books progressed in the second series.
2020: 3 stars. It was far too disjointed to feel like a true story. There were fragments that were thrown into the mix, when the important character was Astrid, and everything else was just a distraction really. It was interesting I suppose to see a more flushed out version of events from the moment the hunt began, but I kind of wish Jonah's part and Ian and Natalie's part was after the hunt began as well, instead of re-hashing a funeral from the perspective of people that didn't care that Grace was dead.
Excellent tie-ins that help make the 1st part of the 39 Clues series connect with the Cahills vs Vespers series. It explains some relationships that were talked about in the series but never really detailed. Also explains the fire from 39 Clues book 1. I love getting this sort of information and being able to say, "Oh...now I understand!" Not to mention that I think it's awesome that they mentioned LeBron James as being a Cahill! NBA champion and a Cahill too! Hehehe!
I'm disappointed to learn that Hamilton (and his family) was the source of Grace's mansion burning down. And I wonder how Astrid ended up being the only Guardian left. Did the Vespers kill off all the others?

I was devastated when I read that the Rapid Fire books would be ebooks because I didn't have an ereader at the time. The first thing I did when I bought my Kindle was buy these books too. I love them!
I loved this book. I think writing this series was a really good idea because it is so good. I really couldn't put my kindle down when I was reading this. I cannot wait to read the rest of the Rapid Fire series.
It's the day of Grace's funeral, written in Ian's, Astrid Rosenbloom's and of course, Hamiltons. You get to find out how the mansion burned down and a few more secrets are uncovered!
So, that was the whole story about the fire in Grace's mansion...I feel really bad for Hamilton, he's torn between his family loyalty and his own morality...tough choice to make for a teenager.
